A Queen's Duties (for Little Sayuri)

The courtroom finally emptied out. Councilor Varrus exhaled a deep sigh. "A long day, your majesty. And later tonight there are still many items to address." Varrus had jet black hair, immaculately groomed, bright green eyes, and olive skin. He was wearing standard nobility attire with a patterned white shirt, brown trousers, white stockings, and brown leather shoes.

"There's the water treaty we need to renew, the defense budget readjustment for the crumbling walls, we need to arrange a fundraiser for the university." It was nothing particularly interesting, but Varrus liked his job. He got to organize many events and it also gave him a chance to be close with the queen. "I thought you had actually taken care of these last night, my queen. Your humble servant wouldn't dare question your reasons for not doing so, although..."

Celia looked around for a moment as the courtroom emptied and smiled as she heard her councilor who sighed deeply. She felt like doing so as well, but being the queen mean that she wasn't allowed to show any of her true emotions towards her servants and people.

Celia was a pretty woman of 20 years with curly long blonde hair and clear blue eyes. Today she was wearing a dress that fit with her eyecolor, and her hair was tied up in a lovely updo that made her look a bit older.

She stood up and walked around for a moment, before she turned her head to Varrus. He was a sharp men, she knew that the day they first met. But he was also cruel, and yet, he took a liking in her, she thought. "You do good not to dare questioning my reasons for not doing all my chores yesterday.", she told him coldly and turned her head away from him again. She didn't want him to see her smiling about his harmless question or the small blush that spread across her features, because she feared getting caught. Of course she could have done all the boring things he just mentioned, but Celia felt more like taking a ride on her horse last evening, which was dangerous. Even more dangerous if somebody like her decided to take that ride all alone, without anybody to protect her, as she did yesterday.

Hopefully, her Councilor wouldn't find out...

"Is that so...Celia?" Varrus said, as he sat down on the throne she had been occupying. Despite his close relationship with the queen, he would not dream of calling her by her first name, or even touch her throne - at least normally. He grinned at her, but this was a much different grin than he had used earlier - a facial expression that made him seem like an entirely different person.

"So you won't tell me why you neglected your duties." He pointed down at his feet. "Come here and kneel before your king and apologize for your shortcomings." His tone was not especially forceful, but his expression carried a certain weight of authority.
