It was a late summer after noon as 20 year-old Takashi Kusanagi is on his way from work he was tired and hungry and couldn't wait to get home and take a load off. Little did he know that as walked through a small but crowded open market, he would have a chance encounter that would test his his kindness.

In the busy crowd on a hot summer day. A girl in her late teen walks up the street. She looked like some kind of rocker and had a not caring look on her face. Though there was something else going through her mind. Looking for a victim to get some cash. JUst as she thought that it was slim pickings. She spots a man and smiled in her mind. Thinking he was perfect. So he walked as she does but when she got closer to Takashi, she bumps into him, acting all casual. By the time that he notice that his wallet was messing, she was off running. Taking twist and turns through alley ways til she reach a small one and turned the corner.

There sat a little girl with her knees pressed to her chest and looks at the older woman and smiles. "Welcome back, ane-chan." the little girl said happy. "Hey, squirt. Lookie what I got." she said and shows her the stolen wallet. "Looks like you and I are going to have ramen tonight." she said with a cocky grin on her face. Not knowing if the man was close by or not. All she cared for is putting food into her sister's stomach.

"You know... if you needed money all you had to do was ask." Takashi said as if he suddenly appeared from behind.

Both of the girls gasped as they heard a voice behind them. Since this was a small alleyway and behind an old building no one uses anymore. They thought that they were safe here. The older of the two was a little nervous with the man following behind her and figured that this is the end. But then her little sister stood in front of her and had her arms up. "Please don't tell on us, mister." she said. "Emiko-chan, don't." the older one said in a stern voice.

"Ane-chan and I are just hungry. I haven't had food for three days and ane-chan four days." the little girl explained. "So please don't tell the police on us. I-I don't want to be away from my ane-chan." she said as tears formed in her eyes and sniffles. The older girl kneels beside her sister and wrapped her arms around her. Patting her on the back to calm her down.

He listened to the poor little girl and his heart sank as he sighed. "Man oh man..." he approaches them and gets on his knees in the seiza position and smiles. "Listen if you give me back my wallet I'll take you both to my apartment and cook up a nice hot meal for you two." he offered. He couldn't stand the thought of leaving these girls on the street. The little one looked so cute and adorable while her older sibling looked very attractive.

The little girl sniffled a few times as she watched the man get down on the ground. Telling them that if the older one would return his wallet to him, then he will allow them to come back to his place and he would cook a meal for them. Now if it was her, Mitsuru would say no and make a run with the wallet. But she had to think of her sister first. So she hands the wallet back tot he rightful person.

"So, you won't tell on us?" the little girl asked to make sure. Because she didn't want her sister to go away.

He takes the wallet and shakes his head. "No I won't tell, I promise." assured her. "Now follow me. Oh and my name is Takashi Kusanagi what are yours?" he asked as he lead them.

The little girl smiled when he assured her that he was not going to tell on her sister. Even the older one looked relief. "Thank you." the little girl said happily. Then both follow him out of the alley and towards his place. The older girl hold hands with the smaller one. While walking, he asked for their names. "I'm Mitsuru and the squirt is Emiko." the older one of the two said.

He nods in acknowledgement. They arrive at a tall apartment complex. He takes them up to the fifth floor and down several doors before arriving at his apartment. "Here we are. Home sweet home." he said as he unlocked the door and let them in. "Make yourselves at home while I cook dinner." he allowed as he went into the kitchen to get started. "So tell me how did you girls end up on the street?" he asked.

The girls soon arrived tot he man's apartment. They look up and the little girl's eyes widen while the older looked calmer, but is still on her toes. It was nice of him to invite them to his place for a meal, but is not often that someone goes out of their way for someone and she had to protect her sister. They followed him up the stairs and into his place.

Mitsuru looks around and sees that it's a normal looking apartment. Nothing shady or dirty about it. While Emiko smiled and giggled. Thinking the place looked neat. They went further into the kitchen/ living room. They were told to get comfortable while he cooks. They nod their head and the little one went over tot he couch, humming a little tune. While the other stood and let her eyes wonder around.

Then Takashi asked how they end up on the streets. The smaller one was about to speak, but her older sister stepped in. "It was a running night and our folks got into a crash. They...didn't make it." Mitsuru said in a soft tone. Like it wasn't a big deal, but there was a hint that she was as hurt as her sister. Who sniffled and wiped her eyes. For she is still dealing with the loss. "After paying for everything, we just couldn't afford to stay home." she said. "They were gonna take me away and I didn't want to be apart from my ane-chan." little Emiko said in a sad tone. "So we try everything we can to stay alive."
