“Good, because there's no excuse for not requesting help if you're not keeping up with your schedule. I've told you that enough times that I shouldn't have to repeat it. You can come to me at any time and let me know if something is giving you problems or going to slow you down.”

As Alfred starts to fill his plate with the barbecued beef tips, he motions for Alexa to hurry and take her seat.

“Come on, now, Alexa. Your dinner's going to get cold.”

“It is. Jacques makes a mean barbecue, it seems. He tells me that it's a southern recipe that uses mustard as a main ingredient. I'm quite impressed with it.”

Alfred cuts away pieces of meat with his knife, slipping each succulent sliver into his mouth to savor as he watches his slave across from him start to eat.

“After dinner, bring your homework to me to look over, and then we'll talk about my plans for tomorrow. I'm having a house party, and I'll expect you to be on your best behavior, young lady. You will have some duties at the start of the party, but I'll want you to mingle and socialize towards the end. I want you to be treated as a daughter, not as a servant.”

Alexa took a few, careful bites and her eyes started to shine. "It IS delicious", she said stunned. Then, she looked at her master to listen closely. "I will give my very best Sir", she said weakly, already thinking about how to talk her way out of the homework thing.

“Good girl.”

Alfred winks at the girl across from him, pleased that she enjoys the dish that Jacques prepared for them. Wiping some of the sauce away from his lips, though, he returns his eyes to the girl to continue the conversation.

“Also, we'll be leaving town again in a few days, probably after your next schooling session with Jennifer. I'll inform her ahead of time so she can prepare your homework for the trip.”

Alfred shakes his head slowly while he continues to eat.

“Not entirely sure just yet. I'm still working on collecting some intel on that before arranging our travel plans. We might not know until the last minute, so keep a few things packed that will serve as general purpose clothing. Assume that you're packing for both a warm climate and cold, so you'll be ready for either possibility.”

"Yes, of course Sir", Alexa answered and continued eating. She wished she could eat forever so she won't be able to show her homework.

Alfred smiles to the girl and continues eating, occasionally making a pleased sound as he enjoys the meal that's been prepared for him. Soon, though, his plate is empty, and he leans back into his chair making happy sounds to himself.

“Ah, that was good. Go ahead and finish eating, and then help Jacques clear the table. When you're done, come see me in my study and I'll look over your homework for you. We'll see if you're having any problems.”

He gives a silent nod to Jacques as he stands, and then exits the dining room to head to his personal study for some brief privacy before Alexa comes to see him. He still has some things to think about, and he doesn't want to burden the slavegirl with his problems.
