Steve made a sympathetic noise as Rafe came over to the couch. He'd waited patiently for the other to do as he'd asked and now he just felt terrible for the sad little look on the others face. "Hey Wolfie," he said softly, reaching to take the mahogany haired young man's hand in his own.

"Daddy's very sorry. He hasn't been very patient with you today, has he?" He asked rhetorically. This was going to be a big adjustment for them both. But he could do this. Would do anything for the other man.

"Listen honey, you scared me half to death when you just disappeared without saying anything. What were you even doing in the bathroom, huh? You know you might have slipped and busted your head wide open. Then you would have had to go to the hospital all over again."

He sighed softly, running a hand through his hair and mussing the dark locks in frustration.

"Rafe, Daddy has to do what's best for you now. Okay? So if you promise, promise me that you're going to try very hard to listen and do what I ask. Then I promise to be as patient and understanding as I can be."

He opened his arms, hoping the gray-blue eyed man would crawl into them. "Okay?"

Going over to the couch hadn't been what he wanted to do and he had almost turned and ran back upstairs but in the end Rafe actually did walk over to where Steve was sitting. He was looking away at first but as the other man started talking to him the mahogany haired young man eventually looked over at him.

But he still didn't say anything.

He did get something of a guilty look in his eyes when his daddy said that he had scared him since that wasn't something that he'd wanted to do. "I was hot and wanted to wash my face," Rafe replied even though what he had done was not what most people would consider having been washing anything.

He had more or less just been sticking his face in the water.

But it had felt good.

His gray-blue eyes once again focused on the man as his daddy started speaking to him again, the other listening quietly before nodding his head slightly. When the other man opened his arms he hesitated for a minute, since his feelings had been hurt, but after only a few moments he did end up crawling into the man's open arms.

Meanwhile the wolf from before was still discarded on the very same couch that they were sitting on.

Steve spent a long time simply hugging the other, fingers combing through his mahogany locks. He finally nodded his understanding, a soft smile coming to his face. "It's okay that you wanted to wash your face. What wasn't okay was just running off without me, and going into the bathroom alone, and getting water everywhere."

The blue eyed man grabbed the little stuffed wolf off of the couch, using it's soft nose to bop Rafe's little nose. They didn't cuddle like this often, so he was enjoying it now. "You didn't like your toy sweetness? I got it because it's a little wolf and you're my little Wolfie."

He smiled at the silly words, it was almost... well natural to be so sweet and loving with little Rafe like this.

"And dinner is ready now. So we can wash your face and your hands if you want." He paused, considering what the other had said more closely now that they'd had a minute of peace. "Are you too hot in these clothes? You want to put on pajamas before dinner?"

Rafe looked at Steve when the other man pointed out to him what it was that was wrong about what he had done, a somewhat guilty expression appearing in his expressive gray-blue eyes at that point. "'m sorry...wasn't trying to be bad," he said softly, still looking guilty.

When the wolf was used to boop his nose he did actually reach out and take it. "Was mad," he said honestly since that was why he'd left it on the couch to begin with. "And hurted," he added since his feelings had been hurt as well but he couldn't quite articulate that right now with his current little mindset.

"Uh huh, it's really hot," Rafe said when he was asked if he was hot in the clothes that he was wearing. He wasn't quite sure why it was that he was so hot but at least his damp hair was helpign a little bit with that.

"It's alright baby," Steve said, rubbing the other back a little with a soft smile. "I know you were mad. And you wanted what you wanted, but you're not the boss okay?" He was happy to see that the wolf toy was at least good enough to get a hug.

"Daddy is going to do what's best for you no matter what, even if you don't like it." He brushed the others hair back a little to kiss his forehead. "But I will try to explain it better. As long as you try your best to understand that sometimes I have to do things that you don't necessarily want."

The blue eyed man stood and offered his hand to his grey-blue eyed lover. "Let's get you some pajamas. Maybe you're too little to like your..." he paused to think how best to phrase it. "Your big boy clothes right now. I'll get you some better little clothes tomorrow if you like."

With that Steve started to lead the other back up to their bedroom.

"But I don't want you to do tings I don't like," Rafe said when Steve explained things to him, the mahogany haired young man pouting slightly as he said that. He didn't know why Steve would have to do things that he didn't like and so he felt the need to point out that he didn't want to go this route.

Not that it was likely to help the situation.

After it was established that he was too hot in the clothes that he was wearing Rafe took the hand that was being held out to him and got to his feet. "New clothes? I don' hafta go shopping do I?" Rafe immediately questioned, that idea not one that he liked. Which was sort of funny since the 'old' Rafe hadn't liked shopping either and had only gone when he absolutely had to. And even then he went to get what he needed and then he left, there was no casual shopping with him.

As he posed this question Rafe allowed himself to be led back upstairs to their bedroom, his eyes going to the open door of the bathroom.

"No more locking doors, right?" he asked as he looked over at Steve.

"Well I'm sorry to hear that," Steve said as they headed up the stairs. "But I'm going to do what I have to to keep you safe and healthy and as happy as you can be." He smiled softly but still looked down at the other. "And that's all I want to say about it. No more arguing please."

The blue eyed man laughed brightly at that. So like the Rafe he was used to. "I'll bring the tablet with me and you can watch a movie while I do the shopping. How does that sound?" It seemed like a good compromise since Steve couldn't exactly leave the other here with a sitter or anything.

He nodded sternly at the other when Rafe looked at the bathroom door. "That's right. You are absolutely not to lock any doors in the house Rafe Andrew. If I have to unlock a door to get you again, you will be an incredibly sorry little boy." He kissed the other's forehead gently to take the sting out of his words.

"Okay, hop up on the bed and we'll have dinner. I made grilled cheese and tomato soup. You'll like that," Steve smile softly as he headed to grab some pajamas, only grabbing one of his big t-shirts. It might be cooler for the other if he felt overheated. Soon Rafe was out of his 'big boy' clothes and into Steve's big shirt. Soooo cute.

A thought occurred to him and Steve felt the others forehead. "Are you hot with a fever sweet boy?"

Rafe issued a little huff but he didn't actually argue the point further because he was tired of fighting and didn't want Steven to be mad at him anymore. Of course his resolve not to fight anymore almost went out the window when he was told that they would get more clothes, which involved a shopping trip that Rafe didn't want to go on. He probably would have aruged that point but then his daddy said that he would bring that tablet and that served to placate him. "Okay," he agreed with a nod of his head.

The two made their way upstairs to the bedroom and when he looked over at the door he made the comment about the doors, pouting slightly when he was told that he'd be a very sorry little boy if he did that again. "Don't like that idea," he felt the need to say before climbing up onto the bed when he was told to do so. He helped as much as he could as Steve took off the clothes that he was wearing and he lifted his arms cutely so that the man could slide the oversized t-shirt over his head.

When Steve reached over to feel his forehead Rafe immediately pushed his hand away and shook his head. "Nuh uh, 'm not sick," he said, thinking that if he was sick then he'd end up back at the hospital or at the very least at the doctor's office.

Both of which he wanted to avoid.

"Was just hot," he added for good measure. "Can we have dinner now?" he asked by way of changing the subject, which was another thing that little kids were prone to doing whenever they didn't want to talk about something.

"Rafe let me feel you." Steve took the others hand, holding it to his side to for a moment to make his point before bringing his hand up to the the mahogany haired man's forehead. He made a noise of quiet sympathy and worry, bringing the hand down to cup the others cheek before kissing his noise with a smile. "We'll take your temperature after dinner. I think you feel warm."

He wanted to carry the other down the stairs, but was too afraid of dropping him. Steve took Rafe's hand again, heading for the kitchen. "And I meant what I said before. Daddy is really done hearing no for today. You don't have to like everything I do. You just have to do your best to be a good boy for me alright?"

The dark haired man sat the other at the table before setting a bowl of tomato soup and a grilled cheese cut into four small pieces in front of him. He set down the sippy cup and his own food before cracking open a bottled water and taking a long drink. What an incredibly long day. Hopefully Rafe didn't have a fever and they could just lay on the couch and spend some quiet time together.

"What movie would you like to watch with your ice cream Wolfie?" The man asked conversationally as he bit into his sandwich.

Rafe whined at Steve when the man forced the issue of feeling his forehead and said that they were going to take his temperature after dinner, the young man just sort of pouting at him. "Tolded you I'm not sick," he felt the need to point out before allowing himself to be led from the bedroom and back downstairs to the kitchen. His gray-blue eyes focused on the other man as he was once again scolded for his penchant for telling the other man no.

Which he thought he should be able to do.

"But...but..." Rafe started to argue but then he changed his mind and just nodded his head, going to sit down at the table. He looked down at the food that was placed in front of him for a moment, debating whether or not he was going to eat it, but in the end he was a little bit hungry so he started eating slowly.

And he picked up the sippy cup and took a drink from it without a second thought.

His gaze shifted back to Steven when his boyfriend turned daddy asked the question about the movie but he just shrugged his shoulders. "Already tolded you I didn' want ice cream no more," he said quietly since they had already had that talk while they were in the car. And while it was just because he was upset at the time Rafe was a stubborn little thing and so he was sticking to that even now.

Despite the fact that he had loved ice cream even before the accident that had caused his mind to regress.
