The Tables Turn Completely (for RedbuttLover)
 

"Ugh mommmm! I don't need a babysitter!" came the cry of a child who just recently reached double digits in age. Her name was Aria and she your typical girl, which means she was rather spoiled too. She was used to getting her way and would usually do what she needed to get it.

Needless to say, her mother was happy to go away on a business trip for the weekend. "Now Aria, don't through a fit. After all I'm sure that you'll like him. I'm sure it'll be a good weekend for the both of you.."

"Hmph! Yeah right! He's probably gonna try and tell me what to do all the time..." Aria huffed as she flipped her hair a little bit. "(But I all show him...no random guy's gonna tell me what to do...!)" she thought as she heard the doorbell ring.

Steven was short and skinny for his age. He was often compared to thirteen year old children-in height- despite being several years older. He was exactly 4'9, and that often led him into embarrassing situations (usually bullying, his school wasn't the best). As a rule, Steven was an introvert and the led him to being skilled at several things (gaming, reading, and computer coding, but mostly gaming). However, he did get out every once in a while to babysit.

Steven was not what one would call an "experienced babysitter". While he had babysat quite a few times, it was only for family and with very detailed instructions . However, thanks to his mother and her connections, he was being given a chance to earn some good money. But, as this was his first time babysitting someone outside of his family, he was feeling awkward,and the yelling he heard from inside only worsened the unease in his stomach. That was undoubtedly Aria, the ten year old girl he was supposed to watch. From the seams of it, she was not happy that he would be watching her. This was another source of stress as he was used to watching toddlers and babies. Oh, well.

Shifting on his feet, the seventeen year old ran a hand through his brown hair, blue-eyes hardening in resolve. His finger pressed into the button, a loud beeping like sound resulting. Steven then waited.

Aria was throwing a large fit, but the sound of the doorbell silenced her.

Her mother sighed deeply in relief and went to go answer it, she was already to go with her suitcase, her purse, jacket, shoes, she was raring to go. Soon she opened it with a kind smile. "Good morning Steven, please come in..." she said making room for the boy to enter.

"Thank you ma'am," Steven thanked graciously as he stepped inside their home. The teenager came to the mother's chest area, requiring him to strain his neck by looking up. "You're going to be gone for the weekend, correct?" He asked, to confirm one more time. His eyes caught onto a figure a bit further in the house, and he realized that she must be Aria. Smiling casually, he approached her, noting that she was around his height, give or take a few inches (it was this kind of height problems that made him a perfect target for bullies-usually jocks).

"Hello, Aria, it's nice to meet you." He said, holding out his hand.

"Yes I am..." Aria's mother smiled when Steven made his first approach toward her daughter, it seemed that they would be off to a good start.

Aria crossed her arms and turned away, prompting her mother to frown. "Aria, don't be rude. Shake his hand..." she warned sternly, causing the young girl groaned, before reluctantly taking his hand with her equally sized one.

Steven noted how soft her hands were. His hands were probably the same though, he figured. Turning back to the mother, he said. "Your daughter will be just fine. Is there anything else I need to know before you set off?" He asked. He had read several guides about professional babysitting and all of them had mentioned that it was best to ask for additional instructions that the parent may have forgotten to mention earlier.

"I've pretty much covered everything so far when we spoke yesterday, make sure she gets to sleep at a decent hour, she's not in front of the television all day, not too many sweets, but besides that that's it..." something about her made it seem as though Aria's mother was...'excited' to leave for this trip. "I have to leave in order to catch my flight on time, bye sweetie...!" she said, blowing a kiss to Aria before hurrying out the door.

Aria sighed deeply. "Ugh...this sucks...why am I getting watched by a kid my own age...?!" she asked, clearly confusing Steven's lack of height for youth, which explains her assumption!

Steven nodded, making a mental list of his responsibilities. Watching the mother leave, his sharp ears caught Aria's question, which may or may not have been directed at him specifically. Feeling slightly offended, he brushed it off. He was used to it. "Actually, I'm seventeen. I'm just...on the short side." He explained.

"Anyway, have you already had breakfast?" He asked. If she had, then maybe she would want to play a game.

"You're seventeen...but no other teenager I've seen is THIS short...you're a shrimp!" Aria pointed out with a giggle, ignoring Steven's question as she was still caught on this little fact.

But then she suddenly frowned and glared at the boy. "I dunno what mom's thinking, but I'm not about to take orders from a shrimp...!"

Steven was embarrassed at being called a shrimp and and the redness of his face showed this. When she tried to claim independence, he realized he needed to be more of an authoritative figure. "Yes, you are. You're not some goddess that people would feel blessed by just smelling your feet. You're a ten year old girl." He said, hoping that she would get it through her thick head that he was in charge.
