Anyone up for a Game Jam?

Default Anyone up for a Game Jam?

We live in crazy times. If you're like me, people in your country are working from home, cancelling travel plans, and trying to stay indoors. And, if you're REALLY like me, you might be writing, drawing, and turning to the internet for distractions.

So, would anyone be up for another Game Jam?

I know that in the past, the fabulous Godspeak has been the coordinator, but I'd happily take that on if people are interested. I would want to host it in exactly the same way: set a deadline, come up with a random theme, and have people vote on their favorites.

As a game maker myself, I've found that the toughest part of these is budgeting the time to make the deadline -- but maybe, now that people are staying in more often, you might have more free time to be creative.

Of course, I do not want to minimize the global situation in any way. But since we're here and maybe stuck inside for a while, I thought, maybe we could make some awesome games to pass the time?

What do you think?

Sorry, I should have explained!

A while back, a user set up a "GAME JAM" in this forum that was basically a contest for game-makers to get creative. The user came up with a simple theme -- one time it was "paperwork" -- and would announce it at a designated time. Then everyone who wanted to compete would make a game with some connection to the theme (and, of course, to spanking). They would have about one week to make a text adventure, RPG, or flash game to share on this forum. Usually the games were small, but it was always really cool to see the different directions people would go in.Then users would vote to determine whose game was best.

It's been a while since we did one, but every so often you'll see a forum post marked "GAME JAM" come up -- that was a game created for one of the contests. I just saw one get an update recently, which is what made me think of it.

That's been me in the past, for sure -- but I always love when Game Jams come up anyway since it brings game makers out of the woodwork.

It also doesn't have to be a masterpiece. That's kind of what's cool about it -- a lot of the Game Jam games are really small, but the ideas inspire more games.

And more spanking games is what we all want!

I'm all for a game jam. They're the best excuse ever for trying out different settings, situations, and characters that I've always got bouncing around in my head.

I can’t make any games - but I’d certainly love to play anything anyone makes on here.

I would be up for a game jam. I would love to have an excuse to get more programming practice.

Depending on how my work responds to recent events I might be down for a jam.

@xio Keep in mind that your game can be as simple as a choose your own adventure. You don't even have to include links or anything. You just need a word processor and the ability to convert your document to a PDF.

^ This is so true. I had no programming experience, I downloaded Twine a couple of years back, and I've been making text adventures/choose your own adventures ever since. It's so. much. fun. You really don't need anything apart from an idea.

So if I were to start a Game Jam, would people turn out for it? Does anyone have any suggestions for when the deadline should be? I'd love to hear from more people, if possible. But it already seems like the interest is there...
