Fire Emblem: Ylissean Tales
The silence of a battlefield after the fight had always unnerved Queen Maribelle, especially given her position in the army. Alongside Libra, Lissa, and Brady, she would ride her horse up and down the bloodied field, trying to find survivors to rescue. Sometimes they were grateful, and sometimes they begged for death. It could be heartrending. But today, the somber emotions that usually flooded her heart in the wake of a battle were gone... replaced by anger and worry. Her future daughter, Lucina, had strayed from the group and charged off to save a "villager" from an axeman's attack. Maribelle, very proficient in magic, had apparently taught her daughter all about illusions as a child. She should have been able to recognize that the image of the villager was created by an enemy mage to lure her into a trap.

Battlefields upon battlefields upon battlefields...that was Lucina's life once both her parents helplessly perished. A factor that has lead the teenager to develop some of her own instincts in fields of war...as well as lose valuable lessons taught by someone else as the blunette's teachings of illusion awareness have almost completely vanished. This was quickly proven by was quickly the Falchion user charges off to barely block the swing of the axeman's axe in time. "You okay villager?" Lucina tries to ask while pushing back the axeman's weapon, unaware of the trap she has most likely dove into.

Maribelle shuddered as she recalled the ghost of the villager vanishing and the arrows flying toward Lucina. It was very nearly her final battle, and would have been if Gerome hadn't shown up on Minerva and whisked her away. Now, as they made camp for the night on their way to Valm, Maribelle couldn't stop shaking. Chrom was equally as disturbed, and he and his wife had a long talk about what to do next. They eventually decided to give Lucina a day to recover. And then they'd start with the questioning.

"Wha-" the blunette couldn't finish her words at how shocked she was when the illusion not only faded away but also at the sight of the arrows flying towards her. Lucina may be a few things but delusional isn't one of them as she knew that Gerome saved her life and couldn't bring herself up to say anything when they set up camp, especially when she saw both how disturbed her father looks and the way her mother was practically trembling.
So guilty feeling, at least because of her making her parents feel dread and worry, that the blunette only spent a couple hours on her own before approaching the tent that her mother would be in. She took a couple seconds to spot that Maribelle was on her own before speaking up. "M-Mother..." Lucina nervously voice out as she took a couple slow steps in.

"Lucina..." was all Maribelle trusted herself to say. She was torn between anger and relief. Part of her wanted to lunge forward and seize the princess by her shoulders, demanding an explanation for her foolishness. But another, larger part of her wanted to embrace the girl, her eldest child, and never let go. Her motherly instincts won out in the end, and she pulled Lucina into a crushing hug, smoothing her long hair with a trembling hand. "Lucina, darling. Thank the gods... I've never had such a shock in all my days..."

The way her name was called out sent a momentary shiver down the blunette's spine as her memories often bring her back to how strict her mother has been in her past and Lucina could clearly tell that one of the emotions in Maribelle's eyes was anger. However, possibly out of how devastated the swordswoman feels about what she has put her parents through, she couldn't read the rest of her mother's emotions.
So to be suddenly pulled into a hug that'd crush bears definitely surprised Lucina as, out of guilt of causing the trembling she could feel in the hand smoothing her lengthy hair, she starts to tear up again as she hear Maribelle speak of how she 'never had such a shock' like the one the swordswoman gave her. "I-I'm sorry m-m-m-" the teenager tearfully tries to bring out as she slumps her head on her mother's shoulder.

Lucina's apology made Maribelle hold her tighter. Trembling though she was, she couldn't cry. She seldom cried, especially when she felt there was no need to. It didn't befit her station as queen of Ylisse to do so, and it wouldn't teach Lucina the strength she needed her to have. Eventually, she drew back from the hug, holding her daughter by the shoulders. "Really, my dear, whatever were you thinking?" Her voice was softer now. "What would your father and I do if you were injured? What would your brother do? And what of your friends? Surely you knew better."

The tighter hold was responded to by the blue haired teenager snuggling closer into her mother's hold, easily feeling how much Maribelle is trembling and could feel more tears going down her face. This is definitely not the side of the Princess of Ylisse that many would get to see. Maybe that could be out of shame or maybe even sadness of how much she hurt her own mother.
'Really, my dear, whatever were you thinking?'
Though no longer hugged Lucina would've appreciated Maribelle's hands on her shoulders as the blunette uses one of her hands to wipe some tears off her youthful face while she was questioned. "I-I should've known..." the blunette finally brings out a start to her answer after a couple sniffles. "I-I shouldn't have fa-fallen for s-such a trick...b-b-but I c-couldn't let an-another villager d-d-die again..." Lucina sniffled a little more, mentally kicking her own backside for letting her instinct make her fall for such an easy illusion. "I-I-I'm s-sorry..." the blue haired swordswoman adds in before hanging her head down in guilt of worrying all of those close to her.

"I know, darling. And I will admit, I'm not nearly as upset with you as I am with the situation." That didn't mean Maribelle wasn't upset with her at all, but heartbreak over the idea of Lucina dying occupied more of her feelings at the moment than did anger over her foolish mistake. Maribelle kissed the side of the teenager's head. After several moments of holding her, she finally drew back. "Lucina, dear. May I ask you a question? How do you believe my future self would have reacted to this situation? What would I have done had I seen you charge into battle, fall for a simple illusion, and nearly die as a result?"

Lucina could easily tell that her mother was still upset with her but is currently more affected by how close the blunette was to dying to probably voice it out. The blunette knew it was all down to a stupid mistake on her part and, on the inside, the guilt is practically eating away at the princess. The kiss to the side of her head did help bring the teenager back from her miserable state as, after a bit of time, she manages to calm down somewhat in time to hear Maribelle's latest question.
' How do you believe my future self would have reacted to this situation? What would I have done had I seen you charge into battle, fall for a simple illusion, and nearly die as a result?'
"Well...she'd be angry..." Lucina started with probably the most obvious answer possible. But the way she shuffled a little uncomfortably probably shows that there is more to said answer. "Angrier than anything imaginable...by far the scariest thing I've ever seen...s-she w-would've been extremely mad with me an-and ev-ev-even give me a-" she bit her lip for a moment with a blush on her face "-spanking," the girl's face lit up at merely mentioning that one word. "Ther-There have been ma-many times I've been un-unable to sit down f-for the rest of t-the day..." Lucina softly admits to her mother.
