[GAME JAM] 3rd Unofficial AOTK Spanking Game Jam Discussion
Welcome to AOTK's 3rd Spanking Game Jam!
THEME: in a museum DATES: Wednesday 3/25-Sunday 4/5 You're stuck inside, and you're sick of the news. You're spending your time online anyway, but it's getting dull fast. You need a way to get creative. A way to pass the time. You need to make a game about everyone's favorite topic: spanking. Introducing...*drumroll*...the AOTK Spring 2020 Spanking Game Jam! Everyone is invited to compete in the AOTK's 3rd unofficial spanking Game Jam. This is the thread where we'll discuss the rules and I'll get feedback from creators and spectators alike. WHAT IS A SPANKING GAME JAM? A game jam is a friendly competition. The host comes up with a random theme, and the participants must create a small game based on that theme in a set amount of time. The challenge is to make something fun an interesting with limited time. Oh, and of course, it has to involve spanking! At the end, AOTK users will vote to decide whose game is best! THE RULES: Anyone can participate! To join in on the fun, here's what you do:
This thread is the official discussion thread for this project! If you wish to share ideas or resources, here is where to do it! SOME OPTIONS FOR PROGRAMS TO USE Twine: This is a good option for newbies to game making, it's just text and a little bit of Javascript if you wanna get fancy. Many tutorials exist to get you up and running as well and you can even include images! Free. RPG Maker: Many games on this forum use this tool, and a lot of people are familiar with how to use it. There are a myriad of tutorials for this, including some that I made specifically for spanking games! Not free. Game Maker: This one is a little more complicated, but is probably still within the possibility of use if you look at tutorials. Free. Unity: If you're feeling brave, Unity is also a viable option. It is the only one on this list that you can create 3D games with, but it may be a little much unless you already know how to program. Free. TADS: This is a program for creating text adventures like ZORK! It requires a degree of programming experience to use, but the possibilities are pretty open for what you can do with it. Free. Inform 7: Inform 7 is similar to TADS in that it creates text adventures like ZORK, but the programming language that you use is plain English sentences. e.g. "The Living Room is a room." will create a room called The Living Room. Free. ADRIFT: This is another text adventure creator, but this one works with a gui and does not require very much programming knowledge, if any. Free. Ren'Py: Ren'Py is designed for making visual novels. Many popular visual novels that you've heard of were made with this program, including Doki-Doki Literature Club! Art would be a necessity for this, as well as a degree of programming experience. Free. This thread is the official discussion thread for this project! If you wish to share ideas or resources, here is where to do it! May the best game win! |
Don't forget:
Notepad/Wordpad/Microsoft Word - This can be used to write a CYOA where you tell the player to "go to the section titled 'Mah Best Section'." Sure it's a little inconvenient, but whatever. No learning curve! |
The theme is up! Game creators, you can begin!
You will now have 12 days to complete a spanking game to enter into our GAME JAM! When you do, be sure to title your post as follows: "[SPRING 2020 GAME JAM] The Name of Your Game." Remember, your game needs to be somehow related to the phrase "in a museum" in order to be considered. This thread is the official discussion thread for this project. If you wish to share ideas or resources, here is where to do it. May the best game win! |
Such a nice idea, I need something to play these day. I'll try to do something, since I ever wanted to something for this site (and doing nothing creative in these days is driving me mad).
Anyway @victormammmoth can you add the correct Time Zone for the end of the game jam? Quote:
Ideas: - "Night at the Museum" style, based on the 2006 movie or the book: the things in the museum come to life. This could be hilarious. - "Black Museum" style, based on the episode of "Black Mirror", an anthology series about technology: the exhibitions are the hooks to tell little stories about the objects. This could be perfect to tie different stories into one. - Spanking Museum, simple and interesting idea. Maybe if not an entire museum just a temporary art exhibition on the theme? Maybe some type of "body art" (This could be a real thing! )? - Spanking machine museum, I believe some real life museum has some spanking machine somewhere. And spanking machines are a classic but need to be tested now since the museums are closed, right? - Virtual museum tour, this could be fun for a VR theme or maybe the game itself is presented as the tour? Maybe while you are "visiting" the museum your roomate keep telling you your are not playing a drum but her butt? Maybe a tour for the spanking museums I suggested before? These are not the only ideas I have, the good things about these jams is that the first time you think about the theme you may feel limited, but the second and third time you are already bending reality and fitting everything in your scheme. If you are like me, you're waiting for something new to play every time you log in this site. It's time to give example, and jump over the DM screen to do it yourself. It's just a game jam: the game won't be perfect and the time is limited. Give us the best you can. You can even learn something doing it, from just writing stories and writing in English to some game design and coding, drawing etc skills. The suggestions above about the programs are amazing, since I don't have time to learn something too complex and I don't have RPG Maker I'm going to try Twine, let's see. Have fun everyone and share you progress! |
@42idiot, good catch. The Time Zone for the ending will be 11:59pm Greenwich Mean Time (GMT/UTC).

Are collaborations allowed?
Because I've got a very good idea for a game called "It Belongs In A Museum!" but even on virus lockdown, I am spectacularly slow when it comes to actually working out how to make game engines do what I want. So if someone else wanted to work with me on design/implementation, we'd come up with a better game than either of us could do by ourselves. (Yes, I know this thread starts with a bunch of links to programs that make it easy. But "easy" and "easy enough that my lazy old Luddite ass will actually do it in 12 days" are two different things.) So if anyone would like to work with me on a spanking-themed horror/humor game based on the obsessive amount of research I've done into historical spanking practices, incidents, fictions, forgeries, clubs, and supervillains, PM me? |
