Dealing with the Rookies - Overthesea/Jade
 

John grinned and nudged his friend's arm, "This is going to be awesome! Bet you're glad to finally be leaving the Academy eh Canton?" he asked, eyes bright and shiny with excitement as the two of them boarded a shuttle to one of the large war ships. "You watch, I'll be a Lieutenant within a year, betcha!" he smirked haughtily. "I can't believe that General Marlin and General Vancouver picked us...I mean, yeah we're awesome....but still....just wow!"

"Hm, you know Christian, I just had a thought." Charles said to his partner who was General of the northern while he was of the southern planets. "We're taking on those two rookies today right? Well....I just thought it'd be sort of...nice to feel like I had my own son or something, I never did settle down...it's nice to know I can pass on what I've gone through all my life." he then smirked, "Of course, I'll have to discipline him if he gets out of hand....hm, not sure how though."

Canton rolled his eyes at his friends eagerness, "You won't get to lieutenant with attitude. Ever see one of the commanders skipping around like a lamb like you're doing? He glanced around the war ship; even with his cynicism, he was impressed, "it is pretty great that they chose us though. Not all too sure about why they chose you," he said, smirking.

Christian smiled and nodded, "I know you've always wanted a son, Charles. Now's your chance to have one. I too have been thinking about that issue. I don't think we should punish them too harshly, they're what, in their twenties. They're practically children. I suggest we treat them as such. After all, I don't want to hurt them."

John rolled his eyes and pushed at Canton's arm, "At least I didn't fail my first physical." he gave the younger male a smirk of his own and then started on his way off the shuttle when it landed, ignoring the woman who was giving them direction on where to go and to be. "I should head to the bridge." he mused and walked off in that direction. Upon entering a wide smile grew on his face and he looked like a kid in a candy store. "Whoa!" he noticed Christian and Charles and waved a little.

Charles smiled and nodded, "Yeah, I think so too and you're right we shouldn't be too harsh on them. But I did get the idea of giving them a good old fashioned spanking if they got out of line." he confessed and then glanced over as he noticed John on the bridge, "Well there's your Rookie, exactly where he shouldn't be." he chuckled and smiled, "I'm guessing my own isn't too far behind."

"I don't think we should go- oh, you never listen," Canton groaned, apologising to the lady and jogging after his friend. He did like the kid, honestly, but god, if he would just slow down some times. The kid never stopped! "Are you trying to get us in trouble on the first day?" He hissed In his friends ear, paused as he looked up. He blinked, "Oh god, is that them?"

"Oh good. I always liked the mischievous ones," Christian said, chuckling, "this should be fun. And here comes yours. Doesn't look too happy, does he?"

John grinned at Canton, "Oh come on you should know me by now Cant, I never follow orders." he answered and then frowned when he noticed Christian and Charles speaking to one another with a smirk on their faces. "Wonder what they're talking about...and yeah that's them." he grinned and strode over, taking a seat in the high ranked Northern General's chair with his feet up on his controls. "Hello."

"Looks like you've definitely got a naughty boy on your hands, Christian." Charles said watching John park his backside in his friend's chair. At that point he made his way over to Canton and smiled, "Hello Mr. Potter I think you remember who I am, we've spoken before." he said softly, a warm look on his face.

Christian raised his eyebrows and chuckled, "Hello. Am I being introduced to my new rookie or my new commander and chief?" He tapped at his boots, the look on his face amused, yet he let the boy know that he was serious when he said, "Feet down now, please."

Canton blinked, caught off guard by the kind look on the mans' face. He gave him a salute, which was what you were meant to do, wasn't it? Commanders always demanded respect, didn't they? Besides, he wasn't going to dare do otherwise. "Yes sir, I remember you," he murmured, his arm falling back to its place by his side

John smirked, "Pretty sure that it will be the latter within a year or so." he answered and then rose a brow when the man tapped his boots. "You know I would, honestly, but...I can't." he answered, smirking again and relaxing with his arms behind his head. "You see, I'm too comfortable, oh and John Tate doesn't follow orders, but you already knew that. You saw me disobey the teacher at the Academy the first time you met me, so why did you choose me to be your apprentice?"

Charles smiled, he appreciated the salute and he returned it out of respect, "At ease Cadet." he said softly and then nodded, "Well considering we know each other, I'll give you my rules that I expect to be followed." he informed and gave him a stern look, "Or there will be punishment."

Christian's eyebrows rose higher, "Why I chose you? Because you were innovative. You're smart. But don't think that won't get you out of your punishment. Now, you can get up and I'm sure you would prefer to do it of your own volition rather than have me make you. I don't want us to get off to a bad start, but you can't expect to get away with behaviour like this just because you're new here."

Canton's stomach dropped like a stone. He didn't let it show on his face, though, rather, he straightened his back and ask, "And what punishment would I receive, sir?"

John frowned, contemplating this, "Punishment?" he repeated, having not heard that word since he had been a child, and even then it was only getting grounded for a week or so, his mother was a weak disciplinarian. "I'm starting to want you to make me, sir." John answered, staying exactly where he was to prove a point of who he thought was in charge at that moment. "I can get away with whatever I want."

Charles chuckled a little and shook his head, "Don't you worry about that, let's just go through the rules first okay?" he asked and thought a moment, "Alright, be respectful, no putting yourself needlessly in danger, no lying to me or anyone on this ship, do as you are told to do." he explained, "And no foul language either."

"Really? Well, I think you should just be grateful I'm not going to punish you here," grabbing his upper arm, Christian led John off the bridge, taking him to his new quarters. His grip was firm and he murmured in John's ear, "Corporal, I do not appreciate your lack of respect for your superiors. I'm surprised you were willing to misbehave so early on. I guess I will just have to teach you some respect."

Canton nodded, wincing a little at the last one. He did like to swear quite a bit. And, well, he wasn't a born liar, but he would certainly do everything, moral or not, to do whatever he needed to do. Which included lying. "Yes sir," he murmured, frowning a little.
