Sarah babysits Jonny (for shadowsong2b)

Six-year old Jonny Mason sat in the living room watching cartoons. when the phone rang. He jumped up to answer it. He loved answering the phone though the call was never for him. He picked up the phone and said, "Mason residence." The call was for his mother again, of course. She spoke for a bit then called to her son. "Jonny, Mommy is going to have to go out. I want you to run up and get dressed and make your bed."

Jonny came over. "But, Mommy, you were gonna take me to the park."

His mother covered the receiver and said, "Mommy has to run for a job interview. Now please be a big help and go get dressed and make your bed."

Jonny went off and stomped up the stairs. His mother sighed. Jonny took off his PJs leaving them in the middle of the floor and put on blue shorts, a yellow T-shirt and red socks. He liked primary colors. He did NOT make his bed. He was mad at Mommy.

Meanwhile Katherine called two sitters with no success. Then she thought of the neighbor girl, Sarah. She knew that Sarah had started to sit and was a good student and very responsible. She called and Sarah agreed to come right over. Katherine thanked her and quickly grabbed what she'd need. She called up to her son, "Jonny, Sarah is coming over to sit. Are you dressed? Did you make your bed?"

"Yes." Jonny lied.

"Come down please."

Jonny was mad. He was not going to come down so he told his mother he had to use the bathroom and went there instead

Soon the doorbell rang and his curiosity got the better of him. He went to the head of the stairs and peeked down to see his Mom let Sarah in. They chatted briefly, but Jonny couldn't hear what was being said, so he crawled further down the steps to spy.

Jerry heard his mother say, "I think he's up in his room. He's a bit upset about this arrangement, but I think he'll be fine once I'm gone and he can't pout at me to try to make me feel sad. She gave a little laugh. Then she turned and called before she saw her son on the steps, "Jonny, come down now. Sarha's here..." She saw Jonny and finished more quietly. "I have to leave right now, and I want you to show Sarah where everything is."

She looked back at the teen and said, "Emergency and neighbor numbers are on the fridge."

Meanwhile, Jonny got up and headed back upstairs. When his mother turned back around she was now a little upset, "Jonathan Mason, come right down here like I said. I know you're not happy, but I need you down here before I go."

Jonny stopped going up, but didn't start down now. Mommy had not only called him Jonathan but by both names, Jonathan Mason, that meant she was more serious, maybe serious enough to spank, but certainly serious enough to swat.

Jonny came back almost all the way down stopping on the second step out of reach just in case. His mother looked at him, "Can you say hello like a little gentleman?' Jonny gave a little wave.

Sarah Conner's smiled at Johnny when he gave her his little wave. the 16 year old girl was tall for a girl, and had sandy brown hair, dark brown eye's and a tan completion, she had been Johnny's neighbor from the day he was born, and knew him fairly well.

"I'm sure Johnny will be a perfect little Gentleman for me as usual." she said, oh sure, Sarah might only be 16, but she was fast on her way to being a mother, when she was older of course. as such she earned money by babysitting for the local area, she was almost always on call. as usial she had a note book with her. "before you leave Ma'am." she said opening the notebook to the page with Mason on it. this was her 'family rules' book, early in her babysitting career she had realized that different houses naturally had different rules.

Some parents had also tried to clam she worked less hours then she really did, so she had each parent review and sign her notebook prior to them leaving, inside was Sarah's hand written notes about the family rules, emergency numbers which she kept with her at all times, contact addresses, permissions to go to different area's of the city, what types of punishment's were and weren't allowed, ect.

"Just need to confirm the rules haven't changed" Sarah said offering the book to Johnny's mother along with a pen.

Katherine smiled at Sarah. One thing she liked about the girl was she was organized. She took the book and looked at it. She said, "I'm not sure how you can contact me to day. I'll be at the Cummings company. This is their main number." she wrote a number down. "I'll be gone most of the day."

She looked up for a moment. "Mrs. Neville has said you've been 'handling things' with Tommy." She knew Sarah would understand so she didn't specify further in front of Jonny. She took the pen and under "time out, corner time, early bed time,' she added 'spanking'. She handed the book to Sarah saying "I trust it won't be necessary but just in case." She reached out and took the notebook again. and added '(pants down)' after it and one more note "paddle in kitchen drawer if warranted. D rules.' which she underlined. She gave the book back. "Jonny will tell you about those. It might be good for a review."

SHe handed Sarah some money so they could call for a pizza for lunch if she wished. Then hugged her son. "Show Sarah where everything is and be a good boy for her."

Jonny hugged his mother and ran to the window in the living room to watch her drive off. He waved, but couldn't see if she waved back.

"yes ma'am." Sarah said and took her book back. replacing it in her purse. then nodded "Best of luck at the interview Ma'am." she added. she didn't need to look at the book with the 'hints' she was dropping for her. nether would she embarrass Tommy by stupidly asking.

As Tommy's Mother drove away she took her book out and scanned the page, nodding that nothing really had changed. "so Tommy, How have you been lately?" she asked Tommy once his mother had left. "enjoying the summer?" she added.

(Tommy was the other boy's name :-)

Jonny said, "I've been good. The summer's been hot. We gotta fan. I's s'posed to show you everything."

He took Sarah's hand and led her down the hall. "That's Mommy's office room. We can't play in there." Jonny unconsciously gave a quick rub to his bottom as he said that remembering what had happened last Sunday when he'd broken that rule.

They went into the family kitchen. The kitchen part was pretty neat, but Jonny's toys were strewn over the area in front of the TV. "This is the family room. I help Mommy in the kitchen sometimes."

They headed upstairs. "This is my room" he announced. It was obvious it was a little boy's room. His discarded PJs were still on the floor along with many toys. Jerry looked around then asked a rather unusual question, "Sarah does your mommy make you make your bed?"

"Yes. she dose." Sarah said raising an eye brow at the state of Johnny's room. as Johnny completed his tour around his house she smiled "maybe you should clean up your toys a bit before we start playing little one." she said, another key thing she did was try and keep whoever had hired her and help them as much as she could.

and one easy way to do that was help clean up a bit. it wasn't too hard, though there had been more then a few battles with some of her charges at that bit. but it wasn't anything really she couldn't handle. most of the kids she watched knew her and her rules. and knew that she would follow there parents instructions without question, the parents word was Law with Sarah. within reason.

Jonny pouted at the answer to that question. He didn't wish to make his bed and wanted some evidence to give to his mother about how unreasonable the rule was. "Every Day?" Jonny asked and Sarah nodded. Jonny scowled.

He came back to the center of the room and looked at the toys. Which to play with and which to put away. He decided blocks went away. He dragged out the block bag and began to put them away. He also put the books back in the bookshelf. But then he was ready to play. "We can make the bed later." he said. Then added, "Before Mommy comes home."

"yes. Every day." Sarah said with a half smile at his look. when he gave her his make the bed later line she thought about it. "Alright Johnny. But I want you to know that it's a promise. and I WILL hold you to it." She said.

once that was clear she smiled "How about we head to the park?" she offered the boy. figuring that would be something he'd enjoy. and they both could use the sun shine anyway.

Jonny nodded. He knew it had to get made because he'd already told him mother it was made and she did not like lying -- not in the slightest. But going to the park drove everything else out of his mind. "YEAH!" her said.

He raced out of his room and down the stairs. On the third-to-last-step he grabbed the banister and jumped. He was not supposed to do that, but it was only Sarah here not Mommy. He landed almost successfully in the hall except that the rug skidded up against the hall table and he fell on his bottom. But he wasn't hurt and giggled. He grabbed his Superman cap sitting on the chair by the door and announced, "Ready!"

"Johnny! how about you come back up the stairs and walk down like your Supposed to!" Sarah said from the top of the stairs. she was well awear of there family rules. and she KNEW Johnny knew it too. so there was no reason why he should think that he could get away with it.

as such she was going to give him a chance to walk back up and down like a proper young man. if he'd been hurt, or showed signs of being hurt, she would have canceled there trip to the park. but as he seemed okay this seemed enough.
