Growing Pains [For VulcanSpock]

Pavel Chekov checked himself over in his bathroom's mirror. He tried to stand up straighter, a determined look on his face. He puffed his chest out and fixed his hair. His goal for the day was to finally prove to Bones that, 'he was not a leettle kid anymore!' And that, 'I em too old for you to treat me zis way! He furrowed his brow and frowned, sighing, before retaining his slightly-slumped-over stature and left his room, walking out of his room for today's work.

Captain Christopher Pike had students relaxing for the last night before tomorrow's launch. He couldn't have suspected that anything would have come up of it; that is, until he saw who was currently getting his face beaten in by one of his classmates. He blew his whistle and all students went straight to attention.
"I think that's enough!" Pike called. "Go back to your rooms if you cannot behave!"
They didn't dare disobey him, so all of the launchee's cleared out, leaving James T. Kirk bleeding on a table. Pike sighed deeply and walked over to him.
"Get up, son," he said, "And get some toilet paper from the bathroom to fix your nose."

(( since Jim hasn't joined the fleet yet, it's safe to assume that Bones and Chekov would have just started at the academy right? ))

Jim couldn't really focus on much as the blood poured from his nose and his mouth, but he did hear the loud whistle and he looked upside down, dazed up at Captain Pike. "You can whistle really loud, you know that?" he slurred before eventually getting himself up from the table, his back was aching and his face was aching but it was nothing he couldn't handle. He headed to the bathroom and grabbed some tissue for his nose before then returning and ordering two drinks for himself and Pike. "I almost had him anyway. I was just letting him win for the sake of his bitches. Why are you even here?"

[[Yes; I almost had Chekov walk to the bridge but then remembered they're not even there yet. XD]]

Pike narrowed his eyes at the boy before him. He knew very well of Kirk's dangerous spirit. He knew that he was usually one that got into a ton of trouble, mostly for his big mouth. He leaned on his elbow, which was propped onto the bar counter.

"I'm sure you did, boy." He said in a sarcastic tone. "I'm here because I could hear the ruckus a mile away. It's my job to at least try to keep all you kids in line. And watch your tone," he added, not enjoying his use of curse words.

Bones had been pretty pumped to start at the star fleet Academy, along with his medical training in high school, he believed he was on the fast track to becoming a medical officer. That of cours being his goal in life since he was very young. He seated himself at one of the starting lectures beside Chekov, a younger looking cadet (since he had no idea he'd lied about his age...yet) he'd come to grow fond of. "You did your homework right?" he asked, raising a brow, wanting the Russian to succeed so he was a little tough on him.

"All us kids? Y'know I'm not part of your red uniformed herd." Jim answered, shaking his head. He wasn't a part of Star fleet and had no intentions of joining...at least not yet. "Watch my tone? Who are you, my Father?" he asked, scoffing a little in amusement. "Look, why are you even talking to me man?" he asked, downing his drink and then hailing for a second from a passing green skinned waitress.

Chekov sat up straighter when Bones had set next to him. Here we go, he thought to himself. Half encouraging himself on, half in sarcasm to reference Bones' 'caring' persona. "Of course I deed," he said, his accent still very heavy. "I want to pass zis school, ozerwise I wouldn't be here." He looked over at him. "Did you do your homework?"

Pike shook his head at the man. This kid had no right to be so snarky to him! Pike had half a mind to drag the boy over his knee and spank him right then and there fore sheer impudence. But of course, he wouldn't do that. He needed to establish his authority over James slowly. Carefully. But not leniently.
"No, I'm not. My name is Captain Christopher Pike. I'm talking to you because I believe you would be on a better... track... if you joined Starfleet. I know that you have the potential to be a great man: a great captain, even... Just like your father."

Bones frowned a little, not really impressed with the attitude he got back and he shook his head. "I just asked a damn question, calm down." he said, his tone holding a warning to it. "I want you to pass too, that's why I'm checking up on you, besides you know Admiral Marcus asked me to try and establish a bridge between your Russian and English." he added and pinged open his padd, searching through his notes and data before then nodding. "Of course I did my homework, first thing."

Jim had no idea Pike was thinking of taking him over his knee, and wouldn't be happy if he did know so it was better that he didn't. He listened to what he said, sort of halved and rolled his eyes, but when he mentioned his Dad, he was quick to give the man lip and cut him off. "You done?" he asked, rather disrespectfully. James T Kirk never really respected anyone, sometimes not even himself. He downed more of his drink and looked Pike right in the eye.

Chekov was going to continue; however. He believed that he could talk however he wanted to Bones. He was old enough to take care of himself. He had gotten into Starfleet, after all! All by himself! He was perfectly fine by himself. He smirked and then spoke, his native language rolling off his tongue, "Yesli ya khochu govorit'po - russki, ya budu govorit'na russkom yazyke." The translation equates to: 'If I want to speak Russian, then I will speak Russian.' He glanced over at Bones' notes and data, then looked back to his own. A visible twitch came from his eye. Did he do the wrong assignment? Or did he get his answers wrong..? He quickly closed out of his notes and leaned back in his chair.

Pike was astounded by Kirk's immediate leap to back-talking. He furrowed his brow and then decided it would be best to begin now. He leant forward, getting close to James' face, lowering his voice to scarcely above a whisper. "You listen here, boy," he growled. "I'm not going to sit here and try to help you if you're going to keep talking to me like I'm trash. I'm not going to let you throw away your future, either. I'm going to stay with you whether you like it or not: and if you continue to talk rudely to me, you'll be having a very sore backside to deal with."

Bones rose a brow when Chekov spoke in russian to him, "You can speak russian all you want to your fellow cadets but when speaking to a superior, they'd need to be able to understand ya." he informed the younger cadet and then noticed him glancing over his notes, and his eye twitching concerned him. "Everything okay there?" he asked since his actions were a little concerning. "Do you want me to look over your data?" he asked, wanting to help him out.

Jim didn't flinch as Pike leaned closer to him, he listened to what he said, with another roll of his eyes and then the part about having a sore backside caught his attention and he frowned confused at the older man. "What?" he asked, actually laughing since he'd never heard something so ridiculous in all his life. "Well that's one I've not heard before, I'll admit." he finished off his second drink and called for a third. "So are you going or are you gonna keep rambling, old man?"

Chekov rolled his eyes on Bones' remark on his speaking. However, when he offered to check over his data, Pavel almost jolted out of his seat. "Net, net, net," he said quickly in Russian, before shaking his head to stop himself. "Everyzing is fine." He tried to sound reassuring. "I-I'm just tired."

Pike continued to glare at the boy, and waved off the barkeep. "Don't give him another one." He ordered coldly, leaning back in his seat. "Listen up, James," he said. "You have serious potential in Starfleet. Much more potential than anything you could do down here. Why don't you go ahead and give it a try?"

"Well if you say so Pavel, but ya know I'll help you out if you need it." he informed the younger cadet. "And maybe you should have a rest through the free period." he added, of course worried about his health since that was what he wanted to focus on as a profession. He then glanced up at the lecturer and tried to take in everything he could about the binary stars but it was pretty hard to keep up with it all.

Jim frowned when Pike cancelled his other drink. "What the hell is your problem, man?" he asked, leaning back in his chair as well, glaring at the older man and sighing annoyed when he went on abut Starfleet and him having potential. "When I want to mingle with a bunch of bozos being taught by stuck up idiots like you, I'll give you a hail. Otherwise, I wouldn't be caught dead in your little school." he answered, standing and removing the tissues from his nostrils.
