Pain and how to deal with it

As I sit here writing this I am in pain from wisdom teeth removal. I am wondering how all of you dealt with the pain from this or any other operation.

Morphine is free on the NHS. Bliss.

I highly recomend Morphine at every opertunity (Even when people arn't in pain!). Everything in the whole world starts to make sense - especially the Hawk made of crystal feathers that was sat at the end of my bed.
After we got back from our flying lesson through the valleys, swooping over the hills and cresting the rivers lit with golden cascades of sunset it was bliss - and it made perfect sense to me that this was exactly was was and should be happening at the time.

my suggestion for toothache is clove oil, tho its not good to swallow it and its best for temporary since prolonged use can damage gums, another suggestion is a clove of garlic basically cut it into slices and put each side.. granted its temporary relief but its refile none the less.

I experience pain every day from a genetic disease... so it's something I've become decent at dealing with.

Make sure you take your pain medication that the doctor prescribed you, and if it doesn't help you to go back and tell him/her. If the pain medication, most likely vicodin in wisdom teeth operations, makes you sick... make sure you take it on a full stomach. I know that's hard because of the mouth pain but if you have to, eat a shit-load of applesauce or something. If it still makes you sick, take a benadryl with it. In some people, narcotics like Morphine, Vicodin, and Dilaudid will trigger your histamine receptors to go nuts and make you VERY sick. A bit of Benadryl is the trick.

Get lots of sleep and fluids so it heals properly. The sooner it heals, the sooner the pain goes away.

Have you tried any numbing agents like orajel-type sprays that numb the back of the throat? Though I'm not sure if that's smart after a surgery... hm....

Sorry... I wish I could be of more help. =/

I had my wisdom teeth removed on the 16th. I didn't need medication at all until about a week later so I just took ibuprofen and now I'm ok.

they can stick something in your mouth, its nasty tasting at first but it kills the pain right away, I had 3 taken out and that is what they did with me

it also depends on what you apply it to, it tastes like shit but if you directly apply to the gum and any holes it should work, also as a point of interest taking ibuprofen is good for reducing swelling.

Ah wisdom teeth.....I had two of them come in at the same time. That sucked. I didn't get them pulled but I tried clove oil, this stuff that numbed your mouth/gums (but that wore off too much and every time it did I had to reapply) and basically anything I could think of to try and dull it as much as I could. I think I was taking muscle relaxants as well till I used up the last of the pills. It was a sort of rummaging through the medicine cabinet looking for pain relievers that led me to that. It helped but it never got rid of all of the pain.

Ultimately I guess it was a waiting game and I had to pretend my teeth didn't hurt at all and go about my days until the pain stopped. Masturbating and sex helped (I'm serious) but mostly I just walked around like a zombie barely sleeping or eating, doing anything to keep my mind off of it. I guess the good thing about this kind of pain is that it's temporary. So after a few days of downtime you're right as rain.
