Yep, from what I remember the first town should have a couple scenes with some of the characters.
If you want the specifics, both of the girls in the inn, the matron and maria all have scenes with the
rod.

In the first/starting city, go to the 'cheat room' by the N side exit (door/passageway with a grill on it). There's a cheat in the room that starts you at the time/area where the rod is finished.

The mirror world thing is a trick, the chairs are all wrong. Are there any other carpets you can stand on and select something? -_^

iirc (maybe), you have to get the quest to give a message to the daycare? From the house just above the daycare. I think, as that's the person who you have to give it to.

And to put it together, I think it's the altar behind the haunted mansion. Might be buggy? I used the cheat room instead as I never found the bushes they maid mentions for a rod piece.

BTW. where is that door/hidden space the maid mentions, iirc the clue was between two bushes? Never finished that part.

She should be there, sure didn't load another save or already done the Rose amulet? I just started a new game, and she's there as soon as you enter the North town.

Thanks for the bushes.... never would have found them heh. For the Dog if you're still stuck, DON'T head North after it takes off. Go S and follow right away and you won't lock up. Then it's a hunt... which I lost after the 2nd hiding place in the outpost heh.
