I don't mind whatever gender you play for a trainer, but I'd like it alot better if you played a boy. For the Pokemon you play, I have no preference regarding the gender.
Starting with capturing them sounds like a great idea! I don't really like the idea of punishing the little ones for not wanting to be captured, though. Resisting capture is pretty normal; it's not a real capture if there's no battle. What do you think about having the trainers and Pokebabies bond or get to know each other a little first? Then we could each come up with fun ideas for discipline scenarios for our Pokebabies.
