She was just waking up when she heard a conversation happening between a nurse and a man with an American accent. Her entire chest hurt, feeling like she was being sat on by an elephant... It took her a few minutes to realize where she was and what was happening; the nurse had told her earlier that she would be visited by someone named Torchwood. Was he Torchwood?

"What information do you have on the patient?" the man asked.
"She was found in an alley two kilometers away from the hospital by a man who refused to give us a name. Patient appears to be a female between fifteen and nineteen years old. She was admitted as a Jane Doe. She didn't have any form of ID on her." the nurse replied, looking back toward the girl's room.
"What's the diagnosis?" he asked, looking toward the girl's room himself.
"Heart failure, but in diagnosing our patient, we discovered she had two hearts, and only one is failing and both hearts have an irregular rhythm." the nurse explained, to which the man nodded, sighing.

Marie opened her eyes, looking around and trying to focus on her surroundings. The first things she noticed were that heart monitor and the many sensors taped on her chest. She held onto the guard rail, pulling herself up into sitting position. Marie certainly didn't want to be there, nor did she want to talk to this odd sounding man, and she started pulling the sensors off of her skin. She knew she was in no condition to leave this unfamiliar medical facility just yet, but she wouldn't let that stop her. This "Torchwood" could possibly be there to hurt her or to take her away to some place strange.

Marie was completely covered in sweat, the sheets underneath her weak form drenched. She was cold, and she felt like she was going to vomit, but she needed to get out of there. Clad in a hospital gown and shorts, she attempted her grand escape, her legs shaking underneath her as she left the room and followed the signs toward the lobby, the "Torchwood" man (known as Captain Jack Harkness) and the nurse seemingly being too wrapped up in conversation to notice that their patient was no longer in her bed. Little did Marie know, Jack did notice her leaving.

"I don't mean to interrupt you, but that girl just made a run for it." he said to the nurse. The nurse's eyes widened, looking back toward the girl's room again... She was gone. The nurse called for security, but they would come much too late to stop the runaway girl. Jack thought maybe if this girl was the Doctor regenerated, that he... or rather, she, was looking for the TARDIS.

Marie walked through the automatic doors to the outside where she was met with a blast of the cold night air. She gasped, the cold nearly taking the breath out of her, but she pushed on. She had to be careful if she didn't want to be spotted. Jack, unable to see the lobby, was concerned that she really had made it past security, as nobody seemed to be running after their fugitive patient. Marie didn't know where she was going, but she believed anywhere was better than here.

She wandered down the street, her hearts racing in her chest; she was becoming weaker with every step. Her hearts couldn't take much more of this, and she badly needed to rest. Her vision began to fade, and she was starting to stumble. She turned a corner, a hand on the side of a building for support, and her tired eyes were met with an oddly familiar sight. A blue police call box... Maybe that was a nice, warm, safe place to hide. Her already failing heart stopped, her remaining heart still working; as she inched towards the blue police box, she lost consciousness and fell forwards, sliding down the door to the blue box, generating a thud.

If somebody had told the Doctor what would happen on this day to him, he would have laughed at that person and just ignored it. But here he was. All alone again, in the TARDIS, starring at a monitor in front of him. „Interesting...The galaxy delta 2000 will disappear soon...must be one hell of a view“, he mumbled, more to himself, because nobody was there. He sighed. He missed Amy and Rory, but he would never admit that.

The book and the message from them was only a little help for his bad conscience, and even if they didn't die, he felt sorry for them. Hoping to flee from his memories, he decided to simply continue travelling around, to keep his mind busy and be helpful for other people maybe, to make up for his mistakes from the past; but it wasn't that easy after all.

Just as he decided to watch the dying galaxy and admire the view, he heard a small thud at the door. With a frown, he went over to open up. „Yes?“, he asked and poked his head out of the door, but it seemed that nobody was there. „Hello?“, he mumbled, slightly confused and sceptical, thinking this would be a trick maybe, as he suddenly looked down and noticed the girl in front of him.

„Oh my...what happened to you?“, he mumbled and picked her up to get her inside quickly. A girl that lay in front of his spaceship would surely draw attention, and he didn't want that. Carefully, he layed her down on the ground and started checking her vital functions, by scanning her. „But this...is impossible...“, he mumbled as he noticed the scan that the TARDIS made from the girl. „Scan her again“, he ordered, but the outcome was the same. Two hearts...two hearts...TWO HEARTS! She was one of his kind!

Totally surprised, he also noticed that one of her hearts stopped working, so he decided to stop being surprised for the moment and simply safe the girl's life. She was one of his kind after all, it was his duty to do that! Quickly, he got everything he needed and started to reanimate her heart, giving her some liquids to drink as well and checking her functions again. Slowly but surely, her heart started working again and she seemed to get better. With a relieved smile, the doctor looked at her. She was 16, maybe a bit older, he couldn't tell...she just looked so young to him... „Who are you...?“, he whispered confused as he stroke her hair gently, still totally surprised about this meeting. He had never imagined to meet one of his kind again, he was the only one left as far as he knew, but it seemed like he was wrong. He wasn't used to that, not at all!

As the girl started moving slightly, he sat across from her and waited until she opened her eyes. „Good morning sleepyhead, everything alright?“, he asked happily, as if nothing had happend. There was no reason to scare the poor thing away, and even if he was curious and wanted to ask a lot of questions, he forced himself to stay calm for the moment. She would sure tell him everything if he would just give her the time that she would need for her recovery and to get used to everything.

Marie took in a shallow breath and slowly opened her eyes, hearing a new, unfamiliar voice. She tried to focus her eyes on the stranger, her body still rather weak from this rough evening she was having. "..." she stayed lying down for now, just looking toward him. She was unsure what was going on, if she was dreaming, a hallucination, or if it was reality. Marie was still afraid of the Torchwood man, and instead of looking around to assess her situation, she kept her eyes on The Doctor.
She took a moment to rub her eyes, clearing her throat and now asking warily, "I... wh... who are you, a-and where... where am I?" She had been sure she would die, but here she was, alive, and her chest certainly felt better. This didn't seem to be the Torchwood man at all, but she was still quite worried about him. She looked the Doctor over from head to toe - he didn't seem dangerous.

She was talking to him, that was a good start after all. The Doctor smiled and bend over to her a bit more. "My name is the Doctor, and I am a Time Lord.", he explained calmly. "I heard you, as you fell against my TARDIS, and checked your vital functions. One of your two hearts didn't work anymore, so I took you in and reanimated it, not a big deal at all", he added happily.
"I have to say, that I am pretty curious about how you got here...I mean...I thought I was the last Time Lord after all...but it seems I am not. Where did you stay until now, and where do you come from? Are there more of us somewhere near?", he wanted to know, slightly excited, because he could maybe meet more of his kind again.

Marie kept her eyes on him, quietly listening to what he had to say. Her eyes widened as he mentioned his name, and that word. TARDIS. She didn't yet understand the familiarity of this. Time Lord. TARDIS. The Doctor. She felt like she should remember something that caused this to strike such familiarity with her, but she couldn't think of anything. It was all so far away.

She didn't know how to answer any of these questions, but she thought hard, trying her best to give him some kind of answers to his curiosity. "I was alone a lot, um, but, I had two people, that a voice told me were my mom and dad, but I don't think they were telling the truth, because they didn't seem very real to me. I don't know where I came from, and I don't know what you mean by ...more of us. Y...You're not the Torchwood man, are you?" she needed to get that important question out of the way before she talked to him any more. She didn't know him, and didn't know if he could be another Torchwood man. She would wait before telling him her name or exactly how she got there. She realized she was still dressed in the hospital gown and shorts, so it was a no brainer where she likely came from, and the mud on her feet made it obvious she came here on her own.

The doctor looked at her with a confused face expression. She didn't know...it seemed she really didn't know... Torchwood? Torchwood came to see her? Captain Jack Harkness came maybe? "No, I am not the Torchwood man, don't worry...", he said slowly and looked at his screen. No sign of Harkness so far. "Listen, if Torchwood came to check you, they might know what I know already", he continued. "You, are one of my kind! You have two hearts! I have two hearts as well, we are the only species with two hearts! You are one of my kind", he repeated excited. "What do you remember? From your life before you came to this planet?", he wanted to know curiously.

Marie just stared at The Doctor like a deer in headlights as he talked about their multiple hearts and species. She breathed a sigh of relief as he told her he was not the Torchwood man, but she started laughing awkwardly at that next question, shaking her head, "What, what do you mean, before I came to this planet?" she asked slowly, "I... I don't know. I was somewhere before. It was like Earth, they said it was Earth, but people repeated themselves like they were just recordings, or holograms, and then here, everyone's real, and they don't sound like robots. Are you saying I'm not from Earth? Where am I from?" she reached up to squeeze The Doctor's cheek to make sure he was real, but before she touched him, she drew back.

The Doctor watched her curiously and wondered why she didn't touch him. "Well...it seems like somebody wanted to make you think that you are from earth then...which you are not...not originally after all...", he explained and smiled, because everything made a bit more sense for him now. "You are from Gallifrey", he told her and showed her a picture on his screen. "I noticed your reaction to my words earlier. You KNOW the TARDIS and you know the Time Lords...you just forgot about it...", he said and sighed.
"We need to refresh your memory", he decided happily and stood up. "How do you feel by the way? Better I assume because you are able to breath normally and talk to me properly after all", he answered his own question.

Marie slowly pushed herself up into sitting position, stretching before she pulled her knees to her chest. She looked up toward the screen, studying it for a moment and listening to his voice and the words he was saying. She wasn't going to deny that those words were familiar to her. For whatever reason, she remembered the TARDIS. She remembered the Time Lords and Gallifrey... Her expression changed drastically; she gasped, eyes wide and memories flooding into her head. "...They told me it was all a dream. That everything I remembered was a fantasy. That I was just being a silly little girl. It... It was cold. It was so cold." she took in a deep breath, trying to calm her heart rates.

"Well it seems like they were the silly ones, if they told you that it was just a dream", he said amused and knelt down to her again. "Hey...you don't have to be afraid...calm down...", he said gently and stroke her hair. "I am sorry if I scared you, but everything is just so exciting for me! I thought I was the last one, and now it appeared that I am not alone anymore!", he said happily and stood up again. "Do you need anything?", he asked, while he searched for more informations about Gallifrey and some more pictures for the girl. She needed to remember a lot of things after all, it was surely a shock!
