I see. I think I could try it as a short RP in a spanker role, as father and/or mother-in-law.
As I see it, it can be either:

1) Sarah is gettng spanked simply for mouthing off before, as her parents were preparing for their visit; maybe at the dinner they had a conversation about upbringing of the teenager or something.
2) Somehow her parents know about what Sarah did then they were way (maybe she confeesses by herself, being now ashamed for her actions) and punish her for that.
3) most unlikely, but just to tell you all my ideas - the parets here the noise of her party with goblins in the very end of the movie and are displeased with this.
