Julian woke up late - not too late to get to work though, he thought glancing at the clock beside his bed. Lana was gone. He felt a momentary panic, which subsided as he realized she must have gotten up early and hadn't wanted to wake him up. Still, he wished he could have seen her off.
Julian pulled himself out of bed. He put the kettle on and wondered absently what he should have for breakfast. He noticed the notepad on the coffee table and smiled. There, in the center, was a lipstick kiss just like the one on the napkin with her phone number that Lana has given him on their first date. Julian wanted to call her now, but wasn't sure if she was at work already. He decided to text instead.
"Good morning," he texted, "I hope you slept well." He added a smile and a heart and hit send, and then sat down to a breakfast of toast and marmite.
