Some Lessons Come Harsh (Private)
"Gohan, no!"
If the half-Saiyan heard his father he didn't submit to the call. If anything, his determination seemed to grow even greater. His soul and ears were on one thing and one thought and that was his mentor, Piccolo, falling underneath Cell's attack. His ki was gone. He could just _sit_ here no longer! Ki build up in every muscle, every vein and with every beat of his heart, which was currently going at a rapid pace. He felt the rush of adrenaline, the surge that plunged his muscles into readiness, his senses into hyper mode and his courage beyond comprehension. More than anything though, it was anger that guided his thoughts and his actions and it was anger that would give him strength. But as his father well knew, it would likewise be anger that clouded his judgement. "Gohan, I said no!" Gohan yelped, half heartedly in surprise and shock, as two stronger arms locked in an iron clad grip around his shoulders, one hand clamped firmly over his right shoulder, the other easily pinning his arms down. The sudden pressure on his body effectively pinned his feet to the ground, no matter how hard he tried to force his ki to lift him airward and towards his fallen friend. "Let go of me!" The boy's voice came out with anger and sadness embodied, resulting in an almost broken crackle. His eyes didn't gather tears but his soul did. It burned inside him with an almost intoxicating desire to go and help, regardless of his young age and his lack of skill or strength. "Let go of me, Dad!" Goku's voice came back, just as strong but no less gentle than usual. "No. Listen to me-" "Let me go! Piccolo might still be alive!" He pulled against his father's grip, despite knowing it would accomplish little, if it accomplished anything at all! His father's arms held fast, much like a vice would. For whatever reason, Goku was dead set against letting Gohan go. Why...why would he keep him from helping his oldest teacher? "Gohan, stop and listen to me!" Goku's voice was turning slightly harder, more stern. His grip tightened and he adjusted his grasp so that Gohan could scarcely struggle anymore. It was a grip perfected after years of parenthood, particually the years of two and three! "Piccolo needs me Dad! Piccolo might still be alive! He needs me! He NEEDS me! Let me go! Let me go! Let me go! It's not fair!" "I know, I know it isn't fair." Goku kept his voice fairly calm, despite his own dismay over the situaion. If he was getting emotional, that wouldn't help Gohan any. So, despite his worry, sadness and own anger at the pure injustice of being able to do nothing, he replied "But we have to take the one chance we have and that means we have to fight back when we KNOW we have a chance or else Piccolo would have died for nothing!" Goku's grip slackened when he felt Gohan's muscles loosen. He released his hold slowly and for a brief moment, Gohan stood there, shaking before falling to his hands and knees, whispering, in a tear choked voice "...damn." |
"I know that you want to help him but you can't by acting this way! It's not what Piccolo and the others would want." Goku said.
"Dad but what are we supposed to do?" "You train hard in there." Goku replied. "But what about Cell?" "Vegeta can handle him." Gohan sighed and just let himself stand for a bit. His heart was wanting to go and help. |
"Vegeta..." Gohan glanced up at his father, his eyes hardly believing what his father said and it showed clearly with the discontent in his eyes. "Vegeta might but what about Piccolo?" He demanded, anger in his voice.
"Piccolo'll only be distracted by you, Gohan!" Goku responded, not full of anger but his voice certainly carried a heavy weight to it. He hated to be stern, especially when it consisted of his son but he had also lived through many battles, including many where friends died. It was a horrible fate but one that happened. "Distracted?" Gohan blinked, his eyes burning. "Distracted? I could get him out of there!" The pre teen informed his father, his small hands clutched into tiny fists. He was angry and upset, not just at Cell but at his father for keeping him here. "Your plan is just letting people die!" He spat at him, a sharp hiss to his voice. "You're making me sit here and feel my friends get killed!" Tears poked out now but Gohan wiped them away with the back of his arm. "I don't care what you say _Father_! _I'M_ going to go and _help_ my friends!" That much assured, he tore away from his father, building up the ki underneath his feet as he ran |
Goku popped in front of his son, his fist going into his son's left cheek.
Gohan landed with a hard thud to his backside. Goku stood there silent his back turned and a mornful look to his eyes. "I'm sorry I had to knock you down son, but I had to stop you. You won't help our friends acting like that little man." "I'm sorry daddy." "I know. But lets work hard inside that chamber to get revenge for his death." Gohan nodded as he sat by his father waiting for his turn. |
It was irritating and mind boggling to just sit. He had all sorts of thoughts running through his mind, namely his father's plan. Absently rubbing his cheek even though the sting had faded almost instantly, he stood and started to walk to the window, back to the door, back to his father and then start over.
"Gohan, sit down and stop pacing." The pre teen regarded his father "I can't help it Daddy. Why are Vegeta and Trunks taking so long?" "Their time isn't up yet." he replied without even opening his eyes from his deep meditation. "It needs to hurry up. They need to hurry and get stronger so WE can get stronger!" the boy complained, sitting down by his father again with a hefty sigh. |
Gohan walked over to the door. He started knocking.
"you need to finish so daddy and I can train now you've been in too long he called thinking they would be able to hear, seeing his plea wasn't working Gohan ran to Mr. Popo. "How long until they're done they need to come out now" He whined. "They'll finish in an hour." "BUt thats way too long" Gohan whined. |
Mr. Popo gave an understanding smile. "Long it may seem but the waiting will teach much."
Gohan blinked "Are you pulling that old "patience is a virtue" thing?" With a gentle smile, he nodded "Wisdom becomes that way for a reason." Gohan didn't reply but walked back to his father and flopped at his feet. "Daddy, why are they taking so long?" Goku chuckled and put a hand in his son's hair. "be patient. They'll be done soon then it'll be our turn." Gohan frowned, he felt ki falling weaker left and right and it made his heart pound. His fists clenched so tightly , his nails cut into his palms |
Once more GOhan tried to run to the edge of the LookOut. Goku grabbed him.
"I know one thing your doing for a bit Son" "WHAT? Gohan snapped with an attude. "Your taking a nap." "I am not, NOT with all that SHIT going on down there, NOT with my friends being killed I am not taking a damn nap!" Gohan snapped hard. |
To say Goku was stunned would have been an understatement. Gohan was always polite and well mannered, at least usually. But even when he did get an attitude, like he had now, he had never used those words. Goku wasn't even sure Gohan _knew_ those words.
"What did you say, son?" Gohan froze and eyed his father "Sorry...I didn't mean for it to come out like that but I'm NOT sleeping, I can't, not with all my friends in danger down there! |
GOku grabbed the boy's ear,
OWWWW! Lego! Lego! OWWW that hurts your going to pull my ear off." "I am not but you are getting your mouth washed out with soap for that language then your going to go lay down and take a nap is that understood gohan. If not I can send you back to your mother. |
