"Oh no you don't! Jamie! Get back here!" Elesa bolted after her. Lucy stood there awkwardly, hands on the other two's shoulders, making sure they didn't take off in the direction of their friend. She could always contact her on the walkie-talkie.
Elesa wasn't as equipped to dash through the forest off the trail as Jamie was. She was incredibly fit, but that didn't change the fact that Jamie was able to slip under branches and brush that got into Elesa's face. "Jamie! Wait!"

Jamie sped on till, at the sound of rustling grass, she came to an abrupt halt.
" 'LESA! Oh, my God! A baby deer!"
A brown blur crossed her vision, and she was left with nothing to stare at but a forest clearing.
"UGGGGGGHHHH!"

Elesa finally caught up to her. She caught her breath for a minute, until her eyes caught something tan in one of the trees. She paled. It was a huge wasp's nest. She didn't know if there were any wasps living in it, but she wasn't going to take the chance of her sister disturbing it. "Jamie. Walk toward me slowly. And quietly. Now."

"Go away, 'Lesa. You're just trying to yell at me more." Jamie broke into another run.

With a burst of energy, Elesa tore after her. She tackled her to the ground. A faint buzzing could be heard in the distance. Gritting her teeth, Elesa shielded Jamie with her body, preparing herself for an explosion of pain.

" 'Lesa?. . . LESA!"
Jamie wrenched around beneath her sister, doing her best to shield her from the horrible oncoming swarm. She could only get her arms around her neck, and, small as she was, she succeeded only in getting stung along with her.

Elesa gritted her teeth as she felt a sting on her back, then another on her neck. Then, mercifully, the pain stopped as the abrupt smell of smoke came wafting in. Elesa turned her head slightly, careful to shield her face, and saw Lance and Diantha fifty feet away, with a metal trashcan filled with burning green leaves. "Elesa, get Jamie and run! Come on, before the leaves stop burning!"
Stumbling to her feet, Elesa pulled Jamie up and dragged her away as quickly as she could. Diantha added another bucket full of leaves to the fire and the four of them made a run for it, far away from the wasps.

Jamie was sobbing by the time they reached the campsite. She only knew that she was in pain and that there had been smoke. " 'Lesa, are we going to d-d-die?"

Elesa collapsed to the ground, still squeezing Jamie. "N-no... no, we're going to be fine..." She could feel a welt on her neck, and another on her back. She could see one on Jamie's arm.
"You two need to get into a shower now and wash the stings with soap and water," the camp nurse, Cheryl, told them. "I think you're going to be all right, but do it now so the venom doesn't linger. Then we'll do something about the pain."

Jamie fought to be brave and endure the shower. Skyla joined Elesa and showered her.
"Just look at you. Pumpkin, why can't you or your sister be careful ever? I mean EVER?"
She knew what had happened hadn't been Elesa's fault, but her nagging instincts kicked in when things went wrong. Her hands shook as she soaped the wasp stings.
