Spencer scowled with all of his might up at his larger than life partner. What would someone like Matthew, a being who must view almost thirty long years of life as nothing, know about the pride a man had. He wanted to shove the other away and stomp his foot, but instead he crossed his arms and shook his head, refusing the comfort of being close.

"I told you I don't want to go anymore." He said softly and looked down at the floor. "It's not going to be any fun if I have to be," he made air quotes sarcastically. " 'Escorted' by one of your little soldier babies or whatever."

Green eyes looked up imploringly. "Matthew I am almost twice the age of some of those kids. If I have to drag one of them around with me then I don't want to go. Just let me do some inventory please." Without waiting for the others answer, he started to brush by the other and head into the cellar once more.

"Alright..." Matthew started letting him slip by. "BUT. " He called letting his voice carry in to a more commanding one that was quite practiced for when he was speaking to men in the military. "I want you to go to Jackie and explain this to him. I want you to explain why he will be denied permit for a missive he's been asking me for, for months now. If you do that then I'll consider it forgotten. " Matthew explained. "I'm sure that a 'soldier baby' will be quite understanding of your plight." Matthew crossed his arms watching Spencer as he had decided to descend the stairs.

Truth be told Jackie was young and small for his age looking more to be a book worm but at the age of seventeen he was certainly old enough to start gaining experience in something so small.

"Wait," Spencer whirled on him, small hands balling into fists. "So you're telling me that you've been promising some kid he could take me places for months?" He was so enraged his voice shook. "And now it's my fault for not wanting to do something I only brought up minutes ago? Why didn't you ask me before? Why would you even tell him something like that?"

The brunette set his hands on his hips, feeling his whole body vibrate with anger. "Who is that fair to? I never signed up to-to be some kind of pawn for your stupid pretend soldier games. Let me guess did your little charge get some sort of reward for bringing me back safely? Damnit Matthew I am not a toy for you to use like this!"

Green eyes started to fill with tears. "How could you think this was the right thing to do?"

"You get far too ahead of yourself with assumptions my dear. " Matthew shook his head seeing the smaller work himself in to tears. "I've been telling him I would think about a task suitable for him. You just so happened to bring up a perfect one... And now you don't even want to try... And now ; you've gone and worked yourself up over nothing for not getting things your way... Honestly Spencer. " Matthew crooked a finger and beckoned him over. "Come here... There's no need for tears..." Matthew coaxed allowing his voice to shift to a softer tone.

"Noooooohohoho!" Spencer wiped at his eyes as he continued to stand away from the other, the few tears had turned into a cascade. "I'm an aduuhuhult!" His shoulders heaved and he stomped his foot on the floor. He hated being treated like this by the large creature, but what he hated more was looking at the other when he was angry but Matthew was trying to comfort him.

If he walked over and let himself be soothed at that moment, the the other would assume he'd won the argument, when Spencer was very much of the opinion that he was in the right and his white haired partner was so in the wrong.

"I woooon't," Spencer sobbed even as he put his arms out, hands imploring the other to come and hold him, he couldn't make himself walk back across the kitchen.

As Spencer started to sob Matthew sighed softly and started over he eased down a bit and hugged the smaller close before scooping him right up and carrying him down stairs bridal style. He stepped down in to the cellar and over to a small break table where he nudged out a chair with his foot and took a seat settling Spencer in his lap a he warped an arm about his waist and nuzzled close pecking him on the cheek. He with drew a kerchief from his pocket and draped hit over his thumb before he started to gently dab at the edger of Spencer's eyes. "Hush now little dear~ Perhaps if you can finish all of your chores and quit with the sulky sass I might reconsider letting you go on your own.. ." Matthew coaxed perhaps giving in a little too easily. But he hated to see Spencer cry so.

Spencer quieted down in the others arms, leaning into him and sniffling softly. "D-don't you see my point though?" He hiccuped and rubbed at his eyes. "Maybe if we do our chores," he fussed with the hem of his dark tunic and turned dark green eyes up to look at the large male.

"Maybe if we get them done early YOU could go with me?" The brown haired man blushed at his own soft submissive voice. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to get upset. But sometimes you just... you don't listen to me and you just do what you want."

He didn't comment on the fact that whatever Matthew wanted was always in his own best interest, that wasn't the kind of thing the young man would be willing to admit, not even to himself.

"And whom should we leave in charge of the inn should we both go? " He questions gently as he runs his fingers soothingly through Spencer's hair. "Not that I'm saying I wouldn't -love- to come out with you~ but I sum how doubt you have any trust in my... how did you put it? 'Stupid Soldiers?' " Oh Yes Matthew wasn't going to let that go for a while now.

Spencer rubbed at his eyes again, crying in the middle of the day always made him very sleepy. He yawned as he considered the others words. "You know I didn't mean to say that. I don't," green eyes looked away and he fidgeted with the hem of his tunic once more. "I don't mean to say those things when I'm upset. They're very nice and responsible young men."

The thought of someone else running the Lily while they were gone grated at his nerves however. Since meeting and eventually living with Matthew, the young man had to grasp and hold tight to any feeling of control he might find.

"What if we close down for a little. We can be back before the dinner rush, I just know it." The smaller man looked up with wide hopeful eyes and tucked a strand of hair behind his ear for good measure, giving the other the sweetest look he could manage.

"Alright alright... But we have to leave when it's time to go understand?" Matthew asked as he fussed with the smaller trying to help dry his tears. "For now we have work to attend to and if we want to go together we need to make sure everything is done. " He reminds before gently standing and setting Spencer on his feet. "I'm going to go set your breakfast out; why don't you go wash up hmnn?" Matthew suggested knowing how much good cold water to heated teary eyes could be.
