The Martial Arts Student

Jun stood outside the training room just as the regular students left. She had been send by her former master to this women to learn "real", potentially deadly martial arts, but she didn´t like what she saw. This seemed like any other small dojo. The kids sure didn´t seem to take things as serious as she did here, chattering and laughing as they left the changing room to meet their parents. They ignored the unaturally serious twelve year old who was staring into the big door that lead into the training room from the hall. Jun had no interest in them either. She was wearing a regular training suit with sweatpants and sports shoes. Her black hair was formed into a ponytail, which gave her a somewhat severe appearance. "Ehem...", she said a bit loudly, trying to get the woman who worked heres attention. Jun was already good, but to perfect her "craft" she would have to learn from several masters...and this spot in the US was the next stop on her way.

The woman that Jin was trying to get the attention of was a twenty-two year old white american woman with also with back hair that was currently tied into a ponytail to keep it from getting in the way wearing a dark blue and black karate gi with a black belt wrapped around her waist demonstrating her level of skill with nothing covering her feet. Her name was Rosie Ross. Hearing the sound of a throat being cleared Rosie turns around to see Jun. "May I help you?" She asks not knowing Jun by appearance just yet.

(sorry for a bit of a wait replying to the story. Got sick with the flu the last couple of days.)

"Yeah, I am Jun Nishikawa and `ve been send to train with you!", the girl replied firmly and offered a handhshake. It seemed weird to see a child so serious, espacially in contrast with the frolicking other children. It was hard to guess how old she was and Jun didn´t exactly spread the word that she was only twelve, by the time already being a black belt. People tended to take her less serious then. "Want a demonstration?", she asked then, cracking her knuckles.

Seeing the handshake, Rosie reaches out and accepts it before she is then challenged by Jun which honestly was a bit surprised to see how eager Jun seems to be at trying to prove her skills. While beating around the bush wasn't a issue, Rosie would've at least liked to have gotten to know the young martial arts prodigy but it was also a good thing to get this out of the way. "Very well then." Rosie said stepping onto the black karate mat and getting into position and waiting for Jun to do the same.

Juns handshake was firm, almost painfully so. It seemed like she was a tough kid. When Rosie went over to the mat Jun made a casual flip and then got rid of her sports jacket and shoes. "Its saver that way.", she said and shrugged. Then the kid cracked her knuckles again and got into a fighting stance. She looked Rosie in the eye as if trying to guess her next move, before doing a little kick to her mid section, testing out her opponents strength but still trying to gain the momentum needed for victory. At least she wasn´t blatently overconfident, knowing the importance of concentration and looking for the right moment to score a hit.

Rosie was surprised at how firm the handshake was that Jun gave her. She definitely seems like quite the prodigy although Rosie could definitely still see some signs of how Jun could grow more as a person rather than just a martial artist. Once the two of them were on the mat, Rosie took a few deep breaths while Jun got herself ready. Their spar starts with Jun doing a kick to Rosie's mid-section. Rosie took the hit mostly to try and see how much damage Jun could do with her kicks. "Not bad..." Rosie compliment the young prodigy as she prepares herself for anything else that Jun wants to try so Rosie could learn her fighting style.

"You know your supposed to dodge or block, right?", the young prodigy said arrogantly, not liking that she did so little damage, alltough she hadn´t kicked with full strength. She tried a stronger high and spinning kick, combining the three attacks in a hurricane like manner. Apparently she wasn´t at all afraid to fight an adult, tough she was only twelve. Jun liked to fight, and she did so with passion and gusto, that much was certain. Just maybe she lacked disciplin.

"There are infinite number of ways to handle a fight, this is just my way." Rosie explained as she blocks the second high kick and then watches as Jun attempts a spinning heel kick. Instead of blocking it like she has done with the last two kicks, Rosie instead leans back enough to avoid the spin kick. "Well it seems you are at least well-trained and skilled." Rosie commented while she wanted to see more of what Jun can do.

"Strange way to fight...its almost isn´t a real fight", Jun said shrugging after getting some distance between herself and her enemy. She then quickly crossed the distance again with a jump and another quick and strong kick. Now it almost seemed like she was doing Savate, the french art of kickboxing, which relied almost exclusively on kicks. But it just was easier to fight this way when your opponent had a better reach. That gave her an idea. Jun tried a punch for once, wondering if her "enemy" would attack her at all. "Thanks, so are you fighting me for real?", she asked a bit annoyed by the others passivity.

As the fight continues on, Rosie was doing her best to learn as much as she could about Jun's fighting style. She notices that Jun was now doing almost nothing but kicks which she notices what art she was using. "Savate, huh? Looks like you really are well-trained." Rosie comment. Seeing the punch did stun her planned action but thankfully Rosie manages to devise a plan as she immediately moves out of Jun's line of sight and then swept her legs out from underneath her. "Has anyone ever told you that a fight is a marathon? Keep your emotions in check and pace yourself." Rosie advised her after being asked if she was fighting for real.
