John looked at the man as he pushed a handkerchief into his hand and he smiled a wobbly smile. "Thanks sir...." he said softly and then dabbed at his eyes gently and wished the tears would stop already, "Guess I'm not much of a man huh?" he asked and then nodded his head at the mention of going to apologize to the crew a bit later on. "Well...I make most people hate me, so I had to be sure..." he answered, happy to hear that the man didn't hate him....yet anyway. "I'm sorry....I really am."

Charles didn't prepare himself for that and he frowned, pulling up the young man's trousers and boxers before then lifting him up and into his arms for a hug. "Hey...hey...." he said gently and wiped away the young man's tears, "Canton, buddy, I wouldn't have spanked you if I was going to fire you. I'm not going to fire you and do you know why? Because I'm not going to give up on you, you need this guidance." he explained, rubbing his back. "Now look at me." he said, tone gentle. "It's over now, and I forgive you, there's a clean slate between you and me."

(Wow, for a a, Doctor Who fan, you're not that big a fan of the companions are you?! XD I'm the same, Donna was the best and omg I love Jack. I really don't like Amy because she should have treated Rory better. Omg the first weeping angels episode was terrifying!)

Christian frowned at this, "John... what do you mean by that? Getting a spanking doesn't make you any less of a 'man', whatever you think makes a man. It shows that you're willing to learn from your mistakes and that is commendable, John," the frown only deepened as John continued to talk, "Who hates you?" He asked, softly, "I certainly don't. And neither does Canton by the looks of it. Who would hate somebody like you?"

Canton didn't expect to be pulled into a hug, but he didn't complain. He flung his arms around Charles' neck, crying hard Into his shoulder. He had never thought it would feel so good to be held. He couldn't remember the last time somebody had actually just held him. "R-really?" Canton asked, hiccuping, staring at Charles with round tear filled eyes, "y-you're not mad at me any more?"

( lol noooo XDD I prefer mah men XD DT, CE, MS, Jack! XDDDD just yus! XD most companions annoy me because they all wanted to be with the Doctor XD except Donna XD and I know, so damn scary O___O )

"I meant....cause I cried...I always cry...I can't help it I'm just...emotional." John answered and then sniffed sadly at the next question, "My Mom....because I joined the Academy instead of sticking at this job I hated.....my Dad, because he left when I was four, just most of my family because I'm weak and they keep telling me to man-up." John explained and laid his head on Christian's shoulder. "I've never...been comforted before..." he whispered and wrapped his arms around the man, "And you're so nice to me...." he added sniffing again. "You don't have t be...."

Charles returned the hug, wrapping his arms around the young man warmly, he was just so adorable! "Of course really, I wouldn't lie to you, pal." he answered, wiping away at more of the young man's tears. "I may seem like a big bully, but I do care about you and I just want to see you prosper in this work force." he assured, running his hand through the younger male's soft hair. "I'm not mad, it's alright, you're forgiven which means I'm not mad and you're still my little buddy." he chuckled. "And I want you to know that I'm always gonna be here for you, if you ever want to talk or just hang out, or even if you just need a hug, I'm here for you pal, don't forget that."

(I know, I feel the same way. Oh jesus, I'm off to bed. The birds have started singing! XD)

Christian frowned, his grip on John tightening. That was no family, telling a child to 'man-up' and bottle up all his emotions. "John, look at me," he said, seriously, tilting the boys chin so their eyes met, "You aren't weak for showing your emotions. The ones that hide them and ignore them are the ones with problems. But you embrace them, which is a very good. And it doesn't make you any less of a man. I know I don't have to be nice to you, but I am because I want to. I want to look after you and I want to make sure you're happy. Your family were wrong, John. You're a wonderful boy. They just can't see that."

"I'm... I'm your..." Canton couldn't quite deal with this. From such a young age, he had been on his own. No one to miss him, to care about him. And now this man was offering all of that, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, as if he had been meant for it all along. Canton was sure his heart would burst with pure happiness, but his reaction showed otherwise. It just made him cry harder. "Y-you mean... you'll l-look after me? N-no one's ever looked after me before!" Canton wailed, "I-I've never been anyones b-buddy before!"

( haha yeah almost 4:00am XD think I'll hit the hay too XD and awww omg Christian is the PERFECT spanker, and Canton....OMG I wanna huggle him to death! XDDD )

The young man turned his watery green gaze upward to look at Christian and he sniffed when there eyes met, green to grey. He listened to what the man was saying and his mouth fell open a little, no one had ever said something so kind to him before and he was just overrun by current emotion, he didn't know whether to cry or to jump up and down for joy. He flung himself at Christian and wrapped his arms around him tightly, feeling secure there. "Thank you for being so nice to me General Vancouver!" he said, starting to cry again, "P-Promise.....you wont....wont disappear....." he asked, swallowing tightly and turning teary green eyes up at him.

"Oh, you've been hurt in the past haven't you kiddo?" Charles asked, his heart breaking for the young man and judging by how he wailed and was so surprised that someone cared about him made him come to the conclusion that no one had really been there for him as a child. "I will look after you, I care about you and you mean a lot to me now." he answered, nuzzling the wet cheek gently with his own. He was very quickly growing fond of Canton and he was digging himself a way into his heart. "Well you're my buddy, and everything's going to be alright, I'm going to be here for you pal, don't you worry." he explained giving the young man a smile.

(Same with yours, Charles is lovely and John is adorable omguuuurd!)

Charles smiled, though inside he was hurting terribly for this poor, undercared boy, "You don't have to thank me, John. It's the truth," he said simply, before kissing John's cheek, "I will always stay with you. I will never leave you of my own volition, I promise you that."

Canton howled into Charles' chest, clinging to him, his body shaking and shuddering with sobs. He felt like his heart would burst. Somebody was going to care for him now? It had been just him for so long... And he was going to take care of him, just like that. He didn't understand, "W-why me?" He choked, "I'm not.... special."

The young brunette smiled a little up at his new handler and nodded his head, "I do....no one has ever cared about me before..." he answered and smiled a little more at the kiss. Hearing Christian's promise made John throw his arms around the man even tighter and he nuzzled his head against the man's chest. "Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you....." he repeated, tears building again.

Charles continued to hold the broken young man close, rubbing his back and rocking him just a little bit in his arms. "Because the day I saw you, I could tell....you were meant to be at my side, and I was meant to guide you." he answered, kissing his forehead gently. "You are special, and I wont have you put yourself down, you are very special and very special to me." Having said that he stood and continued to hug the young man. "All new recruits to this ship were meant to have listened to the tour woman...because they were being assigned their quarters." he chuckled a little, "It's late, and I think my special little buddy needs some sleep, I'll come and get you in the morning." he gave him a confirming nod and then gestured to the bed.

Christian chuckled at this, a grin splitting his face. "I already told you, you don't need to thank me. But you're very welcome all the same. I'll care for you now, John," he checked his watch, "you do know you were supposed to go to your quarters when you arrived? I think it's time for lights out, Johnny."

"I was trying to get John off the bridge," Canton explained, sniffling. He had calmed down a bit down now, though there were still whimpers here and there, "idiot never listens to anyone." He managed a smile this time instead of bursting into tears. He couldn't remember feeling so happy, even though his bottom was on fire. Canton gave Charles one last hog, squeezing him tightly. "I'm your buddy," he murmured, burying his face in his chest, "and I'm... special?" He said, hesitantly.

John looked up at the man when he said that he would care for him and that was something he'd not experienced before. "Y-You will?" he asked and then blushed a little when the man mentioned that he was supposed to go to his quarters when he arrived. "...I know...but I was too excited to sleep and I wanted to explore, sir." he answered, tone respectful and he nodded at the mention of lights out. The young man yawned a little and stripped down slowly to his briefs before getting into the bed on his stomach. "Um...goodnight sir." he said gently, hugging the pillow to his chest and nuzzling his face against it.

"I know." Charles chuckled when Canton explained that he was trying to stop his eccentric young friend from going onto the bridge. "I think he'll listen to my good friend though." he added as an afterthought. Seeing him smile was a good feeling and he returned the smile. "I'm going to be here for you, I promise." he whispered when the young man gave him one last hug. "Yes you are special, now come on. Hop into bed." he smiled, giving the sore bottom a gentle tap to get him on his way.

Christian smiled down at him. He ruffled John's hair, before wishing him a goodnight. He turned, turning off the lights and heading outside. Once he was out of John's quarters, he sighed, raking a hand through his hair. What a start to their mentorship! Still, he was definitely fond of the kid. He could tell he was going to be a handful, but that wasn't going to stop him for setting him on the right path, not in the slightest. It just made him all the more determined to take care of him.

"Don't, it hurts!" Canton whined, covering his stinging rear and pouting. He pulled off his clothes down to his boxers and clambered into bed. He gave Charles one last, sleepy smile, "Good night, sir."
