Default AI Generated Artwork?

I may be jumping the gun here, but we are rapidly approaching a point where this will need to be decided. I tried searching around before asking to make sure I'm not repeating a previous question.

Is AI generated artwork allowed in the gallery here?

At a basic level, a person has used a computer to create a spanking picture. It's an oversimplification, but you could say that about any digital artwork.

However, I think most people could agree that someone drawing in a program, and someone feeding a bunch of words into an AI image generator, are not the same. I would go so far to say one of those people is an artist, and the other is not.

It would be easy to say no. AI generated artwork is not allowed. That eliminates a lot of consideration and is an easy answer. I would understand the rules being updated to reflect this.

One problem with a blanket no is that AI artwork is getting better, rapidly. It isn't as obvious now when something is a crafted digital artwork that took someone hours of work, or if it was a person with a text box and access to an AI image generator throwing words at it until a good result happens. For better or worse AI image generation has become affordable and accessible to a point where I believe we are going to be seeing a lot of it soon.

Okay, so what if the answer is that AI generated pictures will be allowed? It isn't easy to know the source of these images. All AI image generators have different rules about ownership of the results. It wouldn't be good to let images go up that another site technically owns. Users could claim (if they even admit it's AI generated) that the images came from a site that states users own the results, even if they didn't, and eventually some sites could query the internet for pictures they 'own' and cause trouble.

All of this is to say. I don't know what the answer should be.

I've ended up with a lot of good pictures (and thousands of terrible ones) playing with AI image generation. Unfortunately, most of them are furry; this is because the furry module for the image generator I use more consistently creates spanking pictures, and less nightmare fuel, than the anime module.

No matter what is decided, because of the furry rule, my pictures will have to stay in my private collection, but I am curious how this is going to be handled. I think it's going to be a new moderation problem either way.

Honestly I think AI art work should have their own gallery. I want to know that the art I'm looking at was drawn by someone with art talent rather than someone putting words through an algorithm until they worked.

Short answer is... don't know yet.
It's a new and emerging technology and the temptation is just to try and marginalise it - but that's not gonna work over time.

Still thinking~

My concern is not the source, but the quickness and ease of the images' creation. Since it only takes seconds to make an AI image, it's easy to have the site flooded with them, both the original images and variations of them. If they are allowed, I would suggest at least a rule saying that only one version of the same base image can be posted.

Or a new site can be made. We can call it AIAi. :P
