Homeless orphan (For ChapelRessurect)

[Little Sayuri]

Elizabeth, short Lizzy, was walking through the streets, looking around for a place to stay, her long black hair swinging in the light breeze. It was after sunset and the city slowly started calming down, the people started heading from work to their home or into a bar. Soon, the streets where empty and no one where around except the 13-year old girl. She walked through a park nearby, sighing in awe. This night was just beautiful! The stars up in the sky blinked like hundreds of diamonds and the moon was up and illuminated the sky.

Elizabeth kept wandering through the fresh air and inhaled the different scents all around. Flowers, trees, and some scents that she couldn’t define at the moment. Soon, she felt cold and decided to look around for a nice tree to climb on and just sleep. She was too afraid that someone would murder or worse, rape her if she would sleep somewhere on the ground. It just took a few beers for a man to make a girl’s life miserable or to end it and Elizabeth didn’t want to risk her life for a place to sleep.

Being an orphan, she had no money and so she wandered from village to village to find a job so she would be able to pay for her food instead of stealing it. Until now she didn’t have much success, and so she searched for a place to sleep like every day. She kind of accepted that there was no hope at the moment and managed to barely survive with her stealing. “Someday it’ll get better…”, she mumbled, as she started climbing up a tree. She sat down in the treetop and started to make herself comfy there.

The last remnants of twilight was escaping the streets, a woman was beginning to worry about getting home soon. She decided it would be best to cut through the park and maybe shave a few minutes off her trip. The quicker she got home the better to her. She seemed about 27-years old, but that of course could just be part of how she appeared; dressing herself in a female's business pant-suit with briefcase in hand and glasses resting on the tip of nose.

Bouncing as she was in a bit of a small run, she was huffing like she had been for quite some time. She looked down at her inner wrist, checking the face of the watch she had there. "Kyah.. So late. I have to get home and make dinner." She stopped and bent over a little, trying to catch her breath under the park's path light.

The slightest rustle of leaves a few trees over grabbed her attention. She kept looking in that direction, confidant nothing was there however. A different rustle of foliage came from behind her and made her turn to look. Her heightened senses from the adrenaline of running was keeping her senses keen but she still saw nothing. She, in her mind though, was quite worried.

Elizabeth was about to lay down and go to sleep as she heard someone nearing her tree. She stood up again and carefully climbed on one of the branches to look who it was. To her relief, it was a woman who seemed to be no danger for her.

The girl sighed in relief and watched her amused, as she turned around and searched from where the noise that Lizzy made came from. She decided to play the woman a little prank and continued to make some noises, but started hiding as soon as the woman started to look into her direction.

The woman turned to new sound and shouted "Who's there?!" into the eerily quiet park. She turned again to the sound of leaves moving again but decided to take a deep breath, calming herself. She looked over to the tree were she was convinced someone was. Shaking her head to dismiss the notion, she finally calmed and stood up straight. "Just my imagination-"

But the poor woman was right to be so afraid. As if on cue, a shadow seemed to leap out from the nowhere next to her and tackle her onto the ground, just out of the light the lamp provided. The echo of a scream and struggle shot through the park for no more then a second but then a chilling sound of flesh tearing, blood splattering, tendon ripping, and bone cracking filled the air and all was silent. Soft sounds of drinking and chewing filled the air after a few moments. Where she was, behind a shrub along the manicured path, was dark and nothing but the woman's feet, one shoe missing from the impact, could be seen; as well as a slowly expanding pool of blood beneath her.

The girl giggled but suddenly went silent as she heard the woman scream and the

Elizabeth watched the scene in horror. She wanted to help the woman, but wasn't sure how to do it and so she just sat in the tree and watched what happened, horrified. What was that? And why did it kill the poor woman?!

Elizabeth went totally silent and looked around, wondering if she would be next.

The sound of feasting continued to fill the air as the shadow ate to its delight. After not much time though, it felt the need for more. Slowly turning, it looked about and spot the circulatory system in the dead of night in a nearby tree. A low, deep breathing sound echoed through the air now as it moved along not making any other sounds at all. It haunched itself over its new, unsuspecting prey and dropped the blood covered secretary glasses the woman had on earlier into the small girl's lap. Above all else, it favored to toy with its meals.

"What happened?! I heard a scream? Miss? Are you around?!" A local police officer ran up to the scene, having been drawn from the other side of the park. He wielded a flashlight with a hand on the gun in his holster just in case. "Is anyone here?" he asked thinking aloud.

Elizabeth winced as she saw the glasses in her lap. So she would die shortly too, great. The girl started to shudder and looked around carefully, preparing for what would happen soon, but suddenly she head a man. She looked down and spotted a police officer.

"Maybe I'm able to get to him before I will be killed...I have to try it at least", she thougth and jumped down as fast as a flash. "HELP!!!", she screamed and went over to the man.

The officer quickly shifted his light over to the voice and ran to the girl, falling to a knee to better address her. "Little girl, what are you doing out here so late? Was that scream from around here?" he had a million questions for her but looked up to the tree he saw her fall out of. A pair of narrowed yellow eyes were peering back. He jumped back in surprise and pulled the girl behind him. "Who- What is that?" he asked Lizzy, drawing his weapon.

Lizzy hide behind the officer and couldn't stop shaking for now. "I don't know but it killed a woman that was walking through the park! I saw it...it was horrible", she told him, her voice thick with tears. She felt a bit safer, now, that a police officer was with her. Of course he would be the next maybe and it would just postpone her death for a few moments, but she didn't want to think about that now. She wanted to think that he had a weapon and would kill this monster for sure.

The shadow was watching as the officer fumbled with his gun and pulled it out to point at the creature. It moved slowly along the branch and looked like it coiled down the thick trunk to the ground, moving slowly along the ground. The officer shouted something at it but it did not care in the slightest. After continuing to disregard the threats and failing to comply with the demands, the officer opened fire a few times but didn't hit anything near it. The next thing that happened seemed a flash. The shadow moved past the officer to just in front of the girl and slashed open the abdomen of the man. He reeled back in pain but the creature now saw the weapon it sought. Using the very organs of the man, the creature reached into him and yanked out the intestine till the tissues holding it all in place snapped effortlessly. Being dragged along the park back to the tree the officer tried to radio for help but was quickly pulled up the tree to fill the night air with painful wails. After a minute, the officer's body fell but stopped mid air, being hung by his own intestine about his neck.
