An Unexpected Guest

A secretary had an open letter as she walked through the main area, heading up on the elevator to the top floor. Once there she went straight into the large office,"Sir, I'm sorry for barging in but this letter just arrived. And you might want to read it.",she said handing it over.

Mr.Wolfe, A tall gentleman dressed in a well made business suit, was staring out the large window overlooking the city below him. He had devoted everything to reaching to top, though the view he had always sought never brought him any solace. He stood at 6'4" a fairly imposing figure, he had deep green eyes and short black hair.

He turns to face the interloper, and takes the letter, "Very good, now get back to work." he turns to look out the window as the secretary leaves. He reads the letter.

She nodded,"Yes sir.",was said before she hurried back to her own floor. The letter was from the child care services,'Dear, Mr. Wolfe. A month ago a woman named, Flora Raine got caught in a fatal car accident leaving her daughter Mabel Anastasia behind. After a few DNA tests it has been shown she is your daughter. You have to option of adopting her or we'll locate a good orphanage for her. We'd like you to come to the state of Ohio to settle it.'

Mr.Wolfe clenches the letter in his hand... the news cut doubly deep, Flora had died.... there was a time when they were close....very close, that was about seven years ago... his father passed and he had to chose the business or his heart, he was younger then, dumber, He left her to reach the top, and never heard from her again... he had hoped She had found someone that could give her the life he didn't.... then the letter had only cut deeper, Flora had never said she was pregnant... most likely because he was such an ass about leaving his mark on the world.

What should he do now, the easy answer would be to burn the letter, forget about it, the girl would find a family.....though he would only be making the same mistake again.

He sits at his desk and gets to work. First sending his top body guard to the address on the envelope to give Mr.Vold a head start.

He calls the contact number, and after informing them who he was he asks to speak to his daughter Mabel.

The line was quiet for a moment before a soft voice was heard, it sounded tired and quite sad,"H-Hello?",said the girl, a bit of sniffling coming through.

A stern voice replies "Mabel? I'm your father. I... heard about what happened. I'm sorry, dear. Are you hurt?"

"You're my daddy?.... Mommy used to talk about you...",she said before a few more sad sniffles were heard,"I'm fine... But the people here are meanies... They said mean things bout my mommy...".

He takes a deep breath "Yes Mabel, I've been very busy, but I'm not about to just leave you there alone. This will be a different life for you, but I would like you to come live with me. Would you like that Mabel?"

"Mommy said you had your head in the clouds... You can fly?",she asked softly before there was a pause,"Yes please Daddy. I don't like it here.",Mabel stated with a little huff.

There was a dry chuckle as Mr.Wolfe glances out the window, actually seeing some clouds rolling in over the city below him. "heh heh heh, no Mabel, daddy just lives very high up, I will show you when you arrive then. I've sent my top man to go and pick you up. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to pull you away from where you wanted to be. His name is Mr.Vold, he is a little scary looking but I promise he won't hurt you, he's scary to protect you from people that might try and hurt you okay?"
