Aisu sighed as she looked around the small village, the voice that she knew no one could hear telling her to be sure to pick the right one, that they didn't need a spoiled brat that would only result to getting in petty fights.

Sighing inwardly and sending a mental curse at the voice she began to walk toward the village's market, which was near the wall of the village and a place where she could examine all that would come forward.

"Alright. As you know today is the day that I and a few others of the elite four have decided to find an apprentice that would carry on our emblems when the time comes." she announced to the large crowds, her eyes darting over them before she continued

"anyone who wants a chance to be chosen form a line along the village wall...I will question you one on one!"

Kato was looking at various pieces of fruit in one of the stands in the market when he saw a female samurai that was speaking to the crowd of people that was there. He chuckled a little at what she said and shrugged his shoulders. Eh, why not? I`m only 10, so I doubt I`ll get picked, but it`s worth a try. I do know some moves with a sword, after all. the young boy thought to himself as he did as the samurai had said and placed himself next to what was soon turning out to be a big line of young children and teens. A small smile was evident on his face.

Aisu sighed as she made her way down the line, talking to each child. Then she got to Kato. He seemed a bit different than most of the children, especially the way he was dressed.

"What are you called, how old are you and why did you decided to try out?" she asked, just like she had with the others.

She knew that when she found the right one her sword would tell her, after all...the apprentice would one day be the hire to the blade and not just anyone could wield a demon fanged sword like her own.

she just wondered how the new apprentice would react once that they heard the sword actually speak aloud for the first time.

that may prove quite amusing to watch. she thought, feeling the blade on her side pulse lightly in agreement.

Kato rightened his shirt a little just as the samurai woman stood in front of him. Kato wasn`t dressed like the other children in the line, he was from a very poor background. His family was very poor and as a result of that the young boy was made to work in the fields to help with harvesting at an early age. This had made him resourceful with swords and other objects. He gave the woman a bow out of respect. " My name is Kato. I`m ten years old. I wanted to try out because it seems interesting and to get a better job than harvesting out in the fields." he stated as his brown eyes looked up at her, he was once again wearing a small smile on his face since he didn`t feel as nervous as he had thought he would.

Aisu smirked a bit at the mental voice's thought.
"tell me...when would you feel the need to take a life boy?" she asked, something she hadn't done with the others.

Kato pondered the samurais question for a brief moment. " Hm. I would say that it would be right to do so if someone attacked me or if someone that I cared about was being assaulted or in any sort of danger." the boy stated as he ran a hand through his dark hair after having given his views on the matter presented to him by Aisu.

Aisu felt her sword shaking violently and pulsating.

"Very well....Come with me Kato. We'll go talk with your parents." She stated with a small grin.

Katos eyes widened slightly in surprise at what the woman said, but he nevertheless nodded his head. " Ok, ma`am. They`re out in the fields at the moment." he said softly as he stepped out of the line of children and started to walk towards the harvesting fields where he knew that his mom and dad was working at the moment. His dad noticed him and Aisu first. " Hi, son." he greeted the boy before rightening his clothes a little. " You must be the samurai...nice to meet you, miss." he greeted Aisu. " Did Kato get picked out?" he asked.

"yes...your son....he knows how to be a true warrior. You are lucky to have a child like him." Aisu stated then added "I would like to take him with me train. Of course I know that it would hinder you in the fields so I will pay you for your child's leave." Aisu stated, producing a velvet sack full of gold pieces.

Kato blushed a little as the samurai said that he knew how to be a true warrior. " Thank you so much, miss. It is an honor. I hope that he`ll make you proud." Katos father said as he gave his sorn a hug. " Take care of yourself, son...and be good, ok?" he said softly as he picked up the sack. " Your father is right...behave yourself and listen to what she tells you." Katos mom said softly as she too hugged the boy. " Good bye, mom and dad. I love you, too." Kato said softly as he hugged his parents before turning to leave with Aisu. " Did you mean what you said? Can I really be a good warrior?" he asked her.
