We could do something like that with house animals like cats or dogs.
Another possibilty for a scenario with animals could be a ranger for an national park or other nature preserve who is visited by someone who doesn't really like to be out in the wilderness or at least not how to behave there. Like some teenage neverdowell who has to do community work there. Or maybe an relative. Could also be the apprentice of the ranger.

Never had animals of my own and my grandfather took care of the families cat when we went on vacation or something.

With animals, bording means to send the animal to someone who will look after it until the owner returns. Since I have a horse and a cat, we send them to people who will take care of them until we return from a trip.

We recently did a family trip to relatives in a southern state, so we sent Joy, my cat, to a place that boards dogs and cats. And then we sent our horse, Eice, to a friend of my moms' who breeds and boards horses.

Some people send the animal to be boarded at the vet, but most of the time, that's not a good idea.

What is a "boarder" you used it jesterday and I only know it as a nautical phrase for someone who boards an enemy ship (English is not my first language after all)
