Spring 2010 Story Contest Redux

-------->*VOTING CLOSED; EMILY IS THE WINNER!*<--------
Okay people, listen up. After discussing matters with the contest entrants, we decided to open the story contest--remember that?--to wider voting. That's right! You, the public, will get to participate in the democratic process. Exciting! Since it has been a while, a brief reminder: the challenge was to write a spanking story in the style of a chosen author. A bit difficult for our first story contest, but we got lots of great work covering all pairings and genres in spite of that so give 'em a look:
You can also snag them all at once by downloading the attached zip file. The voting period will last two weeks, starting... now. So get reading! |
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and diversity of the entries (setting aside my own, which I'm quite unfit to judge properly). I found something to like in each of the stories, and greatly enjoyed most of them.
My voice is going to Emily. While the spanking is only implied, her story is nevertheless a delightful read. |
There was a lot of variety in these stories, some relying on humor and others on poetic language, or unique ideas. All very interesting to read, but unfortunately this diversity made it hard to fairly judge which really was "best" of the bunch. Some were just in completely different realms stylistically speaking, so to compare them on equal grounds is really pretty much impossible, especially since the authors whose styles were followed were from different styles themselves. And the only author that I knew of the bunch was Poe.
I enjoyed all of them, and found delight in reading them all. However, I ended up choosing iconoclast's "Punisher From the Pool" because of the really impressive writing and imagery, with great narrative and a unique interesting tale. I found it very unique and it stood out to me, yet again, this choice was very difficult. Good job to all of those who entered, all were very well done and entertaining. |
Quite a difficult choice indeed. It was quite hard for me to narrow it down to two candidates, Erebus and Emily, since I actually liked all of them. I know this sounds pretty standard contest jib-jab, but people who know me know I am vehemently against complimenting something I don't think that deserves it, so when I said I liked them all (except for mine... urgh), I well damn mean it. In the end, it all narrowed down to those two because I found I liked them in more aspects overall than the rest, and the final choice went to Emily because I felt that the level of implicitness of the spanking added an originality edge.
Very slim difference, I can tell you, but I had to choose, and thus I did. |
...I'm a bad person.

Let her imply all she wants. Maybe if I can convince the IRS that I'm not human, they'll give me some sort of tax break.

Of more interest are why'd you be so interested in standing out and/or winning a competition which, plainly spoken, is not a big deal altogether in the sense that it'll change your life a lot. Guess that doesn't say much about you, but whatever... it's a minor transgression at best. Nothing to get your pants in a bunch all over. |
