The forest is quiet. Much, much too quiet. The full moon hangs overhead in the cloudless night, a thin mist clinging to the forest floor. A chill wind cuts through the trees, as a pack of hunters chases down their prey. No mere wolves, these hunters... A pack of Cerberuses. Already long dead, their flesh torn, dessicated, knowing only hunger... And they have found something to eat. A certain young S.T.A.R.S. member, caught in the forest on this eerie night...

Rebecca Chambers, STARS rookie, field medic. Brown hair and green eyes, quite petite, standing only 5'3" with a tiny 93 lbs on her. For the longest time, she'd wanted to be a doctor, to work with high tech equipment and discover new methods of healing. The best opportunity for her dreams to come true, was to join STARS.

Rebecca wanted to be a doctor, she wasn't a fighter. But field experience is necessary for new recruits. She couldn't find any loophole to get around that irritating little detail. So much for being a genius, and now, her smarts were useless.

Zombies aren't real. That's what she knew to be true, because they just weren't. Or rather, she used to know that. No she wasn't so sure. After running through trains, churches, mansions and labs, infested with undead monsters, with zombies... Everything the child prodigy knew went out the window. Now her mind was only focused on one the, outrunning the pack of monster dogs that were chasing her!

"Urgh!" Rebecca bit back a curse as she nearly tripped over a tree root, working to regain her momentum. Why in the world was she still wearing her bulletproof vest!? Zombies don't use guns, and all it's doing is slowing her down! A brief flashback reminded her that several inches of bulletproof material was a little more than half-rotten teeth could bite through, and her mind refocused on dodging a large rock.

Unfortunetly, another tree root seemed to pop right out of the ground, sending her flying to the ground. Rebecca struggled to her feet, but she was already caught between a tree, and five sets of teeth...

The lead cerberus dashes forward, leaping towards its prey... and a small amalgamation of brass and lead intercepts the beast in mid-leap, catching the creature right in skull. It hands umvong just past Rebecca's head. Several more gunshots ring out, single-fire... A glance would tell her there's a figure up on the ridge to ther left, muzzle flashes acting as the lightning to the thundercracks of gunfire. The figure is picking off the Cerberuses, buying precious little seconds for Rebecca to get up off the ground and move.

A voice calls out, telling her to do just that. "Up the ridge! C'mon, you don't have all night!"She figure crouches, firing off a few more shots.

'I'm an idiot...' Rebecca's thought exactly, as she pulled out her gun while struggling toward the ridge. She turned, fired a few shots, before scrambling upward quickly, glancing back once or twice to make sure she wasn't about to be pounced on. It took much longer than she would have liked, but the STARS rookie eventually made it to the top of the rigde, flopping down on the ground and gasping for breath.

The figure at the top of the ridge is a young man, maybe mid-twenties, short black hair - looks pretty cute, it's hard to tell in the dark. He's got a backpack, a handgun in the thigh holster... and an MP5A4 with a flashlight and dot sight. That's what he's been picking the cerberuses off with. He looks over at her, and extends a hand to help her up. "I think I got 'em all. You okay?"

She took a few more deep breaths, before glancing up at his hand. After a moment, Rebecca stood up on her own, brushing her pants off. "I'm fine. What are you doing out here!? In case you just crawled out from under a rock, a missle just-" She cut off, and turned back in the direction she came. "Raccoon City..." Gone, decimated, blown up. The STARS rookie dropped her gaze to the ground.

"Yeah, I uh... I noticed that. That's why I'm out here. Death by nuke seems a relatively pointless way to go..." he replies, canting his head to the side a bit. "You're... STARS?" Upon close inspection, he's wearing an RPD uniform. "...Anyway, we should get moving. I've set up camp in an old cabin I stumbled across. I do not like being out in the open like this."

"Y-you-you're from Rac-" She cut off, suddenly remembering to be professional. "I mean... Rebecca Chambers. STARS Bravo team, medic. You?" She asked, walking after him.

He nods, starting off, taking point as he turns on the flashlight manted into the MP5's handgrip. "David Malcolm, Racoon Police Department, Precinct Two. Nice to meet you," he offer her a polite nod, habitually looking around at their surroundings, keeping a nice tab on the environment. Pretty well-trained for a cop. "You come all the way out here to avoid the nuke too, or were you caught out here by coincidence?"

"Yeah..." Was her only response. The rookie officer was staring at David's feet, walking along blindly, scowling.
