The Farmers Pup (for Sassy_World900)

It was a warm late afternoon in October in Lupus Valley, a small farming community nestled between two hills that neighboured an expansive forest. Whilst the forest was typically of no concern to the farmers that lived on the outskirts of the town, there had been occurrences where strange creatures had emerged to make off with crops and livestock. These creatures appeared at first to be animals, but reportedly, were able to shift into a human form at will, though there had been too few witnesses to confirm these rumours.

Whilst harvest had more or less ended what with the approach of Fall, there was one farmer who nevertheless continues to patrol his land to ensure its defence from invaders. This man in particular, was called Roy Patterson, a tall broad man in his late thirties with short brown hair and a light coating of stubble on his face.

Whilst the story may have seemed absurd to him at the time, he supposed that there must be at least some truth to it, prompting the increase in vigilance in his approach to farming. Striding through his field in a worn overcoat, Roy held a double barrelled shotgun under his arm, his dark blue eyes constantly shifting from left to right as he kept an eye out for any sign of movement.

As Roy Patrol his land. He could hear a snap sound in the corn field. It's was a sound of someone stepping on a twig, it was the sound of someone snapping an ear off a stock. Now it could just nature at play and fell off of it's own or even the wind, but that was not the case. It was in fact a little girl.


She was bit on the small side. Her brownish red hair was long, all the way down to her lower back, fill with knots, leaves and twigs. Wearing dirty raggy clothes that look like a tank top and a a pair of shorts, no shoes on her dirt covered feet. There was also some scrapes and bruises all over her body. Looking a bit on the thing side.


She got whiff of the food and her stomach rumbled. She figured she will grab a snack and then head back to the forest nearby.

Just as he was preparing to head back to his farmhouse, Roy heard a snapping sound coming from his cornfield, prompting him to sharply turn in the direction of the sound and proceed to stalk towards its source.

As he crept through the cornfield, his shotgun still cradled in his arm, the farmer would soon hear what sounded like munching, with a small shape soon becoming visible through the tall stalks of corn. It wasn't long after that before the farmer was close enough to make out the outline of what appeared to be a small child, who even in her semi concealed state appeared quite clearly unkempt.

Despite being glad that at least he wasn't dealing with some type of ferocious magical beast as had been implied before, the farmer still frowned and reached forward through the corn, grabbing what felt like the back of the childs vest before pulling her up off the ground to dangle in front of him, allowing him to get his first proper look of the scruffy little girl.

"Just what do you think you're doing?" he growled, still frowning at the little girl as he held her out in front of him, "stealing corn is it? Do you know what happens to thieves round
these parts?".

Se was shredding the corn when she felt something grabbed her from behind. Letting out a yelp, that sounded like that of a pup. She sees that she was floating off the ground and gasped. Before she looks over her shoulder and sees that a strange man had her. Most likely the land owner. She looks him in the face and sees a cold stare on his face. When which does find intimated, but she tries her best to look brave.


The man then asked her what she was doing and what happens to thieves around her. Before she could say anything, her stomach let out a loud growl. A sign that she was still very hungry. Even so she wiggles around and tries to escape his grasp.

Despite the small childs attempts to free herself, Roy continued to hold her out in front of him by the scruff of her tattered vest, as he wondered what sort of parent was allowing their child to run around unattended this far out of town. She definitely wasn't any of the nearby farms children either, as there was only a few of them and Roy knew them all by name.

"You're not going anywhere until you tell me where you came from" the farmer scolded angrily, though his expression did soften momentarily when he heard the loud grumbling coming from the girls stomach.

She stopped struggling for a moment when he told her he wasn't letting go until he tells her where she came from. Thinking that once she did, he will. "Fine." she grumbles with a pout on her face. She then raised her hand up and point over to the nearby forest. Which no one lives there. Unless you count the wild animals there. From birds, deer, skunks, and the most dangerous wolves. Which no farmer is a stranger to in these parts. Since most loose a chicken or even a sheep each year to them.

Turning his head to look in the direction that the pouty child was pointing, Roy adopted a slightly more curious expression, as it had never occurred to him that there might be people living within the woodland expanse nearby. "Is that where your parents live?" he demanded, though he spoke in a slightly less angry tone this time.

"...I have a mom....I...just don't know where she is." she said. Her voice getting softer with each word she said. For it's been a long time since that fateful day when her mom and her were split up. It was dark, loud booming sound with no cloud in the sky and her mother telling her to run and not to look back.

When the child admitted that she didn't know where her mother was, Roy pinched the bridge of his nose and sighted, as it seemed this situation was going to be harder to resolve than he initially expected. "Okay" he grumbled with barely concealed frustration, "well, I'm sure she can't be too far, when was the last time you saw her?". Whilst he was still more than a little annoyed with the little girl, part of him felt he should reserve some irritation for when he got a chance to speak to her mother, as he already had a few choice words in mind for what he was going to say to the woman once he was finally able to reunite her with her errant child.

When asked where the last time she saw her mother. She looks down with a sadden expression. "In the forest. There was a strange sound and she told me to run." she tells him.
