The Secret of Monkey Island
That's counted as obscure? Even my mother played it, and it was famous enough to get a unwanted cameo in that pirate movie.

It's also still considered one of the best adventures of all time, so I'm not sure how it's more obscure than PW, which is a rather new thing that is really, really niche and that comparatively few have heard of.

The problem with obscure computer games is that, well, you need to play obscure games to even know of them, which probably targets a very small group of people - who would have to draw to participate.

Of course, if you do this contest, I just have the perfect obscure game. Now I just need that mindcontrol device and target CM_Zero.

Are you sure it wasn't the content of the art, rather than the topic that got you kicked~?

PS: People might be a little put-out by the next competition. The focus is on OBSCURE computer games. Things like... erm... The Secret of Monkey Island, the Arcadians, Syberia, Densha-de-go!, Gothika, Skies of Arcadia, and other secret GEMS which no-one but you know and has played and you've tried telling your friends and they don't believe you how great these never-heard-of games are. Being OLD is not the same as obscure.

Luck of the draw, really. /tg/ is more or less completely random about whether posting porn will get you banned or not. As for the next topic, well... You're leaving that awfully wide open to debate. I wouldn't call Monkey Island obscure, for example. Or Skies of Arcadia. (Though spanking art for either would amuse the hell out of me.)

Anyway, as for the current contest... RPG settings can produce some nice art--and I do like both the Exalted and Call of Cuthulu entries--but I admit I wound up leaning towards the entries that focused on the game aspect over the setting. CM_Zero's entry was also very nice, but I wound up giving it a pass for similar reasons. In the end, I think it was a choice between Rak and Collegeboy for me, and I chose Collegeboy because I liked how he played off the actual mechanics. It's been a very interesting contest overall, and I hope the future ones wind up being as successful.

I'll discuss the next competition in July, nearer the time.

Just don't go making any tombraider, dead or alive/mortal kombat, HALO, metalgearsolid, Crash-bandicoot, GTA, Mario/Sonic/Zelda, anything based off a film and anything advertised often on TV. And I insist those are obscure games - we're geeks; whats mainstream to us is obscure to others and whats obscure to us is ephremal minutae to others.

There'll be cake for whoever manages to make a fun Portal pic ! (Yes, I know Chell is the only human character of the game. But think of the self-spanking possibilities offered by portals !)

No.. I didn't mean it like that, CM_Zero.
I'm a very jealous little girl, and I'm sorry if it sounded wrong--but I did notice that people vote mostly for the people who have photoshop to make the quality of their pictures totally amazing. It was my own opinion--Some people did not match the theme in my own opinion, you did I'm sure but I didn't see yours. I finally have photoshop but sadly I have no idea how to use it. It took me 4 days to draw my entry in the contest so I got very jealous because people can draw better than me, therefore they get more votes--that's what I meant by it. Please don't be offended, it wasn't directed at you or anybody really.
I'm sorry if I hurt anyone with my statement of "people only seem to vote for those who can draw well but didn't match the contest theme" thing. :(

Erebus: DAMN YOU! I was actually working on just that (not for the contest). Now for stealing my intellectual property I am suing you over thought crimes for a hundred million dollars*.

Anyway, I think of RPGs and Tabletop wargames when I think "traditional games". That being said, I hate board games and think Monopoly should come with free cyanide tablets, so that when people rope you into the game, you have another (better) option. Also, I was seriously raised on Hero Quest and... some wargame played on a twister-mat sized hex map.

And yes, CMZero, I was handed a 3 day ban, for allegedly posting not-safe-for-work content. It was practically the only actual /tg/-related stuff on the page, however, and we all know what a big joke the SFW rule is (PROMOTIONS!) Oh, and only one guy was complaining and reporting me - everyone else approved.

*This is not serious - though I was working on that picture.

CM_Zero May 10th, 2009 07:29 AM

@ Zae: Ehm, well, I have no idea why you where banned and when and for what reasons. I'm also not really familiar with most of what you say there (Promotions? Report or approve?) I was just talking about my conception of "traditional" in the context of this contest. And even if I don't think Monopoly is very exciting, I still think it's more of a "traditional" game than Tabletops and P&P RPGs.

@ Captain Catnip: Ah, I see. I'm not really offended, but I was consufed. Like I missed an important detail in the contest description which makes my entry miss the theme. No worries though, I'm not hurt ot anything ^^

Well, what are you waiting for ? As soon as you're done, you will be baked and then there will be moist and delicious cake ! (Isn't Portal just the most quotable game ever ?)

I played Hero Quest a lot with my cousins, although we eventually went over to AD&D.

There are many good ones, but I made my choice.
A shame you cant vote on more than one, but guess that would be unnecessary complication.
