The sky was lit orange by the setting sun, and the small town began to wind down as night soon approached. The only sounds heard were the turning off of lights, the locking of doors, and strangely enough, the sound of a pair of tiny feet running, with many bigger feet chasing after. The figure running appeared to be about 10 only based off of her size. She was rather small, her clothes were dirty, she had no shoes on, and her hair was a brilliant cyan color. Strangely enough, cat ears that matched that color propped up on top of her head, while a tail also matching the color came from her backside.

The small girl continued to run as she was chased by a pair of teenagers who were laughing at her while one held a small knife. “What’s the matter freak? We’re just trying to fix you.”

“I do not need y-your help, s-stay away from me humans,” she cried out, continuing to run, but her tiny legs were starting to ache, and she wasn’t sure how long it’d take for her to find a place to hide.

That night saw a man walking through the streets, on an evening stroll. when he heard the yelling he turned, he was a tan skinned man, with brown hair and matching eye's. he was fit, with the shape of a body builder. his name was Mike, and upon seeing the boys with the knife he started over. "Hey!" He called. his long legs easilly helping him get in front of the small girl and carefully stepping her behind him. "leave her Alone." he said in a tone which was more a growl then anything.

Oh no not another one! The girl prepared to take off in a different direction, but she was much too tired to do so now. She was about to beg for the man not to hurt her only to blink as he stood in front of her to protect her. Why? She watched as he scared away the teens and stared up at him in confusion. “I-I’m sorry I don’t have money.”

"why would you think i wanted Money?" Mike asked kneeling down to check to make sure they hadn't hurt her. Mike himself was a detective for the local police. So protecting people was his duty. a duty he took very serously.

“I-I don’t know, that’s what o-other humans want,” she answered, backing away when he knelt down. “They e-either ask for money, whatever it is, or they try and attack me, o-or they try to remove my ears.”

"where are your parents honey?" Mike asked. after her explanation. he'd already seen one knife today, if he ran into those teens again... well. He had his .45...

“Why do you care so much?” she questioned, finally starting to catch her breath. She probably would’ve been gone by now if her legs weren’t aching right now. “I don’t know where they are, probably on to the great beyond or somewhere not caring about me.”

"because my job is to keep people safe. Now where are your parents honey?" Mike asked. though he was already almost sure he knew the answer. her clothes and the fact she didn't have shoes was a big sign...
when she confirmed his thoughts, he nodded. "are you hungry honey? you dont look like you've eaten lately?"

“I’m incredibly hungry,” she answered. “Do you have food? I won’t take more than I need I promise. And you don’t have to worry about it being nice, I’ll eat anything.”
