Sandy listened. "Oh. Well maybe she will buy me something." Well if it only was a plush or a shirt and not any sugary stuff.
The little girl finished her breakfast and went to the bathroom to get ready and dressed. That day she got some black trousers, her sneakers and her Glasgow Rangers shirt that she actually got from her grandma. Barney wasn't a soccer fan but if Sandy supported the Rangers he would let her. Even her grandma encouraged it as the protestant glaswegian mostly did so while the catholics favoured the Celtics. Sandy was ready for the day and waited for her papa. Then she went with him to the car and let him buckle her up as she still had a children seat for her safety. Cemolina wasn't ready when they came and was smoking. As usual. Sandy coughed. She couldn't stand cigarettes and their smoke. Of course she covered Sandy in kisses, smearing her with lipstick all over her cheeks. Finally after some more time they were ready to go. |
"Mom, I told you to stop smoking if we visit you!", Barney told her annoyed as Sandy coughed and sighed. "I am sorry little one...you know how grandma is...", he apologized as Cemolina started kissing Sandy all over her face. "Awww you are so cute, I could eat you up, give your grandma a kiss little one", Cemolina said and hugged Sandy to herself. "Mom, I told you when we would pick you up, why aren't you ready?", Barney asked.
"Because I don't have to listen to you! I am not your child, it's the other way around! So you will stay for a moment and wait! And don't rush me, I am old! I need my time!", she scolded him and slapped him on the back of his head. Barney winced and looked at Sandy. "Let's sit down for a moment", he decided. Finally, they could leave and Barney drove to the zoo. "Why are so many people waiting here?", Cemolina asked. "Well they all want to buy a ticket mom, just like we do" "Yeah we will simply go and buy one then", the woman replied and ignored the other people who stood there. A few of them complained of course and Cemolina started arguing with them, until Barney was able to lead her to the end of the line. "It won't take long mom, be patient" "Well it better won't", Cemolina replied grumpily. |
Sandy looked worried and asked:"Are you okay Da?" She then looked at some pictures that stood around and asked her father about them. They were mostly from his childhood but also a few of hers were there.
As they arrived her grandmother expressed her unhappiness about the situation. Sandy followed her. Well why shouldn't they simply get a ticket? After all it would mean a quicker entrance. But Barney won the argument over. Luckily it wasn't long until they could buy the tickets and get in. Sandy got the map for kids and looked at it. "There! There're the big kitties Da! I wanna see them an'...also the kangaroos! What do ye want to see Da? An' ye grandma?" She looked up all happy. |
Barney smiled at Sandy. "Of course little one...don't worry", he assured and stroke her hair. He was thankful that he and Sandy had a better relationship than he and his mother had...well, it wasn't hard to achieve that goal but still...
Cemoline rolled her eyes at Sandy's excitement and Barney looked at the map as well. "Well, I think the panda bears will be interesting", he said. "Of course they will be...more interesting than anything you ever did", Cemolina commented and Barney looked at her. "Mom, you wanted to come with us, so stop being nasty", he told her slightly desperate and also annoyed. "Don't tell me what to do or I will slap you again!", Cemolina said and looked at Sandy. "I don't care about these stupid animals at all...I am just here to spend time with you. Other kids would have asked to do something more interesting, but you are surely the daughter of your father...all you want to see is the zoo and Loch Ness...really...", she said and started smoking again. "We are outside here, so don't look at me like that!", she warned her son who decided to not say anything to that. "Come Sandy, let's go and watch the tigers first", he said, trying to be cheerful. |
Sandy wanted to agree with the pandas as her grandmother was being really nasty. Sandy frowned. " the animals are not stupid! And Da is neither! You're being mean grandma a..and that's not nice! I don't like you if you're like that!" She said and took her father's hand. Sandy wasn't afraid to tell her grandma the truth sometimes. Cemolina sighed. "Alrigh' alrigh'...but only if ye father pays fer lunch." And she followed them still smoking.
Sandy watched the Tigers in excitement and smiled happily. Sometimes she would ask her father to pick her up to see better. The pandas were munching their bambus and there was a little cub, rolling around and trying to climb up the tree. "Look Da..it's like me an' ye." She giggled. They came to a shop and Sandy wanted to have a look. She found a panda plush and and asked if she could have it. |
Barney let Sandy lead him to where ever she wanted to go and picked her up when she asked him too. He even brought a camera, so that they could take photos. As they reached the pandas, Barney smiled and nodded. "Indeed...", he agreed with his daughter and stroke her hair.
Cemolina just rolled her eyes but said nothing. Even if she wouldn't admit it, it hurt her slightly if her grandchild was telling her she didn't like her. It also slightly offended her, but nearly everything was offending her so that wasn't something new after all... At the shop, Barney took the plush and nodded. "Sure, we will have lunch afterwards", he told Sandy as he payed for it. Cemolina gave Sandy some money as well, so that she could buy a fitting shirt as well. "There you go. Let's go and eat, I am hungry", she told them and Barney sighed annoyed. "Are you ready Sandy?", he asked and hold his hand out for her to take. |
Sandy was surprised but happy when she got money for a shirt. She hugged her grandmother quickly and said:"Thank ye grandma!" She happily got herself a Shirt and paid it. She got her bag with the shirt and plush and took her father's hand. She nodded. "Aye. I'm ready Da." They got to one of the restaurants and got a table. Sandy looked at the menue and decided for some chicken. "But I don't want the veggies with it Da..only the tatties. (Potatoes)"
And there we had it. Little Sandy had been well behaved until now. |
Barney lead them to a nice restaurant and they sat down. Sandy decided quickly for some chicken, but also that she wouldn't want the vegetables. Barney sighed. "You still didn't get that into her head, did you?", Cemolina commented and he ignored her.
"Sandy, vegetables are very healthy and important for you. You need to eat them as well. They are good for you", he explained and smiled patiently at her. Cemolina rolled her eyes. |
Sandy winced. "But Daaaaa! I eat the tatties! So that's alright. And the chicken. But please not the peas and the carrots! It's not good." Sandy tried to argue about it. Cemolina watched with interest. She wanted to see how Barney failed to have some authority.
Little Sandy liked to argue a lot with her papa but she also knew that there could be consequences. Her papa may be soft at times but he also knew to be firm. The waitress came. "Hello there. What can I bring you?" Sandy wanted a juice. That would at least be alright. Then she looked at her papa. |
"I don't argue with you about, you will eat the vegetables, ALL of them or you will be sorry", he warned her annoyed. Cemolina rolled her eyes. She would have responses by slapping her grand child and telling her to be quiet. Ah well...
The waitress came and took the order of them. "We would like the chicken for my daughter", Barney ordered, not telling the waitress anything about the vegetables. Then he ordered his lunch and Cemolina did so as well. |
