A Padawan's Troubles
Closed for Madcat
(This is a prequel to another RP we did)
************************************************** ********************
The young Trianii girl was hard to keep still and focused. So often, she'd end up staring out into space. Though she never really knew why. She liked being here, learning of the abilities she discovered when her parents were killed in that crazy raid. But it still seemed....difficult.......for her
As she currently lounges lazily in a tree in the gardens of the Jedi Temple, half basking in the midday sun, dappled by the leaves of the tree, her mind went through the disaster that took her parents, then the strange Jedi ship that came, and the Jedi pilots within, one of them having since become her Master and mentor here in the Temple.
She then thought of that Jedi. That strangely calm and always cold stare. She wondered if he had any emotion at all. Or if he did, why doesn't he show it? Granted she had nothing against him, and tries to learn what he teaches, but there seemed to be a barrier of some sort. Like in basic combat training, he'd suggest one thing, and her instinct says to do something else. And she immediately goes with her instinct
At this point, she honestly questioned if she could live this way. If she was truly meant to be here, to be a Jedi. Her nature would have others thinking otherwise, as she was not the type to sit still unless she really wanted to. But then again, she was also much more eager to explore this place. And she was at least trying to obey her Master and listen to his lessons. But that seems to conflict with her otherwise more playful nature
Soon, though, she stirs from her catnap and after stretching a bit, leaps down from the tree with ease and proceeds into the temple to find something to do, having basically forgotten where she should be right now

Elsewhere in the Temple, two Jedi Masters, both recently assigned new Padawans, spun through a dizzying display of lightsaber skill. Training sabers buzzed and crashed against one another as Xenari Korinshu, a tall, lithe Falleen, dueled with Siu Carterius, a Mirialan of unusually brawny build turned their considerable talents against one another. Korinshu was a reserved, tactical fighter, Carterius a brash, aggressive duellist, but it would be hard for anyone to say which was the better of the two watching them spar.
When Korinshu's communicator twittered, he pushed himself back and away from Siu with the aid of the Force, holding up his hand to indicate a pause. Carterius leapt after him, thinking this a feint, but reigned in when he saw his old friend raise a hand to his head, speaking into the communicator.
As Korinshu looked up, Siu saw the look on his face and laughed, "First day and already problems, eh? These new Padawans are turning out to be quite the challenge!"
Korinshu sighed and wiped a towel across his face, "Oh? I heard the two you've received are more than a handful. A boy and a girl, are they not? Hmm, well, we shall talk of this later. I need to learn of this new calamity."
Carterius nodded and snapped his training saber off, returning it to the rack, "Very well. We still on for pazaak later this week?"
Korinshu nodded with a wave as he departed the training hall, "Certainly! This time, don't let me win so much!" Carterius' reply was cut off by the door hissing shut behind the Falleen. Almost instantly, his hand was on his communicator once more.
"Kitara," he said into the device, "Where are you? More importantly, where are you supposed to be?" Inwardly, he sighed. Though she was not his first Padawan, she was the first to be this troublesome this early. His previous padawans, while he'd been a Knight, striving to pass the Trials of Mastery, had not been flawless experiences, but he'd learned much about them, about himself, and about the art of teaching during those years.

The young Trianii Padawan glanced around in confusion at hearing her communicator beep as she leisurely explored the halls of the great temple
She moved off to a secluded section and looked at it. Being from a race that has a knack for technology, it seems odd that there'd be one born without such a natural intellect for the stuff
As she fumbles with the device on her wrist, she manages to turn it on and heard her Master's voce coming through. She face palms, having completely forgotten she was supposed to be with him training right now
Not sure what to do, she tries to focus on the Force, attempting to sense where he is

Korinshu was not particularly hard to find through such means, his own signal through the Force being something of a lighthouse. Still, for one as inexperienced in the Force as Kitara was, it was still a few false turns and turnabouts later until she encountered the Falleen Master, moving towards her himself as he was.
Finding her, he stopped and folded his arms across his chest in disapproval, "Is your communicator broken, young lady?"

"I can't help that I don't know how to use it" Kitara said bitterly as he came into view
And it wasn't just that. For reasons unknown, she had a lousy sense of direction, hence why she was in the gardens. She really was on her way to meet up with him, and basically got lost. So she just took advantage of being at the gardens and rested a while, losing track of time in the process
No sense of direction, poor technology skills, and poor memory. So much for starting off training the right way. So much for wanting to please her Master and wanting to learn the ways of the Force
She stood there, slightly pouting as her ears drooped in sadness. Inwardly, she cursed herself for being a pathetic example of her race

Korinshu tilted his head, "It's very simple, here, I'll show you."
He crouched down to put himself on eye-level with Kitara. Though the Trianii were a tall race as adults, she had rather a lot of time to go until then. "When someone calls you, that's the blinking light there," he explained patiently, "You press the blue button to connect to them, and then speak at the device. Their image will appear on the holo-screen there. When you're done talking to them, press the red button here to close the connection. We'll talk about making calls another time."
He settled down onto his knees, sitting back on his haunches, "Now that that is out of the way, let's go back to my first two questions, one at a time. Where have you been?"

Kitara still stood there pouting as he described how to use the communicator. She looked up at him as he has she she'd been
"I was one my way to meet up with you" she said, once more looking anywhere but at him "But I have a hard time knowing where to go. I ended up in the gardens, and just stayed there for a while. I had no idea how long I was there. I.....I guess......I guess I forgot about everything else"

Korinshu sighed, "Did you, by chance, stop to ask for directions? There's guide-droids and guards all over the place, not to mention rather a fair number of Knights around the Temple who are only too glad to help."
That last bit was not exactly true, though Korinshu had no way of knowing it. With the war against the Sith continuing, many of the Knights normally on duty at the Temple were less than thrilled to be there, and they were fewer and fewer, replaced instead by droids or Rangers, a militant order that supported the Jedi Temple but were not, themselves, Force-Sensitives.
"... and I suppose that leads me to the answer to my second question. You knew where you were supposed to be, but decided that the gardens were close enough?"

"I don't like asking for help" Kitara hissed "I don't like being looked at as weak or helpless. I can't help it that my memory doesn't want work"
She then slumped to the floor, tears threatening to form "What kind of Jedi could I possibly be if I can't even do the simplest things?" she said as her throat choked up a bit "I'm hopeless"

"Despite what the records say, no one who has ever set foot in this temple has been a perfect Jedi from the very beginning. Some might be skilled with the Force, others take to the lightsaber as if they were born to it, while others are ace pilots or brilliant researchers or inspired diplomats. However, not a *single* *one* of them has ever been perfect at everything at the beginning, and not one of them has never needed help with something."
He lightly tapped her nose, "And *you* are neither useless nor helpless. Already you have demonstrated a strong affinity with the Force, already have I seen how you augment that which comes naturally to you through the Force. Your speed, your agility... at times your strength."
"Let go of your fear," he said, slightly scolding, "It will not help you here. If there are those who tell you that you are weak and helpless, then tell me who these are, and I shall see to it that they set right in their opinion."
He shook his head slightly, "I have told you many times that we are all here to help you, myself, the other Masters, the Knights. Even the padawans who are further along in their training are only too-willing to help, for such action reflects well on them and their Masters. Did I not tell you these things before?"
