Default Odin Sphere

Did anyone else buy it besides me!?!

Sorry I was having issues because nobody appreciates sprite based graphics anymore.

Also if you were thinking about buying it I'd strongly recommend buying it now because I guarantee it'll probably become a rare game. Sort of like how Valkyrie Profile did. I bought it off ebay for like 90 bucks which was pretty good considering most of the auctions were for like 200. Then they remade it but meh. I like the originals.

I think Odin Sphere is going to be a tough find in a month or so, simply because it's Atlus. Shin Megami Tensei games and Magna Carta: Tears of Blood were all rare finds less than a month after their releases in North America, because Atlus doesn't put that many copies out there. You won't find them on the shelves of Best Buy, that's for certain.

I bought Odin Sphere, but I haven't had time to play it much. So far, I'm loving it. The voice acting that I've heard is for the most part amazing.

I like having originals too. I have Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth but it's not enough for me, so my friend is going to sell me her copy of it...for around $100. After all, she could put it on ebay for $200+ right? It's nice of her to let me buy it. Though Lenneth has some redone parts - like the cutscenes - and some add ons, it is typically the same game. It's not like what they plan to do with the first two Star Ocean games, and completely remake them. D: I'll give VP: L that much credit.

I own Star Ocean 2, and truthfully, as much as I love it, a decent remake will be a vast improvement.

In what ways?

The one thing I can't figure out is why they're remaking the second one, but they're remaking the first to look like the second...it's confusing. If the second one needs redone, why do the first to look like that one? I'm curious, that's all. I'm not going to prejudge it harshly. I'm looking forward to it, though admittedly I have my reservations.

The game was, like most Tri-Ace games, innovative and fun but also badly designed in several ways. To name just one, character balance: one character could defeat the last boss by themselves, while other characters were all but literally useless. It could also use a lot of graphical sharpening, a (much) better translation, and some expanded backstory on the villains to make it more possible to care about them.

Oh, and some decent dubbing would be a vast improvement, though that's hardly the Japanese company's fault. ;p

More to the point beyond that, it's nice to release old games, I suppose, but it often strikes me as rather lazy when there's a rerelease of an old game that's identical save for a few minor changes, especially when the game could really stand for a facelift. The Breath of Fire III release for PSP, for instance. That game BADLY needed more than a couple of minigames and cosmetic adjustments. But then, they wouldn't even do anything about the game-breaking glitches in the BoF1 and BoF2 remakes for the GBA, so I suppose it's only to be expected.

I was about to say...lazy translation could happen again, remake or not. :P

Uh, I do see your point though. However, they're just going to remake the first Star Ocean like the second one...that's what gets me.

My problem is what my friend pointed out - that many remakes are not done by the same people that did the original, so the vision is different. At the same time, I can see how that might improve things.

I'm not sure yet. ^^;

I was just kind of sad because I always wanted to play the original Star Ocean in English, and that won't happen. It's not because I'm stuck on originals, or think older is better (I fully admit I enjoy Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, which a lot of people seem to hate) but it's always in the back of my mind, "What was the original like?"

I was always hoping they'd release the first SO game to GBA, kind of like how Namco released Tales of Phantasia.

Anyhow, I'll see what happens with the games. I'm looking forward to the games - I need more PSP RPGs, so I'll gladly import them out of impatience. I just hope they at least have the same vision the original games did, or it honestly isn't the same game. I want to feel like it's the same game. Hopefully, music is at least by Motoi Sakuraba... XD

Well, uh, if you really want to play Star Ocean 1 in English... such is... possible, let us say. If you look.

On-topic, I thought the Odin Sphere trailer looked neat. Not sure if it's really my kind of game, but I may pick it up if I see it cheap... or more to the point, if my girlfriend does. Lest you doubt her mad bargain-hunting skills, she got me Disgaea for $10. ;p

Oh yeah, I have Star Ocean in English...now that I know it won't be coming on a system unless it's remade. ;P

I bought it!

I love it for so many reasons...It's a new platformer, it borrows from Norse (and to a smaller degree, Celtic) mythology, the designers included a cute race that DOESN'T get on my nerves, and most of all, the storyline is great.
