Austin’s Time at the La Fay Manor

The city was bustling, as it always was. New York wasn’t called the “City That Never Sleeps” for no reason after all. On the isle of Manhattan, untold numbers of people were attending to their own business. As many people that lived on this isle, not all of them were prosperous. Many of them were homeless, just trying to stay alive.

One of them was a nine-year-old boy named Austin. He had blonde, shoulder-length straight hair and forest-green eyes. He also had three scratch marks on his left cheek. He was an orphan. But he was... different from most people.

He had... magic. That was the only way to describe it. He always knew who to “acquire” food and money from, who could afford to loose it, and when was the best moment to take it. He was also able to always stay ahead of any pursuer.

He scanned the crowd, choosing his next “donation giver”.

In the busy streets of New York, a young woman was walking down the street through the crowds, this woman held an air of sophistication to her, and one that showed as she walked with grace, normally she would have had her driver take her around the city but it had been such a nice day she had decided to walk around and enjoy the sights of the city.

This young lady was Duchess Christina La Fay, dressed lightly for the day in a light Violet dress that went down to her knees and flowed freely in the wind, with a large white sun hat on her head and her purse in her hand as she walked through the streets.

She had just finished her business in the city the day before and was enjoying the sights before she returned to her estate and La Fay Manor, where she taught wayward students, her business here had been to do with her family company and meetings with the new york branch of it all, something she could have done without, she was eager to get back to her two adoptive daughters Helen and Violet hoping that Violet had behaved herself in the week she'd been away.

As she walked down the street she stiffened for a second feeling eyes on her but didn't feel any malice in them and so continued on to enjoy her day seeing the sights

Austin saw the woman with long platinum-blond hair and instantly though ‘jackpot.’ He began to make his regular routine. Using the size of the crowds and his small size to his advantage, he slowly moved closer to the target. Once he was close enough, he tripped himself and bumped into her!

“Gah! Sorry Ms!” Whilst “bumping” into her, he quickly grabbed some money from her pocket. Not staying to listen he rushed off, much faster then a boy his age and health should have been able to.

As Christina was looking around she didn't notice the young boy till he bumped into her, as he did he caught her attention, she was about to tell him to be more careful when he suddenly started running. She blinked for a minute and reach to her pocket and felt that it was empty that the little bit of money she had in it was gone.

For someone like Christina such a small amount was noting really, given she came from such a wealthy family, she had a lot more where that came from, but it was the act that made her turn and start after the boy, she didn't like thieves, and she knew exactly how to deal with them as she started to move after him her longer strides easily making up for the young boys speed as she started after him glad she had her hairbrush in her bag she would need it to deal with this boy once she caught him and asked his parents permission of course.

Seeing her catching up, the boy made a sharp left turn into the ally ways. He caused trash cans to fall behind him! Then when he came to a fence, he proceeded to... summon a power around himself and jump over the fence! This power was of a great help to the boy. However, once he jumped over the fence, he slowed to a casual jog. Rich people, if they bothered to follow him, never did so after he had jumped a fence. They were to “proper” for that.

As Christina followed the young boy around the corner into the alley she had to pause for a moment to step around the falling trash cans, but when she saw the boy again her eyes widened seeing what she recognised as magical energy circling the boy before it launched him up and over a large wooden fence in the alley and launched himself over it.

Christina had never imagined that she would encounter a child with magical abilities such as her, it was a well-kept secret that the La Fay family were descended from Morgana Le Fay from the stories of Camelot, Myrddin Emrys, and King Arthur, but they vigorously deny it given the woman's last act before she died.

Shaking herself from her shock Christina continued forward not caring for the fence as her eyes glowed as she approached it the area in front of her on the fencing rippling like water as she strode through it undeterred as the continued her pursuit and saw her target ahead of her.

"I believe you have something that belongs to me young man" she stated firmly as she left the fence behind her

Austin tripped for real this time and looked behind him in shock. “Impossible...” Then he shook his head and decided this called for his secret weapon! Closing his eyes, he reached out and summoned the shadows to him, creating a shield of darkness around himself! This was umbramancy, shadow magic!

(Umbramancy is not dark magic. It is not evil, it’s just the manipulation of darkness.)

Christina blinked seeing his use of such an advanced magic, and such a form that was concidered to be questionable among magic users, but she wouldn't let it deter her as her eyes glowed a bright blue and ribbons of white magic came out of her and speared towards the dome of shadows and pierced it quite easily before expanding and tore the dome apart as christian stood there watching on sternly.

"There's no hiding from me little one, your control is impressive for someone your age, but I am far more experienced in the command and use of magic" she stated pointedly

“No!” He called when the ribbons tore his shield apart! Who was this woman?! “Fine, take it!” Austin reached into his pocket and tossed out the money he had taken.

Then he tried to run again!

Christina narrowed her eyes as the few coins he had taken were tossed at her, she ignored them for now as she watched him run, but she wasn't going to let him get away so easily as her eyes glowed and her ribbons moved and wrapped around the boys waist lifting him up.

"Not so fast young man, I believe I would like to have a word with your parents about how their son is abusing his magic to steel from people on the street" she stated as her ribbons brought him back to her
