Jade was a 6 year old orphan stuck in the middle of a war; wanting a safe place to go. One day as she ran through the forest being chased by villagers for stealing food, the child was knocked unconscious and left for the enemy soldiers to kill or do what they wished with. Little did Jade know she had been rescued by one of the soldiers on her side, taken to the inn he ran to be cared for and raised.

And this... is their story.

Roger Smith, the soldier who saved the girl, was already at the inn, waiting for her to wake up. He was a tall and muscular man, which had a stern look on his face, all the time. His black hair wasn't messy and his blue eyes were clear as they looked at the girl.

She seemed so small and helplessly, he didn't have another choice as to save her, at least in his opinion. But now, he wasn't sure what to do.

He never cared for a child before and wondered what it would be like, wanting for her to wake up.

Jade stirred, still half unconscious. She suddenly squeaked a frightened sound and sat up in a panic, thinking she was still at the hands of the villagers. Her tense body language was enough to show she was scared. She looked at the man for a moment, blinking several times. "W-who are y-you?" She stammered, sounding nervous. She then noticed his stern expression. The same expression the army commanders of the enemies had. She backed up a bit, nearly falling off of the bed she had been put into. "W-where am I-I?! W-what h-happened?! Owww... my head...."

She settled down a little as she rubbed the large bruise on her head that the villages shopkeeper had left her with after she stole from him.

Roger smiled at her. "My name is Roger Smith, I saved you from the man who took you with them", he explained calmly. "Do you know what you name is? And where do you come from?", he asked intersted.

Jade smiled back nervously, but tilted her head, continuing to rub it. "M-my name is Jade... And... I come from my mommy? Where else would I come from?" Jade asked innocently.

Roger looked at her confused. "Well...I meant the part of the city where you lived.", he said amused and looked at her. She seemed so innocent, well, she was only about 5 or 6 years old if he was right. "

Jade looked sad when where she lived was mentioned. "My village was destroyed first in the war... Mommy tried to stop the enemy soldiers and hid me.... but they killed her. I had to run away from the village since they took it over almost a year ago." She said sadly, looking down.

Jade shook her head, looking sad. "N-no... My d-daddy was a horrible traitor. He's the reason o-our village was a-attacked and my mommy d-died... He h-hated me anyways..." Jade mumbled, looking down at her hands. "A-and I don't have a-any other family I-I know of..."
