Default Problem Reporting: Think you have a problem or bug on the site? Read This First!

Steps to take

  1. Try an alternative internet browser - Our sites work best with FireFox and Chrome browsers, although most others should work. Opera is buggy at the best of times with anything other than html sites so we do not reccomend it. If you are already using Firefox or Chrome, try the other - it will help diagnose your problem
  2. If the problem went away when you switched to a different browser, or even if it stayed there, try clearing your browser cache- this fixes 90% of problems experienced by users.
  3. Check the shoutbox to see if there is an admin message that's been posted recently about small issues that are being dealt with. Normally when we're going to be experiencing periods of high server load due to full site backups being made or other similar isues we'll post a bulletin there
  4. Check the News Forum to see if there is a message about a large issue currently effecting the servers or site. If we're aware of something and working to fix it we'll let you guys know
  5. Check your browser plugins. Are you running advert blocking software? This can often interfere with the code the site runs so you won't get the full user experience. Try temporarily disabling all plugins and see if the problem still occurs.
  6. Are you running the latest versions of flash and java? Even though we make minimal use of these it's worth double checking you have them up to date. Is your browser up to date?
  7. Check to see if your firewall might be interupting traffic sent from our site to your PC - we have had situations in the past where people who had highly agressive firewalls were left unable to use interactive features on out sites
  8. Is the error you're getting "Server is too busy" or similar? This error means exactly what is says. The server is currently doing something that's overloaded it and to prevent getting more overloaded your request to view something has been rejected. Try reloading the page after a few minutes.
  9. Is your problem that you don't know how to do something on the site? If so, perhaps "Questions and Answers" is a better section than problem reporting?
  10. So you've been through this whole list and tried everything suggested? OK, you might have found a real bug Now is the time to post a message here. Be sure to tell us you followed all these steps otherwise the first response will be to read this thread and follow everything!
