Default Diplomatic Immunity {for animefangirl}

The life of a diplomat was stressful enough but Tricia Foster was quickly learning that trying to balance that hectic and often harrowing job with raising a teenage son who had gotten it into his head that he was above the law was on a completely different scale. She had tried talking to him, she had tried grounding him but nothing that she tried seemed to get through to the boy and finally she'd had enough. That was when she decided that she was going to replace the bodyguard that kept losing him with someone that might actually be able to keep the boy in line. It was for that reason that Tricia had sought out someone with a particular mindset and she was pretty sure that she had found that in Joseph Blake. After talking to the man and giving him fair and ample warning about her little terror Tricia had hired the man, now the only thing that was left to do was introduce him to Jared.

That was likely to be an adventure all on its own seeing as the boy had a fiercely independent streak, hence why he was always ditching his current bodyguard. A fact that left Tricia both frantic and frustrated since her line of work made both her and her son a target and she didn't want to lose him after having lost his father to this profession. So he was getting the bodyguard whether he wanted one or not and she was confident that she had found someone that could keep pace with him and hopefully get him back on the right track since he was a good boy at heart, just misguided.

Jared was really not happy to be called to his mother's office this early on a Saturday, mainly because he'd managed to sneak out to a party the night before so not only was he tired but he also had a killer hangover. Yes it was illegal for the fourteen year old to be drinking, technically, but the kid knew about this wonderful thing known as diplomatic immunity and he of course used that to his full advantage. No matter what he did he knew that he wasn't going to get into trouble for it and he also knew that all he had to do was give his mother that pitiful look that all kids became adept at from an early age and she couldn't stay mad at him. And even if she could all she did was ground him and he was really good at sneaking out so that wasn't an issue. Dressed in loose fitting black pants and a t-shirt Jared looked like he'd just rolled out of bed as he entered his mom's office without bothering to knock. His blue eyes quickly scanned the room and he noticed that there was a stranger there with his mother and he didn't really like the looks of this, not the least little bit.

"I'm going to get straight to the point Jared, this is your new bodyguard Joseph Blake," Tricia told the boy when he looked at her with that questioning look in his eyes. She then looked at her new employee and said, "Mr. Blake this is my son Jared."

Jared just scowled at the man and then gave his mother an 'I can't believe you did this' look as he flat out said, "I already told you that I don't need a damn bodyguard. I do just fine without one and it's not like he'll be able to keep up with me anyway, you're just wasting his time and your money."

Joseph Blake had never expected that he would ever become the personal bodyguard/babysitter for a diplomats brat. He used to be a cop but with the current economy they decided that they had to let some of the younger guys go so he'd gotten laid off and couldn't find work anywhere else. So the 27 year old man had seen the add up at the station asking for a bodyguard for a fourteen year old boy. He'd been a bit desperate so he answered the add and was a little intrigued when the woman asked him to come in for an interview and then flat out told him that her boy was becoming a little terror and she was worried about him since nothing she could do seemed to work with him. He had of course heard similar stories hundreds of time, hell he'd arrested kids with the same sort of problems but that of course wasn't an option for this particular boy thanks to his mothers diplomatic immunity. So he heard Tricia out and by the end he felt bad for her if he were being honest. He could tell she really loved her son and that he was worrying her, and after discussing things further he agreed to accept the formal position as the kids bodyguard but also to accept an authority role in the teenagers life. What surprised him was that Tricia turned over all authority for the teen to him, and gave him permission to do whatever he felt was necessary to help get the boy back on the right path. It would have been very easy for someone to abuse a right like that, but Joseph actually liked kids and he wasn't all that much older than Jared anyway so it wasn't like he couldn't relate to the kid so he wasn't going to do anything to hurt the boy.

They met several more times before she formally hired him and he showed up at her house early Saturday morning to meet his new charge. He was standing off to one side of the room in the typical 'bodyguard' position and looked over at the black haired teen when he arrived, noticing how he looked like he just rolled out of bed and having to force himself not to roll his eyes at the kids appearance, reminding himself that Jared was a teen and that just made him predisposed to the whole disheveled look. HE waited patiently as Tricia introduced him to the teen and told him that he was the new body guard and he nodded when she turned around to introduce him to Jared. "Nice to meet you, Jared" he said politely, mainly just because he had to and then he frowned when the teen just scowled at him and then his mother and spoke to her in a very disrespectful way that just grated on Josephs nerves. He'd been raised to treat women with respect and to treat his mama with more respect than any other woman, so it just didn't sit well with him to stand aside while the kid disrespected his mom. "Watch your language, kid. THat's your mother, she deserves your respect" He said, his voice a little barking and there was clear authority in it from years of practicing when he was on the force. He waited then to see what Jared was going to say or do in response, not glancing at Tricia since he knew she wouldnt' mind him stepping in since she was the one that told him she wanted him to work with Jared to help him get over these issues of his so that was what he was doing now.

If he had known that this was what his mother wanted with him then he never would have came, he would have stayed in bed and nursed his hangover since his head was currently pounding rather unmercifully and definitely not to a beat that he could dance to. Because of that if for no other reason he was not in a good mood when he met with his mom and this new idiot that she'd hired to follow him around, as though he really even needed anyone to follow him around, Jared of course maintaining that he did just fine on his own. Of course that was in the eye of the beholder since he usually managed to find trouble for himself when he was on his own but he got a thrill out of that and of course there was nothing that the authorities could do to him aside from hand him back to his mother who never did anything save for lecture and ground him so he had no reason not to cause trouble. Not that he was thinking about any of that as his mother introduced him to the guy, Jared just giving him a look and then sort of ranting at his mom since he did not think that this was necessary and he flat out told her that it was a waste.

Needless to say Jared was surprised when Joseph told him to watch his language, reminding him that Tricia was his mother and that got a snort and roll of the eyes from the boy. "Really? I would never have figured that one out if you weren't here, thanks for that input," Jared told him sarcastically before looking at his mom once again. "You can't be serious Mom, this guy's an ass and I don't need a babysitter."

Tricia looked at Joseph when the man scolded her son for the way that he had spoken to her and then she looked to Jared when the kid rudely responded to that and then went on to sort of rant at her again. "A babysitter is exactly what you need Jared. I love you but I've had enough of your behavior, it's going to stop here and now. And Joseph is here to make sure of that," she told him, her tone firm which wasn't uncommon for her since she was a very take charge person, except when it came to disciplining her son and there she would fully admit that she was lax, which had most likely been a mistake.

"I'm done," Jared said when he heard that, the boy turning and walking out of the office, one hand going up to rub at his temple since his head was really pounding now. Having every intention of going back to bed the teen made his way toward the staircase, trying really hard to ignore the churning of his stomach and hoping that he didn't end up revisiting the alcohol from the previous night in a most unpleasant way. "Okay...gotta figure out how to avoid this in the future," he muttered to himself as he climbed the stairs back to his room, which thankfully had thick, black curtains so the room was mercifully dark. "Can't believe she actually said that I need a babysitter," he grumbled as he flopped onto the bed again.

Tricia wasn't really surprised when her son decided to walk out on her, a sigh leaving her lips as she turned toward Joseph and said, "That's what you have to look forward to Mr. Blake, he's all yours." She was really hoping that the bodyguard she'd hired could do something with Jared since she knew that her son was a good kid at heart, he was just taking the whole teenage rebellion thing way too far, mainly because he could and could get away with it owing to her status as a diplomat.

Joseph had been warned about the teens attitude, so in all fairness to Tricia she had tried to tell him, but he was still somewhat surprised when he saw the way that the teenager was treating his mother. And since the woman had given him authority over disciplining the teen and reforming him he spoke up and told the kid he needed to show his mother more respect than that, and his eyes narrowed ever so slightly when the teen made his sarcastic comment and then called him an ass. Since the kid addressed Tricia that time he held his tongue and waited for the woman to answer the teen, almost wincing when the woman told the teen that he did need a babysitter since Joseph knew how well that would go over with any teenager. Sure enough the boy got annoyed and announced that he was done before stalking out of the room and Jo was left alone with his new employer. He looked over at the woman when she told him what he had to look forward to and said he was all Joe's now, and the man nodded slightly before speaking with a firm, "He wont be treating you like that for long, he'll be back to apologize in a little while" he said, his voice having turned hard and he gave her a polite nod and then left the room to go track down his errant young charge and teach the kid that he'd best treat his mother with respect from this moment on.

It wasn't too hard to find the teens room and since he'd followed him fairly quickly he actually managed to hear the tail end of what the kid had to say and rolled his eyes. He let himself into the teens room without bothering to knock and walked over to yank the black drapes aside to let light into the room, walking over to the kids bedside and then he smelled the alcohol on the kid, not having noticed it earlier because the teen had been far away. "You know the legal drinking age is 21" He said, almost conversationally but there was a hard edge to his voice as he reached down and yanked the kid up by his arm, and then pulled him to his feet. "Move it. You're going to go to the kitchen and sit quietly at the table while I get you something to get rid of that hangover of yours, then you're going to apologize to your mother for the way you just treated her. She doesn't deserve that, especially not from you" He said, releasing the teens arm and gesturing towards the door to see if the teen would obey, fully intending on grabbing him and teaching him why it was a very bad idea to disobey him if the teen decided that he wanted to be a brat but for the moment he was trying to let Jared do the smart thing and obey on his own.

Tricia loved her son but she didn't know what to do with him and it was for that reason that she hired the bodyguard and gave him complete authority over her wayward son. Hearing Jared tell her that he didn't need a babysitter caused the woman to tell the teen that was exactly what he needed even if she was well aware of the fact that it wasn't going to go over at all well with him, Tricia watching as Jared said that he was done and then stalked out of the room. She turned her attention to Joesph at that point and told him that Jared was all his, nodding back when he nodded to her and sort of startled by the hard tone to his voice as he told her that Jared wouldn't speak that way to her for long and that the boy would be back to apologize in a little while. She wasn't sure that was the case since Jared wasn't really the type to apologize but she didn't argue and just said quietly, "I'll be here in my office if you need me." She wasn't sure if he'd need her but figured she should make it clear where he could find her if he did happened to require her for something.

Jared just wanted to go back to sleep since he hadn't wanted to get up in the first place so he made his way to his room after leaving his mother's office and plopped down on the bed, startled and then annoyed when the door of his room opened and the idiot bodyguard that his mother had hired walked in. He winced and issued a string of expletives when the curtains were pulled back, the light assaulting his eyes and causing his already pounding head to throb even harder in protest. "What the fuck?! Who the hell do you think you are, you can't just come in here!" Jared snapped at him and then yelped as he was suddenly grabbed by the arm and pulled to his feet, the man telling him the legal drinking age and that was enough to get a derisive snort out of Jared. "Legal for most people and legal for me are two totally different things," Jared told him in the same conversational tone, the kid trying to pull his arm free but not having much luck with it.

Being told to move it and what he was going to do just did not go over at all well with Jared, the kid narrowing his eyes and then immediately stepping away from Joseph when the man released the grip on his arm. "Let me tell you what I'm going to do. I'm going to go back to bed and you're going to go the hell away and leave me alone. I don't need or want your services so back the fuck off!" Jared told him, his tone snappish since he was not in a good mood right now and he didn't care if this guy knew that or not. Actually he wanted the guy to know that he was in a very bad mood so maybe he'd take the hint and just go the hell away like he was being told to do. Jared was of course under the impression that Joseph was going to be easy to walk on like all the other bodyguards that he'd been stuck with over the years and he was completely oblivious to just how much authority his mom had turned over to this guy but that was of course going to come as an unpleasant surprise.

Joseph could tell that Tricia loved her son, that much was obvious, but it was also obvious to him that she had spoiled the teenager rotten and that was just going to keep getting worse if she allowed it to fester for much longer. Luckily for her that wasn't going to matter because he was here now and he had been given the green light to do whatever it took to get the boy on the straight and narrow again, and he had made it clear to her just what his family's approach to discipline had always been. He'd expected her to rescind her offer to let him handle the teen at that point and was pleasantly surprised when that didnt' happen, and she just repeated that it was up to him. So he was going to make sure that he started off on a strong foot with the stubborn boy. He nodded to the woman when she said she'd be in her office, quietly thanking her and then walking out of the room to find his errant young charge and once he did he decided that nine in the morning was plenty late enough for him to have slept in so he yanked the kids curtains open and then pulled him out of bed. Of course he noticed the teens breath smelled like alcohol once he was close enough, and saw the way Jarod was squinting and that was all he needed to know to figure out that Jared had a hang over, which wasn't something he was at all happy about. So he lectured the teen about the legal drinking age and shook his head at the boys cocky answer, having to resist the urge to smack him upside the head for it and only barely refrained because he thought it would be mean with the boys hangover. "that's only because your mother loves you enough to protect you from the legal ramifications of your stupid stunts. She could withdraw the immunity whenever she felt like it." He told the kid, mostly because he thought it was something Jarod wouldn't already know and might make the kid realize that his mother loved him and shoudl be treated better by him. Then the man went on to tell the kid what he was going to do and he shook his head when the boy got an attitude with him, though he'd expected it. "No. This is how this is going to work. You're going to do as I say, when I say it, or you're going to get your ass whupped 'till you decide to cut the crap and behave yourself. And dont think you can go crying to mommy, 'cause she already gave me permission to deal with your discipline as I see fit so she wont save you this time. There are going to be consequences for your actions now, Jarod, you're going to stop acting like you're better than everyone else and above the law. Now do as I said or you'll get your first spanking right now." he said, his voice hard and sounding like a growl the whole time and when eh finished he gestured towards the door, waiting to see if the kid would obey him or if he was going to balk and make his situation even worse than it was now.

While she had never been one for corporal punishment Tricia was smart enough to realize that her methods weren't working with Jared and after the beyond thorough job that she had done with screening process for his new bodyguard she trusted Joseph not to hurt her son. So even when she found out just how he was planning on handling discipline with the teen she didn't rescind her offer and just reiterated that it was up to him. After Jared left the room she told Joseph that the boy was all hers and then she told him that she'd be in her office, watching him leave and then going to work on some paperwork, keeping herself occupied. Jared meanwhile had gone up to his room with every intention of going back to bed however that was interrupted when the idiot bodyguard came into his room uninvited and then proceeded to pull back the curtains and make his migraine that much worse, serving to put Jared in an even worse mood than he'd been before. So of course when the man started lecturing him about the legal drinking age he felt the need to point out that the rules didn't apply to him, shrugging his shoulders when he was informed that it was only because his mother loved him enough to protect him. "Whether she could or not is a moot point, I know that she won't," he pointed out in the same cocky manner, going on to tell the man how it was going to be, pretty much mocking him. His eyes narrowed again when Joseph told him how it was going to work and actually threatened him, telling him that he couldn't go crying to mommy because she'd given him permission. The threats and lectures really just didn't go over well with him and since he had a splitting headache right now he was not in the mood, Jared narrowing his eyes as he snapped out, "Go the fuck away, you son of a bitch! I swear if you touch me I'll have your ass arrested for assault." He wasn't sure if his mother had really given the man permission to do anything of the sort but since she was not the type for that kind of punishment he was thinking that it was all a bluff. After all he'd never been spanked in his life and Jared had no intentions of breaking that streak either, the boy walking away from the door and closing the curtains so that the obnoxious sunlight was no longer shining in through his window, which only slightly helped his throbbing head. "I have a headache and I really don't need you adding to that so just go the hell away already," he said as he turned his back on the man, clearly done with the conversation.

Joseph had no idea why he'd even gone through the trouble of passing all of Tricia's 'tests' for him during the extensive screening process that she'd had, maybe some part of his competitive spirit made him want to pass her tests and get the job. For whatever reason he'd managed to pass it and now he found himself the keeper of a fourteen year old terror of a child, who needed a serious attitude check. So after the teen stormed away he followed the kid and attempted to get him out of bed and downstairs so that he could give the kid something for his hangover and he wasn't thrilled when the teen decided to get an attitude with him over it, though he really wasn't surprised. He pointed out to the teen that the diplomatic immunity was only because his mom loved him and rolled his eyes when the teen countered that by cockily informing him that she wouldn't take it away since the teen totally missed his point about the woman loving him and how he should be grateful to her for that. He decided to drop that one for the moment and just went on to inform the teen how this was going to work and he shook his head when Jared threatened to have him arrested for assault. "Good luck with that one kid. You'd have to call the cops you thoroughly pissed off, and they'd come here just to have your mom tell them that she gave me permission to whup your ass when you deserve it. Just going to be embarrassing for you but by all means go right ahead, I'll give you my cell if you want" he said, his tone purposefully patronizing just because the teen was annoying him so he sort of immaturely wanted to annoy Jared back. After that he watched the teen pull the blinds back to cover the window as the teen announced that he had a headache and the rest, and Joe was sorely tempted to take the brat over his knee right then and there but he knew how much hangovers hurt so he really didn't want to do that to the kid. "Lets go." He said instead, grabbing the teens arm and dragging him out of hte room if Jared didn't feel up to cooperating on his own. He pulled the teen along with him down to the kitchen where he shoved the boy into a chair and then started rummaging around in the kitchen where he started tossing stuff into the blender for a home made hangover remedy that smelled and tasted pretty bad but it worked really fast. While he was doing that he kept a close eye on the teen and if Jared tried to leave he caught him and shoved him back into the chair the way someone would do to a toddler that kept leaving time out. When the drink was done he brought it over to the kid and set it down in front of him, "That'll cure your hangover pretty fast. Tastes like crap but it's worth it." He said, then walked over to the kitchen again to make some toast and get ice water for Jared since that would help too and he placed it in front of the teen then took a seat in front of him and waited to see if the teen was going to eat and drink what he'd been given or if he would chose to be stubborn and keep the hangover instead, though Joe was thinking that was unlikely.

Jared was really, really annoyed with his so called bodyguard at this point and was thinking that hitting him over the head and burying him in the backyard wasn't such a bad idea at this point though he would never actually go through with that. It was just something that the disgruntled teenager was thinking about to make himself feel a bit better, not that it worked because he still felt like shit. A fact that was really just not being helped by Joseph and his continued presence, the man issuing his threat and that caused Jared to issue one of his own, informing the man that he was going to end up arrested for assault if he so much as touched him. Jared was not happy with what the man had to say in response to that one, his eyes narrowing in response to both the words and the patronizing tone of voice that Joseph was using with him. "Alright Joey, you're a real bastard, we've established that now go away," he told him, snapping it out angrily and regretting that as it made his head throb all the more. After that he walked over to the blinds and closed them, once again telling the man to get the fuck out, and growling when he was grabbed by the arm once again. "Let go of me!" he growled as he was pulled from the room and dragged downstairs to the kitchen before being shoved into a chair by the man. This hands on approach was starting to make him plot horrible things that he was going to do to the guy, his eyes narrowed as he watched what Joseph was doing for a few minutes before getting to his feet and attempting to stalk away, only to be grabbed and once again shoved into the chair. "Damn it!" he snapped, clenching his hands into fists and resisting the urge to punch the guy at this point. The stuff that was put in front of him was by no means appealing to Jared and after picking it up and getting a whiff of the smell he was doubly sure that it was not in fact edible. "Trying to poison me now?" he asked in a bratty tone, picking it up and wondering if it would really help with the hangover. He took a sip of it and gagged, thinking that it was nasty, but with the migraine that he had he was willing to risk it so he pinched his nose and then chugged the entire glass before gulping the ice water that he'd been given as well. "Ugh...damn, that shit is nasty," he said, making a face and then glaring over at Joseph again as he nibbled the toast. Jared was surprised that the vile concoction actually did work, his eyes losing the pained looked they'd had as his headache started to go away which was a definite relief but he made no moves to thank the man for that since he was still pissed off at him.

Joe was really annoyed with Jared at this point too so he really didn't care if he was bothering the brat, in fact he was sort of aiming for that when he patronized him about just what would happen if Jared was stupid enough to call the cops on him. Which Joe doubted the teen would actually do by the time he was finished with him, but who knows Jared might surprise him. He rolled his eyes when Jared told him that he was a bastard, the 'Joey' making his eye twitch since he hated that nickname and always had but he didn't call the kid on it just yet since he had the feeling that if Jared knew that it bothered him he would do it on purpose just to be a brat. INstead of going away the way that the teen wanted him to he ended up grabbing Jared and pulling him out of the room, ignoring his growled protests to be let go and ignored the kid snapping at him when Jared tried to leave only to be caught by Joe and put right back. He was pleased when the teen stayed that time and was thinking that just maybe the kid wasn't stupid even if he was stubborn since he was starting to show signs that he could learn when he lost a fight at the very least, and that was a start. When he finished the drink he set it in front of the teen, snorting at Jareds question in the process, "If I did that I'd be out of a job. Didn't go through all this for nothing. Just drink it, it'll help" He said, then went to get the ice water and toast and grinned when he saw Jared chugging the drink and then said it was nasty. "Yeah I know. Had my fair share of that stuff when I was in college. It helps though." He added, noticing that some of the tension left the kids eyes shortly after and showed him that Jared was starting to feel better at least. He just sat across from the kid at that point, waiting until Jared was finished nibbling on his toast and then he gave the kid a critical look. "Feeling better?" He asked, not really sounding that concerned about it since he still thought that the kid brought it on himself so there was no reason to feel bad for him for it. Once Jared answered, if he were going to, Joe decided it was time to address what he'd seen of the kids behavior so far so he stood and once again grabbed Jared's arm, pulling the teen to his feet and pulling him into the kitchen where he took his time to sift through the drawer with the cooking utensils until he selected a long handled wooden spoon. "Now. When we're done here you're going to go to your mother and apologize to her, and after that you're going to go to your room and sleep off the rest of that hangover you managed to give yourself." he instructed the teen, holding the spook at his side and sounding rather ominous as he informed the teen how this was going to work, though he fully expected Jared to hate him and hate the situation he was in now. It was normal for the kid to feel that way when he was going from having no consequences at all to suddenly having someone that was going to keep him in line the hard way.
