Editing Posts
I'm not sure if this has been addressed anywhere else or not, if it has I apologize but I didn't see it. Was just wondering why there was such a short window (or a window at all?) for editing posts, particularly in the roleplaying section of the forum. Miscommunication does happen sometimes and the window to edit can easily disappear before the other party gets a chance to fix the problem sometimes. I don't know just something I have run across a couple of times and been minorly annoyed by. Well that and I hate not being able to fix all my typos when I reread my posts and notice them, though that is my fault for not proofreading better in the first place. Anyways just nit-picking somewhat and love the site, but not really understanding the reason for this limitation.

Re: Editing Posts
The Edit limit on posts is one hour board wide.
If you want something edited after that you just need to click the red R and make a report explaining what you want edited. Unfortunately its really the only secure way to do it. The problem with allowing people to freely edit their posts is some people get an idea that they want to banish all of their posts then it destroys a bunch of topics. It can be really annoying when happens and is horrible for the site url being listed correctly in google. |
Re: Editing Posts
Well I can understand that but wondering if an exception could be made at least for the roleplaying section of the forum (though that may not be possible I don't know.) It would seem like a twenty four hour time limit would still work for the purposes you stated though, and considering most people who rp, post at least once a day that would be a lot more helpful than one hour and would probably more or less fix the problem.

Re: Editing Posts
I'd also really like for the time limit to be increased in the RP section, since there are moments where I wish I can go back and change something after someone talks to me through PM if I made a mistake or wrote something they were not completely comfortable with. If it can be done, if not then that's fine I just wanted to put in my two cents in case you were wondering if there was more than one person that would like more editing time than one hour.
*edit* Also, as far as the R button works, I don't want to use that for things that are smallish like typos or changing some small detail since that seems like an annoying waste of the mod's time to go in and fix nit-picky things like that. I'd much prefer if I could go in and do it myself, especially since I am on this site every day for several hours so I usually end up going back over my posts a few times and finding things I'd change/clean up if I could but the time limit has expired. |
Re: Editing Posts
Naughty Corner have a very good editing system in place that works out really well, for regular RPers there is no time limit at all, for new members there is a time limit.
I also totally agree with Roark and Izumi with their concerns/gripes, have made mistakes myself that effect the Role Play itself, but don't always realise it till later on, and the editing time has expired, annoying really. It would be good if Admin could change the editinhg expiry time, even 24-48 hours would be good, but only for tthose that post regurarly. |
Re: Editing Posts
Ok,
You can edit for 24hours now. |
Re: Editing Posts
Thank you for listening and responding. Just as a side note I personally never knew about using the report function for editing. I just assumed it was for things like an inappropriate post or a third party trying to post into a private rp. I didn't really know it was an option to fix things but I dont think I would want to subject a mod to fixing mistakes they have nothing to do with, or especially typos. Anyhow thanks for the feedback and action, I do appreciate your time.

Re: Editing Posts
I will be taking advantage of that, though the 24 hour timeout will be a great help, thanks L.Sutton
