Fabiana giggled a bit. Now this was more the kind of experience that she was looking for! "Well if the nuns and monks give us too hard of a time, we'll threaten to reduce crown gifts to the church. But let's try not to get caught anyways. Alla tua salute!" With that, Fabiana raised a bottle of whiskey in the air, removed the cork, and took a heavy swig of it. She was not prepared for this strong whiskey, as she had previously only had small glasses of wine at meals. The expression on her face contorted a little but she forced herself to drink it down. "Good stuff," she said in a much more gravely voice as she passed the bottle to Anian.

Anian had to stifle a laugh. "It seems the fair lady has swallowed something she wishes she hadn't. Be warned, this stuff takes getting used to. It's far stronger than the watery juice you lowlanders call drink." He took a swig from his own bottle, before replacing it on the rack. "I have enjoyed our revelries, but I believe it is time to return to our surely drunken fathers. We cannot stay away forever." He led her out of the caverns and back through the winding halls of that fortress. Being used to the drink, he was relatively unaffected, but could see a sway in Fabiana's step. He didn't say anything, however, as the little sway she was doing accentuated her backside nicely.

"Watery juices," Fabiana said as she swayed through the hallway hardly taking notice of Aymer. "You wouldn't know high culture wine if it hit you in the face! Rossclo has the best wine! Still... we should... we should do this again sometime, and I'll take small (hic) smaller drinks."

Anian laughed. "It seems that your country piss-water has left you ill prepared for the drinking of more hardy relaxants. As for your fine wines, a drink is judged by one thing: how much your head hurts the morning after."

They soon reached the great hall, with the two kings laughing and singing some old war song. Had they not been drunker than a sailor with no boat, Anian might have worried about the state he was bringing Fabiana back in, but he decided that there was no worry to be had.

Fabiana was about to loudly disagree with Anian, but she saw her father and held her tongue. Fabiana straightened herself up and said in a more steady voice, "Hello, father, are you discussing the date of our wedding with the good king?" She knew that Anian had just said that his own father would not be so rushed to have the ceremony, but if she was to live in this place, at least she could be a ruler in it.

Her father was quite well-drunk himself, but said, "Fabiana! Yes, we were just bout to get down to that! You know that one must... mustn't rush such business though! And... shpeaking of rushing, you haven't been doin' anything you shouldn't?"

"Father, don't insult my honor!" Fabiana said as she moved toward him and almost tripped over her own feet but managed to steady herself on the table.

Though usually such a damning misstep would have brought much anger from the two kings, today, and in this state, it elicited nothing but laughter. "My boy, it seems your lady is suffering from a nasty bout of tipsiness. I would suggest you make sure she recovers before the court meets tomorrow."

Bowing formally to the two kings, Anian took Fabiana the arm once more and lead her back into the castle. "I will say, that could have gone far worse." He looked at your swaying figure and smiled. "I will show you to your guest quarters. I'll have maids draw you a bath and bring something to sooth your head. There will be a full court tomorrow to hear the official announcement, so you must be ready."

"Oh good," Fabiana sighed. "Court." Of course, perhaps court would not be so bad here. She had never liked having to spend all day in court back in Rossclo because it meant that she'd be locked inside all day. At least here being inside was often more pleasant than outside. Furthermore she'd also get a feel for all the local nobility and gossip, which could be fun if there weren't too many strict old women in the crowd.

"Lead the way then, we must prepare."

They arrived outside of Fabiana's temporary quarters, which Anian assured her are quite spacious. He spoke up. "I am afraid I must leave you here, as to enter a private chamber with you now would be scandalous. Until tomorrow..." He knelt and kissed her hand, before turning and moving away.

The next morning, the courtroom was packed with nobles, ladies, and other people of note from all over the mountain kingdom. The announcement had been anticipated for months, and all wanted to be in attendance, some out of true respect, others out of want of favor with the new royal couple. Anian entered the chamber three paces behind his father, after the crowd had already gone silent. Fabiana was seated to the right of the thrones, and her father stood next to Anian's.

Fabiana did not like the looks of these nobles. They were all much paler than most of those from back home. Would they have anything interesting to talk about? Still, she silently took her seat and stared forward as she was supposed to do.

The business of the court got underway, the whole room waiting for the formalities to be over in order to begin the main event. Soon, with the necessary deeds done, Fabiana was called up to the raised throne, to Anian and his father's right. Her father also approached the raised dias, standing next to the king. Anian's father made the official announcement to the court, which erupted into great applause.
