The trick is you can only use items in situations that make sense, so go to a place where you think you'll use an item from your inventory, click INVENTORY, and if you're right it will show up
blue. For example, if you find a box of matches, you may want to go to the study where the fireplace is. Then, click INVENTORY, and the matches will show up blue
