Gareth walked into the jail, past the Hedradan guards stern and unyielding in their perfectly forged armor as befited the servants of the god of unyielding law. Gareth himself wore only plain clothes emblazoned with the symbol of Corean, his god, on his back. But he still carried a sword at his side, for he was as much a holy warrior as the guards (though some might have said otherwise). He wore his dark hair cut short so as not to give an opponent something to grab, and his green eyes were sharp and piercing.

"I wish to see the girl." He told the guards. "As a Knight of Mithril I order you to release her into my custody."

The guards' expressions couldn't be seen through their helmets, but it was obvious that this was highly unusual. "Very well." One said. "She is on the first level, petty crimes, third cell on the right."

Gareth nodded, heading in the direction the guard had indicated. He soon came upon the cells where minor criminals were held pending trial, and stopped at the third on the right.

"Hello." He said. "Do you recognize me?"

"Gareth!" Luna exclaimed, hardly believing that he was really there. "What are you doing here?" Her long, purple hair was a mess around her and her normally bright blue eyes had dark rings under them from the sleepless night she had spent in the cell. She tucked her hair behind her pointed ears and looked up at Gareth meekly. She didn't know why he was here, but she hoped it was good news. She'd been arrested for turning herself invisible to sneak into the palace. Unfortunately, the spell wore off as soon as she got in, right in front of the guards, and she'd been quickly apprehended.

"So you do know who I am." The man said as he opened the cell door. "Unsurprising since I'm the one who caught you. Well, I have good news and bad news."

He pulled up a chair. "The good news is you are only charged with criminal trespassing, not abuse of magic. That would have you doing some time."

He let that sink in for a moment. "However, we can't have a spellcaster of such obvious if unschooled talent running around causing trouble, so you are not being freed exactly. Instead you are being released into an apprenticeship under me. I'm going to train you to be a Mithril Knight of The Gold Order. A mageknight."

With his left hand behind his back he prepared a spell that could do one of two things, depending on how she took the news.

"So what? You're basically adopting me to teach me magic? That doesn't sound so bad," Luna said, her ears giving a slight twitch of excitement. "Let's get out of here then." She eagerly got up and started heading for the cell door. Her parents had died a little over a year ago and she'd been on her own ever since. She had been sneaking into the palace to try to sleep in one of the extra rooms on a cold night and perhaps find something to eat.

"One moment." Gareth said as he finished the spell. Instantly her clothes were clean and mended, free of the grim of her cell.

"Now before I let you out I want to make a few things clear." He told the half-elf girl. "First, you are to train hard to develop your sorcerer abilities. One day the safety of the citizens of Mithril will depend on you. Second, you are to obey me and not talk back. The Gold Order is no place for show-offs or loose cannons. Any disobedience on your part will earn you a trip over my knee."

Luna looked down at her mended clothes and smiled. "Okay, you've gotta teach me that trick," she said with a smirk. She listened as he told her the rules, but when he mentioned the consequences of disobedience her expression quickly changed. "Wait, what?! I'm sixteen years old! You can't do that to me," she said, looking highly offended that he would even suggest such a thing.

"I know that half-elves like you age a bit slower than humans, physically and mentally." Gareth told her. "In human years you're only twelve, at most. Anyway those are my rules. Either agree to them or stay in this cell."

Luna glared at him. "Oh, come on! That's so unfair!" she said, crossing her arms with a huff. She didn't want to stay in the cell, but she didn't want to agree to his rules either. She glanced towards the open cell door, stole a look at Gareth, and then made a break for it to try to run past him out the door.

Gareth grabbed her and easily lifted her into the air. "Looks like we'll start with the punishments right now." He carried her over to a chair, sat down, and put her over his lap. With practiced ease he pinned her right wrist to her back with one hand, and with the other began to pull her pants down.
