"We can go shopping today, Daddy. See my dress is dark green, I'm not sure what color Andy's is but we can't clash and that blue is just too.... much." She said.

Hector ate some pancake that his Mommy cut up for him and tried to get into the conversation. He turned to Cassia.

"Are you going to a party with Daddy?" the little boy asked. Then he turned to his other sister. "Andy, are you going too?"

There was a pause and then Hector asked, "Am I going?"

"It is a ball, Hector. Not really a party, no games, just dancing. Andy is going. But, it is a Daddy daughter ball, kid. You are neither a daddy nor a daughter... unless you have been hiding something from us." She turned the last bit into a joke so he wouldn't be disapointed.

"Ok, ok," said Danile, defeated. "If niether one of my dates wants me to wear my favorite tux, I won't." He turned to Mel. "Tell you what, since the girls just need shoes, oh and Cassia's jeans, we can split up. I'll take Lucy and Ethel here and we can shop for a new tux for me." He looked pointedly at the girls. "One you'll BOTH approve of, and you can take Slugger here because you said he needs several things. You're better at that than I am." And it was true. The last time HE had taken Hector clothes shopping he had accidently grabbed three packaged of Wonder Woman Underoos instead of Power Rangers.

"That's fine with me," said Mel, wiping some syrup from Hector's chin. "and then maybe we girls can get a manicure or something while you boys play video games."She turned to look at Hector. "Don't worry Buddy," she said. "the night of the ball you and I will have our own MoMommy/son day. We'll go for ice cream and then see a movie. Just the two of us. What do you think?"

Hector had gotten swimmy-looking eyes at the thought that his sisters and Daddy were going to be doing something without him, but he felt much better when his Mommy said that they would have a special Mommy/son day. Hector loved ice cream and the movies, although he sometimes got bored half way through a picture unless there was a lot of noise and action.

He pulled away when Mommy wiped his mouth and said, "I don't like to go shopping, Mommy it's so boring. Can Daddy and I play video games FIRST?"

"No Sweetie," said Mel. "We're going to get the shopping out of the way first. Look at it this way: you don't want to play video games knowing you're going to have to stop to go SHOPPING soon do you? Wouldn't you rather get the shopping out of the way first? You know, save the best for last."

Hector thought about it as he chewed another mouthful of pancake, wiping his mouth on his sleeve.

"Nuh uh," he said, "I think we should do some video games BEFORE we go shopping..." Then he added brightly, "...and then do MORE video games AFTER we go shopping!"

The little boy grinned up at his mother feeling very clever with that solution.

"Oh, I'm ready," sighed Danile sounding VERY put upon. The truth was he loved ANY time he spent with the kids, even *shudder* shopping. He finished up his breakfast. "I just hope YOU'RE ready."
