Rules of the West (for Mjølner)

[Kisabratty]

A jovial tune played from the piano in the corner of the Crossroads Tavern, not exactly matching with the atmosphere of the dirty bar. Brutish men and loose women roamed about the inside of the tavern, some speaking and others minding their own business with their drinks. A barkeep grumbled orders to hair waitresses as he tried to keep up with the orders being bellowed by his rugged patrons.

Bethany Manor looked quite out of place in the tavern, sitting alone at the bar with a mostly untouched mug in front of her. Her brown hat was pulled close to her eyes but didn't hide the blonde ponytail that came out from behind it. She sat, trying her best to hide her discomfort in the tavern as her eyes scanned the bar from under her hat. She wasn't really sure who she was trying to find, instead hoping someone who could help her would come to her. However, she wasn't too keen on socializing with many of the individuals that currently populated the dirty tavern.

Finally, she took a swig from her mug, making a face at the bitter taste that entered her mouth. The barkeep chuckled as she saw it and she gave him a dirty look before averting her gaze.

Thomas Garver stood outside the bar, his blonde hair waving slightly in the wind underneath his black hat. His green trenchcoat also flickered slightly in the breeze. The young man worked as a bounty hunter and had just returned from a successful hunt. He made a bit of money on his profession and he now wanted to relax a little before resuming his hunting. " Howdy, Thomas." the bartender greeted him. " I take it your hunt was sucessful as always?" he said and grinned at the blonde. " Yep. That`s right, Sam. Could I have a beer?" Thomas said and returned the grin. He took a sip of the beer as his eyes scanned the bar. He got a bit curious as he spotted a woman around his own age that looked a bit out of place. He gave her a small smile and tip of his hat as he took another sip of his beer.

Beth's eyes followed the newcomer to the tavern and tried to listen to his conversation with the bartender. She noted that he was talking about a hunt but wasn't sure if that meant hunting animals or... someone else. Her eyes remained on the man, noting his youth and appearance, then saw him smile and tip his hat. Her face went red as she quickly averted her eyes, staring into the darkness within her beer mug as she cursed mentally for allowing herself to look so awkward in the tavern.

Thomas smirked as the girl averted her eyes from him. He drank som more of the bear before Sam the bartender spoke to him again. " So who are you hunting next, Thomas? You ain`t gonna start a shootout with anyone here, are ya?" he said and chuckled. " No, don`t worry. I don`t think the sheriff wants anyone here...unless they get too drunk." the bounty hunter replied and chuckled. His eyes ventured to the girl again and he looked at her with a curious look in his blue eyes. He took his beer and walked over to her and sat down across from her, giving her a slight smirk. " Hello." he greeted.

Out of the corner of her eyes, Beth watched as the man began making his way over to her. She took in a nervous breath. She didn't know why she felt so nervous. She came in here to meet someone, and this man might just be the kind of person she wanted to meet. She glanced over as the man walked up and greeted her.

"Hi." She stated quickly, not looking the man in the face. She didn't want to seem to friendly.

" You seem a bit...out of place for a setting such as this one." Thomas said and chuckled as he finished drinking up his beer. " May I ask what you`re doing in a place like this?" he said as his eyes were now a bit suspicious and a little hard as he looked at the woman. " What are you looking for? You look a bit too fancy to just be wanting some alcohol..." he mused as he smirked at her again.

Beth listened as the man spoke and mentally cursed herself. She'd tried so hard to blend in to the crowd but this guy noticed how out of place she was within seconds of entering the bar. She sighed before glancing over at the man and shrugging her shoulders gently.

"Can't a girl get a drink in peace?" She asked as nonchalantly as possible before taking another sip of her beer. She couldn't help but make another face at the bitter beverage, a blush quickly going over her face.

" Of course, but you do not look like you enjoy what you`re drinking." Thomas stated and chuckled at her expression and the blush. " Ok, out with it. What`re you looking for?" he asked, as his blue eyes gave her a slight glare. " You`re not fooling anyone with that act, all you`re accomplishing is making yourself look like a fool." he stated in a gruff tone of voice.

Beth looked up at the man with agitation in her face, "What do you mean looking like a fool?" She pouted slightly as she looked back at the beer resting in front of her, "And no, I don't care for what I'm drinking. This place apparently bottles urine and passes it off as alcohol."

She rolled her eyes and looked back at the man, "And I don't know if its any of your business, really. Not too good at small talk? Why not tell me what you're doing here first?"

" Heh, I wouldn`t imagine a lady like you to say things like that." Thomas mused as the woman critisized the beer they both had been drinking. " I mean that you look completely different than the rest of the people in this place." the bounty hunter said and chuckled. " Heh, be a little less patronizing, will you?" he muttered. " My name is Thomas Garver and I`m a bounty hunter. Which means I capture or kill people for money." Thomas said. " Now what about you? Who are you and what are you doing here?" he asked.
