A super childhood { Railover
Connor Kent hadn't been aware that his idol Clark Kent already had a biological son of his own when he was taken in. Jon Kent was so perfect, the boy just couldn't compete, and he knew for a fact he was Clark's favourite, but he tried his best to please the man he called Pa all the same. Things got a little better when Clark started dating a man named Hal Jordan and the two of them raised him and his brother with much love and discipline. It was as if Hal had always been a Kent, he took to farm life so quickly.
"Hal? Where's Pa? And the biological Kent?" Connor asked, in one of his sour moods that morning because well...it was five in the morning and they had a Sunday service at six in the morning for Easter. It was tradition to have it at sunrise. The fifteen year old rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and sighed. "Do I have to go to this service Hal?"
Hal looked up and smiled. "Your Pa and your brother are outside in the woodshed finishing up the cross." he answered, Hal was never really unhappy, he could be disappointed in his children, but he was generally a happy man. "Do you think you can try carry it around town?"
"No." Connor huffed.
"Oh suit yourself Mister Misery." Hal tutted. "And in response to your earlier question, yes you have to go to the Service, it's Easter after all."
"Easter's a silly old Holiday...I mean the only thing good about it is the Chocolate eggs..." Connor frowned. "Speaking of which, did you get me a big one this year?"
Hal gave him a sly smile. "Oh I don't know, I think you might be getting too old for silly old Easter eggs." he teased. "And you might not really see the true meaning behind Easter right now, but as dedicated Christians, your Pa and I find it very important. Jesus died for us, remember?"
"Yeah...I don't like the whole whipping and nailing someone to a cross bit though..." Connor frowned. "It's too sad.."

Clark Kent found it vert difficult to get his two young sons to understand that, to him, they were the same. He didn't care that he had Jon with someone as compared to Conner who just showed up in his life. He loved them both the same... However, he knew the two boys still saw each other as very different. He thought that would be made better when Hal came around because he saw the two boys the same way he did but it didn't, at least it didn't appear to change anything.
On the bright side, both of the boys seemed to get along with Hal, especially Jon. It didn't surprise Clark all that much, the young ten-year-old got along with just about anyone. The best part of that was that he could try to spend more time with Conner, although it seemed to not work like that with how busy they all were.
This morning, two of the four boys of the house had gotten up very early to finish up their cross. Every year they volunteered to make the new one for the church, and Clark made sure to get both boys to work on it however they could. This year Jon seemed to be doing the most work with it.
"Think it'll hold, Pa?" The young boy asked as they finally stood it up. He could hear (thanks to his super hearing) that Conner and Hal were up, which was good. He didn't want to be late today.
"It should be alright, if not I'll make some extra nails so we can fix it up there," Clark explained as he looked the cross over. It was probably their best one yet, "Alright, let's head in and get cleaned up before the service."

Conner wouldn't have minded working on the cross with Jon, but he knew the boy liked to take charge and decide what went where, and Conner didn't much feel like being bossed about by someone half his size. Besides he didn't want to have to think more about the Easter story, the whole thing was just so brutal to him. He was dreading the service because he was sure they would roll a film clip of the crucifixion and Conner didn't like that sort of thing, he begged Hal to let him stay home but Hal refused because he thought Conner wasn't old enough.
"Here comes the biological Kent." Conner muttered under his breath when Jon came in, immediately he was all smiles when Hal came over to make a fuss of him. Hal made a fuss over the both of them, but Jon was younger so he got more fussing, he got to be carried and cuddled much more than Conner, in fact neither Hal nor Clark carried him unless they HAD to.
"Hey there buddy." Hal grinned, scooping Jon up into his arms and throwing him up. He and Jon always had so much energy in a morning, Conner couldn't understand it. He liked his bed and he liked sleeping in and being lazy, like most teenagers. Hal threw Jon up one more time and caught him before grinning. "How's that cross coming along, kiddo?" he asked, curious to see his son's hard work.
"Ugh who cares about crosses, can't we have our Easter eggs now?" Conner asked, rolling his eyes.
Hal rose a brow, "Not til after dinner." he told Conner, "I'm making lamb and roast potatoes and veggies." he smiled. "I'll even make the mint dipping sauce you like so much."
"Great.." Conner huffed, he just wanted his chocolate! He caught Clark's eye and frowned, "Pa, couldn't I just have ONE of my eggs?" he pleaded. "Please?"

Jon had always been very bossy, but he never did it to be mean. He was so used to being able to do whatever he wanted before Conner came along, so even though a lot of time had passed he was still adjusting to that. Besides, the two boys thought a lot differently and Jon just thought his way was better. It was quicker most of the time anyway.
The younger boy wasn't as bothered by the story, but it might be he didn't really understand how awful it was. He didn't watch the video because Clark thought it was too violent for him, and while he knew the story it just didn't click for him yet, it would as he got older though.
He smiled and ran over to Hal as he came in, laughing as the man tossed him up into the air. He loved doing that with the man, while Clark did it sometimes it was better when Hal did it because he didn't go as high. He grinned when asked about the cross, "It's all done! Me and Pa just finished it up!" He explained.
Clark sighed at when Conner said, he really wished the young teen didn't resent his brother so much. He really wanted the boys to get along and love each other. He wanted them to have the relationship that he always wanted with a brother, "Conner, you know I don't like you calling Jon 'the biological kid'," He reprimanded lightly.
He smiled at what Hal said he was making for dinner, "Sounds great, hun. Will you need any help with that?" He asked he had no problem helping if he was needed.
He looked over to Conner when he asked about his eggs and shook his head, "It's far too early for chocolate, Con. However, if you behave during the service you can have one after. Deal?" He offered, his ma used to do the same thing on Easter so it was only fair.

Conner would sometimes find himself in trouble for picking on Jon, he'd scare him with the idea of the house being haunted or put on a clown mask to scare him at night. He and Jon were always bickering about one thing or another and Conner wasn't against hitting or kicking Jon to make the kid do as he said. Last week he got a strapping from Clark for punching Jon in the arm when he tried to take the remote from him. Jon STILL had the bruise, and he had cried at the time.
He frowned when Clark said that he knew he didn't like him calling Jon the biological kid. "But he is the biological kid, and I'm the kid you got stuck with." he answered with a shrug though the idea of that did hurt his heart a little.
"I don't want to go to the stupid service!" Conner huffed, grumpy and disagreeable because it was too early. "They're going to show some clip from the Passion of the Christ or something and I don't wanna see that, you KNOW how I feel about that sort of thing."
Hal looked horrified, he'd seen that movie once....and once was enough. "If they even think about showing that movie, I'll complain, it's way, way, way too graphic and horrible for kids, especially our Jon." he explained and then smiled at Jon when he said he and Clark just finished the cross up. "Oh that's great kiddo, I'm sure the Pastor's going to LOVE what you did." he said proudly, pretending to eat his ears because he was in a playful mood.
"I don't think they'll show anything like that, Connie." Hal assured, "And if they do, I'll whisk you off outside so you don't have to watch it, okay baby?"
"Well...alright." Conner nodded and smiled a bit, he liked being called baby now and again. "I still get nightmares from watching Prince of Egypt with all the slave whippings..." he shuddered.

Conner wasn't the only one at fault when it came to bickering, Jon certainly didn't help the situation. He knew how to push his brother's buttons and had no problem doing it because he thought it was funny. But he would always stop when he saw it was escalating, but usually, at that point, it was too late with Con. Jon would eventually learn that his brother took things to heart.
Clark frowned sadly when Conner said he got stuck with him, "OK, for starters, I didn't get stuck with you. I WANTED you here, buddy, as much as I want Jon and Hal here. And technically you are biologically mine too, you have half of my DNA," He said. He wasn't born in a typical way, but he had as much of his DNA as Jon did.
He looked over to Hal when they started talking about the clip, and sighed, "Con, don't call the service stupid, please. And yes, they will probably show a clip from The Passion, but I will not make you boys watch it. There aren't many kids at our service time so they tend to show it, Hal," He explained. It bothered him, but there wasn't much he could do.
He went over to Con and put an arm around him when they both promised he didn't have to see it, "We aren't ever going to make you do something that makes you uncomfortable bud, if you don't want to watch the clip you don't have too. But you will attend the rest of the service like any other week," He assured him. He didn't want to scare the boy after all.
Jon didn't mind the clip, but it was because he didn't really pay attention to it. His eyes lit up when Hal said the Pastor would like the cross, "You think so?" He asked in wonder. He hoped he did, they put a lot of work into this one.

Conner looked at Clark when he said he didn't get stuck with him, he WANTED him, just like he wanted Jon and Hal, and that technically he was biologically his. He hadn't really thought about it that way but decided he liked the sound of it, being a part of Clark just like Jon was meant a lot to him. "I guess you're right Pa." he answered and leaned into his side, feeling more snuggly right now.
"Sorry.." the boy said softly when Clark lightly scolded him for calling the service stupid. "Well I'm going to high tail it out of the hall before they get a chance to put it on." he decided, not wanting to see it or hear it at all.
Hal sighed, he didn't particularly want to watch it either but he would to remember what Jesus went through for them. "Well I think I might take Jon out of Service at that point, I don't want him having nightmares for eons." he sighed softly and smiled when the boy asked if he thought the Pastor would like the cross.
"I know so, it'll look perfect at the front of the church." Hal said softly and glanced at the time. He set Jon down and gave his bottom a pat. "Go get ready kiddo, we have to leave for church soon."
"Okay I'll attend the service but I refuse to watch the clip." Conner answered and smirked when Jon passed him, the boy putting his foot out to trip the younger boy up purposely.

Clark had always understood that Conner had his DNA, that was the only way he could have his powers and looks so much like him. He had never thought, then, that the boy had thought differently about it. But all his biological comments started to make sense then. He kept his arm around Conner and let him snuggle up to him, smiling down at him when he said he was right.
He chuckled some when Conner said he would 'high tail it' out before they showed the clip, "You need to stay until they start setting up, but when they do you're free to leave," He promised him. He would love for him to stay and get the message the clip was supposed to show, but he didn't want to give him nightmares either.
Jon looked up when Hal said he would take him out during the clip too and shook his head, "I'll be fine, Hal. It doesn't scare me," He assured the man. Sure it was bad, bud he knew it was a long time ago and that Jesus had to go through it for them.
He nodded and was quick to run upstairs when told. He didn't see Conner put his foot out, so he did indeed trip over his foot, but he was able to catch him so he didn't fall flat on his face, "Ugh," He said.
"Conner!" Clark scolded, frowning at the boy, "You know better than to trip your brother! Apologize!"

"Okay fine, I'll wait til they set up but then I'm gone like the Flash." Conner answered, honestly he'd rather just go back to bed and miss the service completely but he knew his Pa wouldn't allow that, so he had to go. He rolled his eyes when Jon explained that the film didn't scare him, he was making him out to look like some fraidy cat. Stupid Jon.
"Well alright but I'm covering your eyes at the more gruesome parts." Hal answered and ruffled Jon's hair before letting him go to get dressed. He frowned when Conner tripped him, and walked over, helping Jon back up to his feet. He was used to the boys fighting but it never made it any easier to watch.
"What? He got in the way of MY foot, he should have been looking where he was going. If anything Jon should apologize to my foot for knocking it." Conner answered and smirked over at his little brother. He was NOT about to apologize, the kid was making him look like a wimp, so he needed to be punished.
"Are you okay Jonny?" Hal asked, looking the boy over briefly. It sucked when they fought because Jon bruised so easily, and Conner often gave him bruises during their brawls. Jon was small so he fought mostly with words, but they could be just as painful as punches.
