Caleb had almost fallen asleep when he heard a rattling noise which awoke him from his slumber. Was the wind outside shaking his bedroom window?

No, that didn't appear to be the case. The shaking was coming from inside the closet. That didn't make any sense. Was a raccoon in there? Not possible...it had to be something worse...it had to be a monster.

But monsters didn't exist. They weren't real. Caleb sat up in bed, looking at the closet. No matter how many times he tried to imagine the noise wasn't there, it was. What the heck was making that stupid noise!?

Besides fear, his other emotion was curiosity...curiosity, and the desire to make sure there wasn't a monster in his closet, so he could be confident that his fear was unfounded. He thought of going to inform his parents instead. But they might be angry he was up so late.

So, Caleb slowly got out of bed, putting one sock on the floor and then walking to the middle of his room. He looked closer at the closet. He almost thought he could see green light inside his closet, very very faintly...but that wasn't possible. It had to be a trick of his tired brain.

Like a moth to a flame, he was drawn closer to the closet. The slender, delicate, soft-hearted young boy took one gentle step at a time towards his closet. He reached it, and wanting his fear to come to an end, he hesitated only for a moment...and flung open the door!

He was NOT prepared for what he saw!
