Problem with editing thread titles.

I have been wondering what's the point of being able to edit a thread's title when the edit won't show on the thread list page where people are actually browsing the titles? I edited one of my threads' titles 2 months ago and it still shows the original title on the thread list page and also on the page that loads when the "Show all threads by this user" link is clicked in my profile. The same problem occurs with another thread too which title I've tried to update. The new titles exist only inside the threads. This happens on the Roleplay section's Recruitment & Discussion forum. I don't know if anywhere else.

I have tried different browsers and emptying their cache and even all data. It doesn't help so it appears not to be on my end.

Where's the staff? It seems this has been ignored for nearly seven weeks now.

I'm unclear what the permissions are for changing thread titles.

I expect that the system is behaving as intended and that you're just not meant to have that much control over them.

Then I'd ask the admin to change that. After all it's one's OWN thread and there are many good reasons why a thread may nerd editing without the staff necessarely needed. Especially if it is this impossible to even get the staff to respond to something like this. Would also save server space over time when people wouldn't have to start new threads because they can't fully edit the current one, and/or havek to keep posting because the staff is ignoring them.

If the system is the way it is because someone has somehow abused thread title editing in the past, I'd ask the staff to reconsider the army style choice of taking a thing away from everyone just because one or a few people used it wrong. As I've brought up and is further proven by the staff ignoring this for months and months (and possibly forever), this is way more inconvenient to everyone than it would be to just react to the likely rare abuse if such happens.

Seriously. Where is the staff? I'm sure there is more than one or two people running this site.

I suspect at this point there isn't much I can say without just giving you more reasons to feel marginalised and offended. Therefore, I'll just take the plunge: We're not ignoring you, responding to your first post was a pretty low priority for us since, as far as I'm aware, the system is behaving correctly. That was the end of it for us. Users shouldn't be able to edit their own thread titles on this forum at the moment.

It's a fair comment that it would be useful to do and I think it has been enabled in the past so in the new year I'll have a peek at it.

Yeah, we could have answered you sooner, I jumped on when I saw the bump you gave... but we're all volunteers here and sometimes we just hope somebody else will do it. Most people who actually need help with something we see as a legit bug, flaw or problem with the site get help really quickly. Most reports are looked at and actioned within minutes.

With regards to your last post on the 28th saying we've been ignoring you... well... No. We thought we were done. In the nicest possible way. Your question was asked and answered, I'm sorry it took ages in the first place and I'm sure it makes you feel unappreciated but the answer you got on the 9th was intended to be the end of it. I don't know what you expected between the 9th and the 28th to happen but the answer you got was the only one I have to give.

As to what most of the mods do... It's the usual: delete spam; respond to post reports and notifications; do thread approvals and; check the galleries/comments. Only a few of us actually read and respond to this section.
- So, yes, responding to threads like these are only done by three people.

Some constructive feedback then:

Yes I understand my issue is low priority, but 7 weeks of absolutely nothing just was in my experience very unusual as well as rude when it comes to long-standing large sites. I was expecting at least something like 'We'll look into this as soon as we can and get back to you later." type of reply within a week or two, to show that my existance and issue has been acknowledged even if not high priority. As such a courtesy initial reply would take all of 10 seconds or so to post.

Also, apart from the coloured username it isn't clear from your mini profile or signature that you are part of the staff, combined with the uncertain tone in your reply made it sound like you have nothing to do with running this site but are more like a regular member throwing a guess/theory on the table. That's why I still felt ignored afterwards, thinking my post hadn't been acknowledged by the staff at all.

But I would have anyway replied with those points I made about allowing users to truly/fully edit their thread titles because it's on topic and I feel like it's a good suggestion / improvement worth considering. I appreciate you talking a look at it and I hope it can be enabled again.

Did anything ever come out of this?

Asked and answered. Twice.

No, I meant the possibility to fully edit the titles of one's own threads so that the edit would apply also on the thread list page instead of only inside the thread. You said it's been enabled in the past and promised to look into it this years, to see if it could be enabled again?

Asked and answered. Thrice.
