Thanks, so if this is happening on Windows, try checking the following in order of likelihood (based on common issues I've seen in the past):
1) AV, or Anti-Malware software falsely flagging/blocking the game which would explain the game starting up with a black screen and then closing immediately before anything could be loaded. Your AV software and/or checking Windows Event logs would be able to confirm if this is the case. You can make an exception for the game or temporarily pause the AV to confirm this.
2) Storage: Make sure the game isn't installed on a USB device, or removable storage as this tends to cause issues. Additionally, make sure you aren't trying to play the game on a storage drive that is near capacity as assets are unpacked and loaded at game startup.
3) While rare, it's possible that some persistent data from the old game got corrupted as this stores stuff such as volume preferences, window resize, etc. All versions of the game use the same save location so to remedy this, navigate to the following directory and delete the file named "persistent".

If the above doesn't work or aren't applicable. Check to see if a TRACEBACK.txt or error log was generated in the game's root directory. Feel free to share the file here or PM it to me privately as this file helps tremendously in troubleshooting (if successfully generated).
