(Actually was a bunk called the vultures at my camp.)
While the 10 to 12-year-olds fought Skyla over their bunk's morbid name, Lucy blew her whistle to end the strife. "Last up, 13 to 15-year-old girls. File forward, please!" 14-year-old Hilda pried Hera from her back and set her on the ground with the younger kids before joining her age group. 13-year-old Mei Chen and 13-year-old Serena Beaumont also stepped forward, as did several others. "I'm Lucy, and I'll be your counselor this summer," Lucy announced. "Our group is called the Sea Hawks... and no, I didn't come up with it, so if you don't like it, there's nothing I can do about it." |
"Hi, Lucy." Daisy scooped her tiny sister up to hide her blush behind her huge head. "What will we be doing first?"
|
“Let me go, Daisy. I’m supposed to go with my own bunk... and I’m hungry again!”
Lucy couldn’t help but crack a small smile at Misty’s antics. “Go ask Elesa for a granola bar. Right now, we’ll visiting our cabins and unpacking our luggage. Misty, you’re in the cabin closest to the mess hall. We’re out by the river.” |
Daisy led her sister past Jamie, who was still screaming and yelling her desire for a different camp counselor. Though she loved her sisters, she was always thankful not to have any others.
"Did you hear that, Misty? We're by the river! And look - it's beautiful. And you're finally old enough to swim in the lake, too." |
(The 6-9 kids and 13-15 kids are probably in different cabins, but they can all be in close proximity to the river. :))
“This way, everyone,” Lucy said, leading them down a forest trail. After a minute of walking, they reached the oldest girls’ cabin. “Here we are. Let’s get inside and get unpacked.” |
Corrin got to work unpacking. Daisy didnt bother with unpacking, though, but perched on top of her luggage and reread the last text her mother had sent her. She hugged the phone to her chest, then s ent several heart emoticons in response, along with a photo of Misty.
|
"Once everyone's settled, we're going to join the other campers and counselors and have a quick meeting," Lucy said. "Just in the interest of getting to know one another."
|
Corrin took her little sister by the hand. She noticed Charity, Kiyo's little sister, and stifled a groan.
"Okay, look, berryhead. Remember what you promised Mommy and Mama. No fighting with anyone, and no playing pranks. Got it?" |
"But I don't get it, Cory. Out of all the camps in the country, Charity just HAD to come to this one! And you know she only did it to copy me!" Verity groaned. "It was just supposed to be me, and Astrid, and Leaf. She isn't supposed to be here!"
|
Corrin plucked her sister upside the head. "She can come if she wants to, so behave, Verity! Mommy will never let me take you anywhere if you get in huge trouble here!"
